Westgate Hotel

The staff were very helpful and cheerful. Breakfast was nice and the cooked breakfast was really very good and good value. The room was spacious, very clean and the bed was comfortable. It was easy to park, but the train station is close by. It is only a short walk into town. I will definitely stay again as it is good value and perfect for a few days away.

The only comments I would make is that I think the bathroom could be cold in the winter as there didn't seem to be any heating. There was heating in the bedroom. The website I booked through said that you had to vacate the room at 11am, but I was asked to leave at 10.30am - it wasn't a problem, but it would have been nice to know the correct time.

It's a basic hotel but it was clean and generally comfortable. Good location for walking into the town centre or along the river. Staff are responsive and helpful, both prior to and during the visit. E.g. as there is no lift, they were able to allocate my elderly parents a room on the first floor (as there are no rooms on the ground floor this was the lowest floor available) and helped them up with luggage. There are currently roadworks so no on site parking available but they have arranged parking just across the road (about 1min from the hotel) so there is minimal inconvenience. Breakfast is basic but sufficient. A cooked breakfast is available at a reasonable additional cost.

The road outside is very noisy. As there is no air conditioning, we had to open the windows and endure the noise as the weather was very hot when we stayed.

Clean, convenient and comfortable accommodation. Excellent location for the railway station and walkable to all sites in the city centre that we wished to visit. The inclusion of continental breakfast was very welcome and made it good value for money.

I'd have liked a box of tissues and a hairdryer in the room given that we were in the Annexe which is separate from the main hotel. A notice on the door to warn guests to be considerate to others - our next door room neighbours were very noisy at 2.30am and the walls were thin!

Great location to walk into the city centre and a very short walk to the train station. When we arrived at the hotel there were no parking spaces available, but the host came out to us and informed us that a member of staff would move their car to make room for us to park, which was great! The staff at the hotel were all very friendly. Bed was comfy and had a great night sleep!

It isn’t a ‘luxury’ hotel and could do with some updating, but it had everything we needed for our overnight stay. The downstairs did have a musty smell, but the rooms didn’t. Our room was on the second floor, which was fine for us, but the stairs are very narrow and steep, so bare this in mind if you struggle with the stairs!

The owners were helpful and friendly. The location great for an overnight stay for Oxford. 10 minutes walk down the road. Parking was adequate to the side of the building visible from main road. Clean spotless twin room no. 3. Looks like had a refurb recently as photos are outdated compared to the real thing. Lovely furniture. Bed was comfortable. Bedside lamps were touch base to switch on/off. Adequate plug points and one either side of the beds. WiFi very good. If you wanted a hairdryer they could give one or advised where there was one if needed.

Creaky floorboards in the bathroom. Dirty mirror on the wardrobe. Hand print on the window. Kettle leaked when you poured the hot water. 2 flat pillows that look nothing like in the photos. I had a bad night sleep as they gave me a neck pain. Rooms are not double glazed which when next to a main road you have road noise.

For any single traveler to Oxford, this is a wonderful place to stay. The train station is 2 blocks away, the bus station 4 blocks. It is on a quiet block, so no loud music and people wandering around at night. Yes, the trains come by and the building shakes a little (this was more amusing than anything!), but I didn't hear any all night (Friday night). There is a nice local pub across the street. The owners of this inn are long time residents and really care about their property. This is a great value in Oxford. So close to everything, but a few steps away.

I was on the 2nd floor and the staircases are PRETTY NARROW! But, that is what you get with old buildings. So if a traveler has mobility issues, you might not like this place. But, contact the owners and see if they have a ground floor room. I don't know if they do.

Absolutely wonderful hotel and staff. Cannot recommend this hotel enough! Family-owned for over 30yrs, cosy and neat and comfortable, very clean, excellent breakfast included. 10mins walk into Oxford and all the sights. I was initially concerned it was going to be too noisy being near the train station but it was fine as the windows are double-glazed. There is also a large shopping centre 10mins walk away and multiple eating options around. Some nice scenic walks nearby too. The position is ideal for trains to and from London or the bus direct from Heathrow. Also only 40mins by bus to Blenheim Palace.

Nothing! Would just recommend a hook on the back of the bathroom door for an extra towel/clothes for ease. There is a towel rail already for one towel though. We had a wonderful stay.

Due to the chef not being on duty, only a continental breakfast was offered although we were advised about this when we checked in. What was offered at breakfast was more than adequate and presented by friendly staff.

No complaints or relevant comments as we only booked for one night as we were in town for a concert. Although the property looked tired and run down, there were notices posted saying renovation was in progress. It also boasted the only free parking in Oxford city centre!

I was really impressed especially considering it is a 2 star hotel. It is spacious, clean, functional. It felt peaceful too. Housekeeping were really helpful and friendly. The lady at reception was professional in her dealing with me.

I didn't like having to leave my room to share the shower and toilet but I guess you pay for what you get. For breakfast the older gentleman serving is nice but forgetful. He needs to write people's orders down and not rely on memory. My son and I didn't get exactly what we asked for. He also offered a top up of orange juice and he then forgot about it. I know it is busy but a notepad and pen would help.

We have got a room in the annex-building in a quiet street around the corner - which was a perfect choice. The staff is super friendly, real hosts. No fussy innessecary things like a paintings on the walls etc. - just everything you need. Warm breakfast service. A big comfortable shower. The location ist perfect for people traveling by train.
