This hotel is simply a classic old inn with so much history and ambiance. The location is excellent and it lives up to its reputation. If you are expecting a modern room with all the updates, this is not for you. Our room did not even have a TV. Also, take note that there may be different levels in the room like a step up to the bathroom. Our room was on the third floor and stairs were steep and no elevator. All-in-all I would do this again. It was lovely.

I might not book room #6 at the top of the stairs since our door was right next to the stairway. A bit noisy as everyone came up and down right by our room.

I was here back in the summer of '22 for lunch and I was determined to check out the Inn as well. What a lovely place, the location is 99 out of 100 (missing a point for not being next to the river) The bar/dining room has a very authentic 19 century feeling to it. When visiting try to stay on a Friday like I did; live music with 60's and 70's (20 th century) songs. The wine bar caters for some nice wine/ food pairings; please do try. The room was a tad small, but then again I was there by myself so no complaints. Comfortable bed, ample heating (it was freezing outside) and super shower. Breakfast was adequate.

The only item that I can think of is a tea/coffeemaker in the room

Loved the room... (one small challenge -- (pun intended) -- I am 4' 11", so the mirrors were out of the question) .....loved the cleanliness, the comfort. Especially loved how beautiful the WHOLE Inn is, how thoughtfully and lovingly it is decorated and kept. Everyone was friendly and helpful: at the front desk, so gracious, great suggestions for museums. Delicious dinner on Friday night...breakfast minimal, but fine. (Good coffee!) We all loved our time with you. Thank you!

Nothing.

Located in the picturesque and historic town of Essex, CT. Surrounded by natural beauty and also had amazing ice cream near the inn. Rooms are historic, without TVs or fridges or microwaves and small but are extremely comfortable, tastefully designed and provide the 'inn' experience without compromising on essentials like a nice attached bathroom with wifi. Also ate at the tap room (children welcome too) where the beer and food was tasty, with ample portions and hospitable staff. Ample room for parking! Definitely recommend staying here for a day and a night on your way elsewhere.

Considering the smallish rooms and relatively small scale (no elevators) and USP of the property as being an inn, could have been a shade cheaper.

The room was very clean and the location was quiet. I came to enjoy the Sea Chanties and treat myself to a nice place to stay instead of driving an hour home afterwards. It was all wonderful! The bed was one of the most comfortable I've experienced in awhile and the shower was hot with lots of pressure.

Only thing I didn't like was something about the room was that it was overly perfumed. It bothered my allergies a little, but not so much that it ruined the experience or anything.

Great location and welcoming staff. Restaurant and supporting tap room, wine room and library were charming, and the food was great.

Bathroom was not well lit with only one working light in the shower. The bathroom sink drain was partially blocked and drained very slowly. Room temperature was tough to keep comfortable with one window without screens and the other not fully operable.

The location was perfectly situated in the town and we were able to walk to all the shops and restaurants. We had dinner at the Griswold Inn’s Wine Bar and the food was delicious and the service was great! After dinner, we stopped by the Inn’s Tap Room to listen to some live music which was a lot of fun! I would highly recommend staying at the Griswold Inn

Beautiful location. Large room with small living room and huge bathroom. The continental breakfast was good. Good coffee. The inn is beautiful, and the town is amazing.

Our room was not attached to the actual inn. Which i didn't really mind. I could hear my neighbors, and it was very hot in my room. But it wouldn't stop me from staying.

The Inn is very clean and very old. It is perfectly situated near the water, and there is hotel parking across the street.

I would not eat in the main dining room again, unless it is Thanksgiving or Christmas time. The Tavern has much better food. Do not expect much from the wine list.

The location was suburb. The lampposts are decorated for fall and there is a best scare crow contest beginning. Each house along the village road bears a historic plaque with name and date of occupancy. The Inn is filled with antiques such as rifles, model ships and portraits of the civil war era.

The Inn could have included a more substantial breakfast with the room rate.
