A luxurious and excellently decorated hotel. Our double room was wonderful, very comfortable and top spec. We saw older reviews note how hot the rooms are and how noisy. Our experience was the opposite as our room was at the back and very quiet. Owners have clearly listened to their guests as a large ceiling fan was installed. The hotel is on a main road so cannot help but be noisy.at times, but we found at night (on the way back from a lovely local pub!) the traffic was quiet for a main road into the city centre. The hotel was in an excellent location to explore the city. Parking in the city centre is very limited. We parked our car in the hotel's large carpark foer our entire stay and used the convenient and plentiful local buses. A bus stop was directly outside the hotel with a 15 minute journey into the city centre or a 40 minute walk if preferred. The Summertown area of Oxford that the hotel is situated in also has a lot of shops and restaurants to offer, recommended by the hotel staff. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and welcoming. The hotel manager/owners could not have been more helpful with guiding us on the local area, where to eat, areas of interest and how to get there. The buffet style breakfast included in the room price was a good selection and delicious and served in the very pretty conservatory. The hotel team ensured coffee and tea and food was plentiful. We had booked some walking tours of the city and colleges which were excellent, but by chance had booked our break during Oxford's 'Open Doors' weekend (selected colleges and buildings were open to the public with free entry). Fascinating and highly recommended! Oxford is a beautiful city which we will be revisiting again very soon. When we do we will definitely book our stay at The Galaxie.

Could not find any fault.

Inside of hotel - lovely. Clean, smelled gorgeous. Decor was lovely. Rooms we had spacious and well decorated - ea individual. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Everything was spotless. Breakfast was delicious - one of the best cooked breakfasts I have had in a long time.

I think a bar or somewhere to sit of an evening would have been a great addition. Entrance to the car park rather narrow if you have a wide car!

Overall had a great stay. Staff were excellent and really helpul. Free car parking was an absolute bonus, particularly in the area. Breakfast was excellent! It was a buffet, but there was never too much cooked food out, meaning that everything was always freshly cooked and hot. Pastries again were a bonus and very tasty. The best thing about the hotel was its location in Summertown, close to excellent shops, coffee shops (recommend Gails) and restaurants. Always great to get out and walk along. Great base to explore Oxford as well.

Rooms could do with a refurb, but nothing to complain about.

Room was comfortable, the beds a little soft for my liking, but decent enough. We were right at the top of the hotel which was actually good as the weather was very warm and we could leave the windows open safely. It was clean, tidy and spacious enough for our needs. The breakfast was very good, and the coffee in there better than in the room! Staff were friendly. The hotel is perfect for accessing Oxford itself as the bus stop into town is right outside the hotel and its a 10 minute bus trip, and you just have to get off at Summertown Shops on the way back.

I had requested oat milk and decaf coffee/tea for the room, but these were not provided on arrival, I had to ask the Night Porter for them who said he would look around to find some! Needed drinking glasses in the room (we asked for them in the end) as there were only cups to drink from.

The morning staff in the kitchen were very friendly, especially Charlie. Charlie was very efficient and knew what you wanted in the morning, he would engage in conversation, etc...The cook was also very friendly and always looking to see if there was anything that he could make or get for you. My room was clean upon arrival; however, the daily housekeeping was not good. I oftentimes had to ask for soap, bath towels, and a restock on tea, cream, and sugar. This happened on several occasions, not just once. There were often kids of the housekeeping staff playing inside my room and sometimes the dusty clothes that they used were left inside my room. It was not good. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was good. Charlie also went above and beyond when I asked if he could help me out with a laundry situation. He not only made sure that my laundry got to the hotel before my departure, but he went and got it himself. Thank You, Charlie, I appreciated that very much!! Other staff at the hotel such as the receptionists, and others were all very personable, friendly, and accommodating.

The only thing that could have been better was the housekeeping. I feel that they did not pay attention to details. Specifically, I left three notes for them asking for soap, clean towel, and tea/cream and it was not addressed, until one morning I ran into some of the staff and I specifically asked her for the items, which she then gave to me.

Service is very friendly. The staff was very helpful. Convenient public transport, and hotel located within walking distance from the city centre. For me, 2 km is a walking distance. A number of shops and restaurants nearby.

The breakfast menu is a bit limited. Typical English breakfasts (Bacon, beans, sausages, etc.), yoghurt, and cereals. Not perfect, but good enough :-). In the cheapest room, not enough space to unpack the suitcase if you have to stay longer than 3-4 days and you need to take some more official dress (suits etc.), especially in the wintertime.

Location is perfect, just 5 minutes drive on the local bus from the center. Room was quiet as it faced the backyard. Tiny, but ok for a sole traveler. Nice bathroom, comfortable bed. Breakfast was good.

Street-facing rooms could be very noisy as there is no AC in the rooms, you need to keep your windows open for ventilation. Shower did not have any place for a shampoo or soap, had to keep them on the floor or on the window shelf. Basically no wardrobe to hang your clothes (just a narrow opening to hang 2-3 hangers). Constant issues with wi-fi, had to ask specifically, only after that got a solution from the staff. In general, zero interest from the reception and staff in general to help you around in the unknown hotel and the city. If you ask, they answer. If you don’t know what to ask, it’s your problem.

The Galaxie has a great atmosphere. It is a boutique hotel with charming decor—a model train in the dining room!—sweets cabinet!—cute garden—coffee and crepe van in the front—pretty framed art and antiques in a tasteful fresh way…. All of it came together to make this a memorable hotel. The staff were helpful when I had a small scheduling snafu, and were friendly and informative. Breakfast was surprisingly expansive with hot and cold options. The room was comfortable and the shower was nice. Also, there’s a bus stop right next to the Galaxie and you can be in central Oxford in 2-3 minutes if you don’t have time to walk.

I loved it and have no critiques.

Every staff member we interacted was friendly and accommodating - to the point that we thought they were all owners of the property! It's a unique renovation of 2 Victorian Houses. Breakfast was terrific and the place was spotless. We specifically wanted to be in Summertown so the location was ideal. The bus to the City Center is literally out the front door and takes 10 minutes to get to central Oxford. It's very small so don't go expecting a 4-Star luxury hotel, it's more of an elevated B&B or guest house experience at a far more reasonable price than you would pay in the city center. A true home away from home, we will definitely be back.

The lift was broken, but the staff was more than willing to help with our luggage.

This was a surprise find. An lovely, unexpected hotel with internal design that certainly caught our attention. It was very well presented and with many modern features. The staff were all very friendly and informative and accommodating to our dual booking. Our room was on the 3rd level and it was challenging getting our bags to our room (probably my fitness the issue!!), but the staff were happy to assist if we wanted them to. All the fittings in the room were modern and the shower/bathroom a generous size. The hotel was in walking distance (15 mins) to the Victoria Arms pub in Marsden. We will certainly stay here again when next in Oxford.

Nothing.
