Holiday Inn Reading West, an IHG Hotel

The accommodation seemed newly renovated. It was modern and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They were clear on what we needed to do and we’re available if we had any questions or requests. Staff went above and beyond to meet guests needs such as getting the alcohol one guest requested or providing snacks for when people arrived late at night and the kitchen was closed.

The staff that were there were amazing but they seemed short staffed and one member of staff was often split between the food, bar and covering reception. They did this very well but you did feel sorry for the staff having to rush around and try to please everyone.

Standard Double room was spacious with a double bed and a comfortable two seater sofa (can be converted to single bed). Room had air-conditioning. It had all the facilities including a safe, iron machine, iron table, bath robes, proper wardrobe. There is no fridge in the room, but if you request reception to keep any refrigerated medicine in their fridge, they will do it. Breakfast was very good and well balanced. Kitchen staff can make some customised breakfast upon request. Hotel has a bar and a very comfortable Lounge seating area. There is also a Gym. All the staff were very kind and very helpful. Outdoor area was very nice. Very good space for car parking. There is a fuel station very nearby to the hotel.

Hotel has ground floor and first floor levels. There is no lift to go up the first floor. You may need to walk a little longer if your room is located far away from the hotel entrance. So, put in a request if you are booking for the elderly or family with a baby.

I cannot express how amazing this hotel was The staff was absolutely amazing. Lisa was a complete superstar. There were a lot staying for the Flackstock festival. She made sure the bar was open when we all Got back. She provided snacks and sandwiches. Nothing & I mean nothing was too much trouble for her. I am coeliac and I cannot express how amazed I was at the knowledge of the staff and the range of options to cater for this disease. Even a gluten free toaster was brought out in the morning! We will definitely be staying here next year and cannot thank Lisa and the team enough for making our stay so enjoyable. Thank you.

Nothing. It was perfect.

Having stayed at Holiday Inns before, we knew what to expect, and this one was as good as the others - we were particularly pleased that we could park our car for free! The breakfast was excellent and the hotel was smart with attentive staff and a welcoming atmosphere.

My only complaint (as with all Holiday Inns) is the pillows - they don't seem particularly new and of a good standard. This is a shame as it lets down the overall good quality of the Inns. It's a small, but fairly important, detail and very simple to get right. Please review the standard of your pillows, Holiday Inn.

The bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean with coffee-making facilities. The staff were friendly and professional, but Nessy was the best receptionist/bar lady. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She was a smiling, friendly face as soon as you walked through the door. I can honestly say that she is a credit to IHG. The food was good, and there was a good variety. They have Alpro yoghurt for those who cannot have dairy or are Vegan, and the alternative milk is oat (although a supply of coconut would be great, too, for future reference).

The food needs netting to cover it as there were flies, unavoidable at this time of year, but steps could be taken to avoid them sitting on the food. I couldn't eat things I would typically have had, like pastries or cereal. The juice was not very nice, but that is just our taste (we prefer apple juice that tastes like apple juice).

Room was clean and comfortable. By far and away the best part of the hotel was the staff and service. "Nissy" was on the front desk and was the perfect host. She was attentive, polite and friendly. We were staying in the area for a wedding and she made sure we had taxis booked and ready, and made sure to clarify the price with the driver beforehand. Everything else we needed was provided and it was clear Nissy would go above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. I sincerely hope the hotel understands her value to the company.

Everything was good. There wasn't anything specific to say negatively. If pushed, the building isn't the newest. It seems in good shape and well maintained, but you can tell it's been there a while.

Location. While I’m sure this poses no issue if you are a driver. I arrived at the nearest train station and walked the 10-15 mins to reach the hotel. It’s not a far walk by any means but I arrived on a dark morning in winter with horizontal rain and there is no pavement next to a busy road - it was terrifying. My friend was also staying but arrived (via train too) the night before and had the same experience - genuinely terrifying. Hotel was great though! Wouldn’t think twice about booking again if I needed to be in the area and was driving there.

the property was clean and tidy and well laid out. there was plenty of parking and the inside felt spacious. this hotel is dog friendly which was great for us and the room was a good size for three adults and three dogs. there was a gym on site and a nice secure courtyard where you could take the dogs. the staff were very welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do enough to help you. the room was well equipped with iron and board, kettle and cups and tv. they even supply toiletries. the breakfast was a good spread and excellent value for money

Staff were excellent! Especially in the restaurant area. Couldn't do enough for you. Very reasonable rates good breakfast with lots of choice. Close to a Shell filling station/shop. Aldermaston station within walking distance and with great links for London Paddington. Nice gardens and plenty parking.

Parts of hotel looking tired - and outside of windows and woodwork will need replacing/attention at some point. Will cost a fortune ... I do feel sorry for hotels like this - very large with a massive upkeep (it's been a lovely building in its prime) and I'm guessing difficult times/no income throughout pandemic etc - although the upper bedrooms and hallways are very nice and bright and show signs of being updated in recent years. Our room was very nice with everything needed - I think like all service areas - they are short of staff but we didn't mind asking for fresh towels when needed. Be aware there is no lift in this hotel - so ask for a ground floor room if needed.

The room was very spacious and the shower room looked newly refurbished. I did have a family member saying in an accessible room, and their bathroom could have done with a facelift but access was great.

Food was incredibly expensive. I didn't book breakfast for that reason. It's also a shame there weren't any fridges in the room in case people wanted to bring their own milk (because who enjoys UHT) or keep their water cool. I did have an unfortunate checkout. Took about 30 minutes to complete.
