Friendly owner, helpful staff and fabulous rooms! Only stayed one night for the Edinburgh Tattoo. We got a taxi into the centre £30 used the bus back.£2pp. If you’re using the bus it runs from Penicuik high street (bus 47) which takes approx 50 mins. Returning it only took 40 mins, 6 mins from hotel. The comfiest beds making for the best sleep, wonderful modernised bathroom. We ate in the hotel and it was great idea as we didn’t have to contend with Edinburgh centre trying to find somewhere, the food was exceptional. Breakfast was equally superb and covering all dietary requirements on the menu.

The welcome at reception, plenty of parking, relaxed atmosphere, the garden and welcoming bar. The room decor was very good as was the quality of the decor and it was of a good size; the bathroom was stylish and had a large walk in shower. Loved the Craigie tartan wallpaper.

The glass 'link' corridor in the hot weather was stifling as it had no ventilation and the radiator was on!! That could be difficult for some guests, it was that oppressive. The grey tartan carpet on the stairs and corridors to the rooms was looking a little tired, partly as the grey colour does readily show up the marks and dirt from shoes, especially in the bright sunshine!

This was our first stop on a Scottish holiday and it couldn't have been better. From the friendly welcome by the staff, to a lovely room and a wholesome dinner. The exterior has old world charm, but inside is fresh and clean. Our room overlooked the garden, had a comfortable bed and modern good sized ensuite. It was very quiet and had excellent wifi. Breakfast was freshly cooked. Plenty of free parking available at the front door. Located in a small charming village just outside Edinburgh, it was ideal for accessing local attractions.

Nothing. We couldn't fault the place.

The location was ideal, and the room was spacious and very modern, despite being in an old historic building. Evening meal was excellent (wine was a bit pricy though). Staff were good and attentive. Settings and surrounding of the hotel were excellent

Check in was difficult, no staff around, took ages for someone to come and check me in, and he couldnt find my reservation. Also I had an early start (6.30am), but breakfast was not served until 7am, so although having paid for breakfast in the price of the hotel, I could not take advantage of it.

Spacious, staff friendly, great bathroom. Good breakfast cooked to order. Good location for exploring south of Edinburgh and catching £2 bus into the city. Would definitely stay here again.

Would have liked more cereal options for breakfast. On one occasion we arrived back around midnight. The door was locked (quite reasonably) but it took several minutes before anyone answered the door bell. It would have been good to mention this process at check-in which was in itself a rather long process.

The building itself was very well looked after, the rooms are clean with all of the expected amenities. Breakfast was included with our stay and was very tasty, the staff were accommodating to any of our requests. The location is about 30 minutes - 1 hour away from the main city however there is a direct bus.

The hotel does have a function room, be aware that the rooms are above the function room and an event may go on until late. We didn’t have an issue but I’m sure that if we did the staff would have understood.

A last minute booking for me after working in Edinburgh all day and not really wanting the drive down south. An inspired booking. It turned a bad day into a great evening / night. On approach, easy to find with plenty of parking. The welcome at reception was really friendly and made you feel quite at home. My room was very comfortable, modern but “traditional”, and had everything you needed. The bar fantastic with great beers and not “cooking lager”. Very personable bar staff and management. My evening meal was exactly what I wanted with a great menu. I was on my own at the time but there was choice on the menu that would have kept all my family happy. A great nights sleep, great web speed for work in the morning prior to a huge breakfast and great coffee. Cake also available!! All in all. Spot on. Highly recommended and I will be going back.

Beautiful hotel and staff were so friendly and professional. We stayed in a deluxe room and it was absolutely beautiful with a view over the garden. Room was made up every day. Garden was lovely and snacks and drinks were served daily in the garden if you wished. We were visiting relatives, however, this hotel is ideal for commuting to Edinburgh. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Edinburgh/Midlothian area.

Our only gripe was my husband likes his beer in a straight glass and bar staff would only serve his choice of lager in a thick tankard glass. I know that this is keeping with the brand of the beer/lager, however, once in the glass, no-one would ever know if was in the wrongly branded glass. The customer should get their preference of glass type. I can't blame the bar staff as this is what they've been directed to do.

Unexpectedly pleasant! The room was nice and welcoming, a good size and very clean. High standard of bathroom etc and great complementary bits in the room. All you can eat breakfast was included and it was a very high quality with great flavours, not your usual fry up! Great vegan options and bonus cakes too, very pleasantly surprised! A perfect start to a day hiking in the local mountains/lochs at Pentland Hills Regional Park. I found 2 EV charging points closeby, 1 at the local Tesco which was free, but all 4 spaces were taken, and another at the local leisure centre which was very cheap to use.

Not much at all.

Absolutely fantastic hotel. Only stayed one night but will definitely be back. Large comfortable room with all amenities. Complementary bottle of water, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Bed was so comfortable, had an amazing nights sleep. We had breakfast included and had the Full Scottish Breakfast, absolutely delicious and way too much to finish it all. All the staff were olive and helpful. We had dinner in the bar which again was delicious.
