Overall this was a really pleasant stay, the staff were incredibly professional and helpful during the stay. The room I stayed in was HUGE and spacious, loads of natural light, comfortable 4 poster bed and refreshments, including water and tea/coffee/biscuits. The bathroom was clean and also sizeable, with a great bathtub/shower. In the morning I had the best hotel breakfast (full English) I've had in a very long time.

Check-in was a bit of a let down as my name was spelt incorrectly on the key envelope and I wasn't verified straight away. The room was clean but had about 6 flies zooming around and took an hour to get out of the room. The room also overlooked the main road which was noisy; you can close the windows to minimise this but one to think about during the summer when undoubtably the room will get hot without ventilation. Also worth noting that this is a hotel/bar, the music of which permeated quite well through the walls, so if you are an early sleeper, this may not be for you.

Amazing place with a lot of potential. Great location I in centre of Reading with easy access to all cultural attractions that are available. Amazing interesting designs of interior that ils well balanced mixture of popart. Also a lo of floral decor that gives place nice satle feling of comfort. Pastel colours makes it well corresponding with feminine sensuality. Also has libery that is well located. With amazing people that are very friendly and helpful, creating great atmosphere as a team. I had one lunch and it was tasty

Well it could be bit better organized although on have to remember that this every hotel has its weaknesses and great aspects. They could look into more versatile entertainment than just garage. Perhaps something encouraging book readers and international HipHop DJ's from Poland, or Europe perhaps. Maybe life music like Blues or Spanish Guitar.

Exemplifies what I'd expect of a boutique hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very thoughtfully designed, chique entrance/bar/areas. Lots of nice touches and using high quality materials throughout. After reading previous reviews I came with a low expectation of the bedroom as these have not been refitted yet, but loved the room we were given, front facing, large, lots of air and light, big 4 poster bed (they gave an upgrade) and tastefully decorated. Hotel is 9 minutes walk from Reading railway station, but separated from the town center being on the other side of the internal ring road.

I'd recommend adding sockets to the bedroom. I only saw 2 with one for the kettle.

The bar and downstairs area restaurant were lovely so we’ll thought out and welcoming and comfortable lived the library room

The bedrooms were tired and basic but I know they are upgrading , breakfast took forever, only one untrained server , she did. Know how to work the iPad and was slow in serving They only seem to be able to do a table at a time and my breakfast was stone cold on the plate , they were great in refunding but really for £250 as opposed to normal rates as it was a night Reading festival prices so expect it to be perfect

Everything! The staff, in particular Emma were outstanding, so helpful and friendly. I had a shower issue which was dealt with promptly. The issue hadn't actually been solved but Emma had sorted me another room within 2 mins. Emma upgraded my room too, it was wonderful, with a shower that was so powerful I didn't want to get out! Both rooms were very comfortable and spacious, all new furniture. No noise from the main road below. I thoroughly enjoyed my few days stay here and will be staying here in future when visiting my son. The bar is currently undergoing refurbishment but the work does not get in the way. I can't wait to see what it's like when it's finished.

N/A. Loved it all.

The staff were brilliant - all very nice and extremely helpful. I had a very late check-in due to a cancelled flight and they were there for me, making sure I had everything I needed. They also helped me with my luggage - invaluable in a hotel that not only has no lifts but some rooms that are accessed by lots and lots of stairs!

As mentioned, this hotel has no lifts at all and the stairs are old and awkward. Some rooms are accessed by climbing up two flights of stairs, and then a flight down as well! It's an old and quirky building. Unfortunately the bar and restuarant were closed for refurbishment during my stay and I was not advised of this until after I had made my booking.

It has character, the restaurant food was very good , the room a good size. Staff were friendly and professional

Not much , being an old building the plugs are in strange positions in the room. There was no air conditioning, but we didn’t really need it. Parking is in public car park , but again it’s only over the road and pretty convenient, As I was parking overnight and leaving for work before 8 am it was inexpensive. So no real gripes

Wonderful staff - very helpful with a great attitude. Breakfast was amazing! Locally sourced meat and good portion size. Breakfast was served in the library area which was beautiful and full of old history. The location was excellent - right in the center of Reading. Located in a beautiful old building with lots of history. Lovely big room with excellent facilities - bath and shower available. Thank for the fan as well - it was certainly needed on one of the hottest days of the year! I thought this was a lovely touch.

As it is an old building there are a few hiccups like the rooms are a little bit dated and have few plug sockets. A minor irritation was that I wanted to straighten my hair but the plug socket nearest to the dressing table was the other side of the wall near the TV meaning I had to move the room around a little to get the mirror near the plug socket. Not a big deal but maybe something to think about if remodeling the rooms any time soon.

Very understanding staff, location was across town centre from station (slight walk but well within my range) and ideal for where I happened to need to be. Good service at bar considering they were also serving a wedding party.

Room was a little smaller than expected and furnishings seemed a bit old. Slightly odd to have to track down someone with a laptop in the bar to check in & out rather than going to reception (although not a problem when you're aware of it).

Great Expectations is about a 10 minute walk from the main railway station. It has a a very impressive frontage and is interesting inside. We arrived early but were able to leave our bags so we could go into the city. The room was ready by the time we came back. It is a spacious room with en-suite. There is a large bar area which is 'Dickens themed' at the moment. It is well placed for The Oracle shopping centre and the many bars and restaurants in the city centre. The hotel has new owners (they had been there 2 weeks when we arrived) and they plan to revamp the entire bar area. Breakfast was good, maybe another member of staff on duty would have helped but that's all.

Not really anything not to like. It was ideal for our needs. A shower gel holder in the bathroom, rather than a bottle would be good. The access to the building is a steep flight of steps so it is not disabled or pushchair friendly but as it's under new ownership I guess this will change. The frontage is Victorian and listed so I don't know how you overcome that.
