Holiday Inn Express Newport, an IHG Hotel

The room was clean and presentable, the aircon worked flawlessly, the shower room was small but adequate. The card keys were fine with no issues. Breakfast was fairly simple, but used good food and was nicely prepared, no faults. The only thing which was a little awkward was the lack of a milk jug for the tea, I had to use a small glass, not really a big problem, but a small milk jug for the table and some teaspoons in the restaurant would have been most convenient. This did not detract from our enjoyment of the stay though and we certainly would be happy to stay again, staff all very kind and friendly.

One thing that stood out was how clean the hotel is. Even the corners in corridors were clean! We were pleasantly surprised at the size of our room, the bed comfort and the facilities. Staff were professional and friendly. Breakfast was great - and fantastic to have it included. Unlike Premier Inn, who have increased their prices, standards have dropped and you have to pay for breakfast. We stop at the hotel regularly to use the EV charger and now we will be staying overnight often too. Great location - for motorway, to visit the National Trust property and Newport. Pub next door has equally high standards.

Smokers standing close to front doors, so smoke drifting into lounge area - and cigarette ends on ground outside (despite there being a bin for them).

Breakfast was very good, our room was clean and tidy, bed very comfortable. The walk in shower made all the difference due to hidden disabilities excellent. The staff were polite and helpful. Easy flat access from the car park and two lifts.

Our room had no comfortable chair to sit in, only one desk chair on wheels. Due to my health this caused me extra pain. Also not enough draws to put clothing in. In the dinning area, the air conditioner was on which blew cold air and it was difficult to find an area to eat our evening meal away from it.

Lovely large clean room. Very comfortable. We were on the top floor, which was very quiet. The staff were amazing, so friendly and they went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed to make your stay a good one. Breakfast was self service, plenty of it and a great selection. You could have a cooked evening meal if you wanted it and there was a bar and lounge area. There was also a pub next door if you wanted to walk somewhere else.

Nothing we didn't like. The air conditioning was a little noisy, but we didn't need it so switched it off.

Excellent value for money, bed was lovely and comfortable. They provide soap, shower gel and shampoo which is great if you've forgot it. In addition, you can request them to provide you with a face cloth, razor, toothpaste, toothbrush or female sanitary products. Shower was powerful and nice and hot. Tea and coffee provided provided and replenished daily.

Nothing was a issue, but there could be a few improvements. It'd be nice if there was a bottle/bottles of water provided in the room on arrival. I personally wake up during the night feeling quite thirsty, so it would've been nice to have a bottle of water on hand. The breakfast was lovely, but personally I found the bread rolls to be quite dry (didn't taste fresh). I think it'd be nice to have a couple of egg options, not just scrambled.

The staff were outstanding from the outset. Gareth greeted up cheerfully which was so different to some other hotels that we have experienced. Owen was exceptional. He worked tirelessly to ensure the guests were happy - always cheerful, helpful and professional. The Sunday morning was very busy but Owen stayed consistent and dealt with everything we encountered with professionalism. Even your room attendants were polite and meticulous.Your staff are a credit to your company.

Time went too fast!

Fantastic welcome- promptly seen to, greeted and breakfast info given by a really pleasant staff member. No query was too much to ask. Breakfast was hot and plentiful. The staff were smiley and welcoming. House keeping was on point. General hotel as a whole was clean, fragrant and visibly pleasant to the eye.

The sofa bed was really small and rather uncomfortable. Although the sofa bed was intended for the kids (11 and 9) they didn't fit. I knew the size of the room and what was Included, so I can't complain, however, just a caution for kids who are use to a little more space.

Lovely breakfast. Good choice of hot or cold food. Had a curry one evening which was really nice. Staff were all helpful. Great to have extra tea, coffee and milk available by reception to help yourself if you need more. Good sized room. Struggled a little with the air conditioner and heating to get the temperature right, though. WiFi worked instantly. Parked right outside the door every time we returned, no problem. We visited Fourteen Locks (very close by, lovely cafe); Monmouth, Tintern Abbey and Raglan Castle as well as Goytre Wharf, all worth a visit and not too far from the hotel. Have favoured a rival hotel chain for a long time but have been swayed to give Holiday Inns a fair chance again, by this experience.

Air conditioner a bit temperamental.

Immaculately clean and fresh. It has a good clear layout and the rooms were well laid out, good attention to what the guest may need for their stay with very comfortable beds. Staff were helpful especially on reception and night desk.

There were some issues with breakfast due to the number of guests staying. While it was understandable guests arriving for breakfast at much the same time causes problems with seating. However, running out of cooked breakfast items, not enough cutlery & crockery was unfortunate and meant I ended up with a cold breakfast by the time I finished chasing up missing items. After all you had the number of guests expected for breakfast. But I am sure this was just a blip in the usual run of things.

We booked two rooms for 5 nights. The breakfast was really nice with a good variety. Soya milk and dairy free butter was available when requested. The room was very clean. The bed was comfortable. There was a menu available for pizza and some snacks which was a must Christmas Day evening when shops were closed

There is no fridge in the room (we like semi skimmed nilk so brought our own mini fridge and milk). One of the pillows was lumpy. The lighting was not bright. Lighting on each side of room so a little dark in the middle.
