The Abbey House Hotel

The room was comfortable and the folks at Abbey House made a special effort to accommodate my need for an American style of bed making. The wi fi connection was nice and strong and able to support some demanding tasks that I needed to have done.

My room (Room 16) was way up at the top and that made it uncomfortably warm during the heat wave that the UK has experienced this year. However, the hotel did supply me with a fan that made things a bit easier. I found it hard to fill the electric kettle at the tap in the bathroom. The floor of the shower is a bit too slippery. I was worried at times, that I might fall but, fortunately, I didn't fall. I think it would be a good idea to insert some floor tapes that would prevent slipping.

Excellent price. Small but comfortable single room.Very clean with en suite toilet & shower room.& coffee and tea in room. Staff polite friendly and knowledgeable about neighbourhood.. Bus number 33 on Tilehurst Rd just a few metres from hotel took me to Reading Town Centre and Rail Station in ten minutes.

My room was on the top floor. 33 stairs. I did not mind as it was good exercise. However if you are not fit, or you are disabled it could be a problem.There is an excellent large park for walking and relaxing and many high street small shops and cafes nearby. Generally in terms of quality of staff and service this is the best hotel I have stayed in in recent years.

Nice location, on a quiet street but close to a very nice area with restaurants and pubs, a very nice park and 20-25 minutes walk to the city centre. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Clean rooms but no cleaning service during our stay, this wasn't a problem because we were informed on this

In fact it doesn't matter what could be better because the staff was so ind and friendly and this was the most important. We really felt like in a visit to a loved relative

I really love the staff, they were extremely kind and very helpful. Right from the first day, they were really patient with me even though I came late. The person who was on the evening shift had stayed beyond shift waiting for me, I thought it was really kind and selfless. The room was really cozy and tidy. I really loved it.

Cheap and cheerful for a one night stay was what we’re looking for, just a bed for the night. When we arrived we were greeted and treated like we were the only people of any importance. Although not the owner, the gentleman who booked us in was amazing, he took us to our room and explained everything we needed to know. Having stayed at many cheap places, this was quickly discovered to be a hidden gem and I am only leaving a review because we were both overwhelmed by the hospitality we were given. I hope they get to read this as although I gave my thanks personally, it’s only fair I make them public.

Nice staff, very clean with very comfortable beds. Good location.

Tv had no signal so couldn't use and flush on toilet kept running. However, due to short stay we did not report these issues so can't say they wouldn't have been dealt with if we had.

We were not sure how Abbey House Hotel would be as some of the web site made us wonder! Eg £50 cash deposit on arrival to be returned when state of room checked??? However that was not mentioned again at any further stage, and not asked for. On arrival we were told that the room we had booked, ‘comfort’ was aimed at the construction contractor trade in an annex and we would have another room in the main house, quieter! It was very comfortable all you need for a nights stop and we would book again. Off street parking available

The proprietor was very helpful and offered to fill our water bottles without even mentioning it. As we were cycling the King Alfred Way, this was a great place to stop overnight, not far from the route Nice and clean and comfortable beds.

The staff was super friendly and helpful; the interior is a bit outdated, but everything was nice and clean.

It’s about 30 minutes by foot to get to the town centre, but shops and restaurants were still good to reach.

Comfy beds super hosts and location.

Room temp was cool downstairs for my elderly mum. Tea and milk needed replenishing which hosts did when we asked.
