Location and price were excellent. Staff were so helpful. Prices for food and drink were excellent, just like all weatherspoons. The money spent on the carpark carried over to the next morning so did not have to pay for overnight parking. We visited Ruthin jail, a short walk down the hill, and really enjoyed this interactive visit. Overall a good base for exploring. Would definitely recommend to friends but stay in a room on the first floor rather than third.

The bed was too hard for myself and husband. I know it's personal preference but I usually like a firmer mattress. There must have been leaks previously as water stains were all over the wall. Funny smell in the bathroom, damp maybe. We stayed on the top floor so we knew there would be stairs, we just didn't realise how many. It kept us fit though!

The room is quite large with several furnishings (desk & chair, small coffee table & 2 chairs, 2-seater lounge) overlooking the square and a view further out. Being a Wetherspoon pub, the drinks costs were less than experienced on the rest of travels as were the meals, which were really good. No on-site parking, but paid parking just adjacent in Market St council car park, 7 pound for 9 hours, the unused balance during the night carrying over to the next day.

Satisfied with most aspects.

I have to say, a Wetherspoons pub would not be my first choice, but I was pleasantly surprised, however I was walking with a group of friends, so it ticked a lot of boxes. The price was very reasonable, it was a good situation for our walk, the room (top floor, single room) was clean and comfortable. The town itself was pretty, small and clean. (Rated the best place to live in Wales!) The food and beer was cheap, as they are. Whilst the food was not a Michelin star, it was good value for the money. The breakfast was excellent. The pub, whilst big, was not cavernous, as it had a number of spaces, that gave it a cosy feel. It was lovely old hotel with a great historical feel. Would I stay again, yes! Would my wife stay there - she would need persuading, but she wouldn't relate this chain of pubs as a hotel to have a short break. They do vary enormously but this must be one of the best 'Spoons' to stay and or eat.

Staff were never looked too happy or particularly friendly, but they were busy.

Stayed here when walking Offa's Dyke. Ruthin is off the path but accommodation on trail was difficult to find. Well exceeded my expectation staff were great, everything we needed, hot water, bath & shower, tea & coffee, dinner & breakfast available early to late, heated towel rail, quiet room, would stay here again. Great town with supplies. Would stay again.

This is a great stay for anyone walking Offa's Dyke path but it is off the trail. The only thing not to like is that there are not more of these stays on Long Distance Paths. Wetherspoons you may be missing an opportunity.

Good sized room. Large dining area coped well for guests and visitors. We were joining a large group, and the ability to shuffle tables, aided by staff, to accommodate the size really helped. Large public car park at rear of hotel always had spaces and was reasonably priced.

The key card, which is required to move upstairs as well as to your room, failed on a number of occasions for a number of our party. We were advised not to keep it close to mobiles, and after the first time, we followed that advice, but it still occurred. No lift meant two trips to the car to get luggage to our room on the 3rd floor but we managed.

Beautiful old historical building. Traditionally decorated, warm comfortable room. Staff we excellent as was the location. We were happy there was a carpark. Our room was huge with sofa and chairs and the view was delightful. Situated right in the middle of the town and very convenient for touring

Very little storage. We had a family room (just tge two of us) two bedrooms one very small area for hanging clothes no draw space and nothing at all in single room. It was okay for the two nights we stayed but if there were three/four people in there for more than a night don't think it would suit. On a personal level we found the bed particularly HARD and had not much sleep but as I say it might suit some.

The room was a great size (twin/room 104) and spotlessly clean. Nice array of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was also clean, although it had no bath tub which I was looking forward to! But on the whole I'd really recommend this hotel. You have the benefit of Wetherspoons below, great beers, low prices and great value food menu. I also liked the fact to check out, you just leave your key card on the front desk as you leave.

Just small points but you may find it useful that to check in, when nobody is around, there's a phone on the desk. Dial the indicated number, but then the same phone rings in front of you. It obviously rings somewhere else as someone did eventually pick up. So this process wasn't super quick, and seemed to take an age, although when the receptionist did arrive she was friendly and efficient. Also in my particular room there was a fuse board that constantly buzzed - this was room 104 and although a few beers got me to sleep, I wouldn't stay in that room again. But don't let that put you off, it's a great historic building with modern upgrades.

Ours was room 206, which was reached after many twists and turns. Although breakfast wasn't included in the price, we had free refills for coffee with an excellent machine with multiple selections to do so. Prices for ALL meals was the best we had seen in all our stops throughout England & Whales. We also got to check in early at 1:30. Location in the center of town was great, yet one could walk 5 minutes up to the "castle" and enjoy the grounds and atmosphere there.

All good!

Staff were lovely, very helpful and just generally very friendly. Food downstairs was ace and very affordable. We could bring drinks up to our room also and this was great. The bed was so comfortable. Great pressure in the shower. Fantastic location in a hidden gem of a town.

Two of the 3 windows in the room were permanently sealed and couldn't be opened. For the other one we can to out a cup under it to stop it sliding closed. Once we turned the heaters off and left the window open for a while the room was fine then.

Really nice room and clean - only problem we had was that the water was cold not hot in the bathroom and the bathroom sink emptied very slowly I think maybe breakfast should have been included with the price - however, my Partner had breakfast and said it was lovely. Staff were helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Well done Wetherspoons

Only the problem in the bathroom - otherwise perfect and a lovely location in a town steeped in history
