Elephant Hotel

The room (dog friendly) was spacious and cozy on arrival. big comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. room accommodated for my dogs so had 2 comfy beds with bowls and treats. access to the garden from the room also with tea and coffee facilities. restaurant with beautiful food and plenty of options. close to train station (less than 5 minutes walk) sheets changed after one night.

ripped net curtains. wifi kept disconnecting and network is poor. limited tv channels. 1 member of staff on arrival and checking out was far from the standard of customer service I expected. short, blunt and quite rude. rest of the staff were open and friendly.

I found the reception on arrival not very happy I was greeted with we are closed to 12 we have had a wedding all day yesterday I was not given the chance to say can I drop my bag off as I am staying I’m not a lunch customer I needed to drop my bag off as I was going to a party The lady did let me leave it but she also said I could pay. It not have a key Strange there closed but open to take my money Apart from that every thing was good

A dead fly on the windowsill in our bedroom, windowsill in the main bar had a dead fly on it and it looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned for a while because there was lots of dust on it. Was told that if you hadn’t booked your room direct with the hotel then a full English was £17.50 pp although there website says £15.00 pp Lighting in the bathroom was very dull, could have done with a extra light in it.

Everything we needed for a comfortable overnight stay was provided. The location in the centre of town was convenient. We enjoyed having access to a town trail walk right from the door. Restaurants in town are very close by.

Although the town location had clear benefits, our room was right next to a busy roundabout so it was not particularly peaceful. Luckily the traffic was light during the night and as we are early risers, it was not a problem in the morning. It may be more of an issue for some.

interesting interior design. I was taken back to Singapore in our room with beautiful antique furniture and wall art. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to welcome our dog too. There was a dog bed and treats in the room for us too. Excellent range of teas and coffees in the room and the bed was huge and comfortable. We ate in the bar for dinner which was lovely.

Some areas looked a bit tired and needed a face lift such as fixings in the bathroom. The room was a bit pricey without breakfast included. The hotel is close to a very busy road in Pangbourne - we knew this before booking but worth noting that we could hear traffic from our room. We expected this so it didn’t impact too much on our stay.

The location was very good, we regularly took the train to Goring for meals and shopping. The hotel is a two minute walk to the station and a 4 minute train ride The staff were great, very accommodating as we had a small dog. The room backed onto the garden which was useful when you have a dog. We asked for a quiet room and it was very quiet. The steak meal we had the first evening was superb as was the beautiful afternoon tea (picture added)

I think it probably needs a refurb, some parts look quite tired on first glance as we arrived. However it was soon forgotten as we settled in.

Food was exceptional. staff were great and very welcoming - especially the young lady on reception who had to deal with a town wide power cut that threw the kitchen and bar out of kilter. She did admirably. Room was great and bath much appreciated after a long days walk

Unfortunately we had a room right over the main bar area and there is outside seating that was occupied by very noisy people until 2.00am so no sleep possible. Could not hear anyone inside so would suggest the Hotel moves guests/drinkers inside after, say 11.00pm to allow guests with front facing rooms the option of sleep.

Great stay over the Christmas holidays to meet up with family and friends who live in Reading/Pangbourne/Tilehurst area. Very friendly staff and we enjpyed a really good meal in the restaurant on our first night. It was lovely to have a change of scenery after all this Covidness. A very happy famil stay - thank you

On the first night the bar closed at 10.30.

The hotel is quirky, and the food and ambience are fantastic . Will be back. The coffee and tea facilities in the room are 5 *.

Just need a bit of touching up paint wise , but nothing that distracts from the amazing hotel this is.

Made a quick trip with my dog, we paid for a bigger room (my dog is quite big) they gave us a room with direct garden access, the room was super comfy, massive bed, dog bed, treats for both of us. We went to the bar and ordered dinner to eat out at the terrace, services was amazing, everything was so chill and perfect. So closed from the station, pubs, restaurants, bus stop.

Honestly everything was perfect, can’t wait to go back one day.
