I liked the location. I wasn't sure if I was in the right place at first, but it's tucked within a nice neighborhood. The neighborhood is VERY walkable. I enjoyed walking around the neighborhood each day of my stay. The room was not as big as I thought it would be from the pictures, but it did suffice. the closet was very functional and sizeable. I stayed in a hostel in Hollywood, CA that was comparable in price, but it had a TV and a mini fridge. It would have been nice if both were in the room. Nice patio to sit on behind the building. The common area is nice. I just wish people would clean up after themselves, but that's no way the hostel's fault. With all the commotion going on, they should have both screens on closed caption so viewing can be enjoyable and understood. I saw them bring waffles in, but no waffles were served the next day... that was a real bummer. They try to replenish the dishware as quickly as possible. I wish bananas and/or apples could be an option as well and not just oranges. The donuts were hard, stale, not delicious and not even redeemable being warmed up. I just didn't like that people would leave their mess for staff to clean up and holding up space for others. The breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, milk, cereals, bread, donuts, boiled eggs (not daily though), oranges (not enough to last some days), condiments- sugar, honey, hot sauce, salt, pepper, butter, jams... oh and the waffles I didn't get to partake in. The restrooms were relatively clean... as clean as others left the space they used. Shelves inside the showers would be helpful. The elevator is small and slow. Outside of getting luggage to/from room, it was easier/quicker [for me] to take the stairs. The staff were all so nice and helpful, especially the guy that had been or had heard of Hollywood, FL. oan: I'm doing this review from the PC rather than my phone so no photos to add unfortunately.
Th beds. The limited breakfast... but I understood because it's a hostel. No TV nor mini fridge in the room I had that wasn't a shared room. Closed captioning not being on the TV.

We loved staying at the Getaway Hostel! I have a feeling this will be my go to location for Chicago stays from here on out. The private room we had was plenty big and the beds were nice and comfy. The breakfast and kitchen were nice amenities and don’t get me started on Location!! Loved the location here.
The ONLY thing I have feedback on is how hot the rooms were. Our room had a fan, but even with it on high it was stuffy and sweating level hot. We couldn’t open the window per signage asking not to, but for it being in the 50’s outside it felt extremely sticky and hot inside. It was close to probably 74-78 which is definitely not comfortable. The common areas felt great though!

The staff was very friendly and helped quickly whenever we asked about something. The beds are super comfortable. Enjoyed the breakfast offered (especially the blueberry muffins). The neighborhood is beautiful and there is plenty to see and do (the Zoo, food places, the beach), and also very safe and quiet.
In the second part of our stay we stayed in a different room. Pros: it was right next to the elevator. Cons: The light from the foyer "snuck" in through the bottom of the door, and we could hear the elevator ping every time the doors opened.

This is very clean hostel which is very comfortable especcialy for young people. Nice kitchen with big big dining room and a good WiFi connection
Hm, I had very strange situation during checkout: the staff was rudy and said I something about they cancelled my booking in the future. I really didn't understand why - I hope I'm nice guest with didn't make any problems during the stay. Very strange.

The location is great, the neighborhood is safe and the building was stunning. The bed was comfortable enough to have a good night sleep. Overall, it is good value for the price and I can definitely recommend staying here.
There were not enough blankets to keep me warm in the night. Even though there was some heating in the room, I felt the cold through the window next to the bed (it was -5 degrees Celsius outside) and had to wear socks to stay warm. The water pressure from the shared showers was also low. These were however minor things for me, but just be aware that if you are traveling during the winter make sure your pjs keep you warm.

The Staff was super friendly and the included breakfast was perfect and convenient in the lobby
The beds themselves were comfortable, but the bunk bed that we had was the loudest squeker I haver ever heard haha. We were a little worries with how much the top bunk moved around but it was totally fine in the end!

I enjoyed my stay at this hostel, it exceeded my expectations. Firstly, the free breakfast was simple but just what you would need with toast, juice, coffee etc. The kitchen was super clean and big and had everything you could need. On top of the kitchen, the hostel had a music room and TV room which were nice to chill in, do some work and meet new people. All the staff were super lovely and kept the place ticking beautifully, it was so lovely that at breakfast they would handle the washing up so travellers could go out and about. The bedrooms were really nice as well, I was in a 10-bed dorm but it had a max of 6 people in at one point and they were clean and spacious, the bed was comfy. The lockers were very big too, and could fit my cabin bag and rucksack in.
If I was being picky I could suggest that it would be nice if the breakfast finished a little later than 9:30 am for the late risers. In addition, I was in a 10-bed dorm with metal bunk beds and as a result, the bed could be noisy at points when moving about and getting into it. One thing I didn't like is that the women's restroom on the first floor as the showers only have material curtains and nowhere to get changed or put your dry stuff. However, if you go to the second floor the shower cubicles have separate locked areas for changing.

Location! Things to do, places to see and shop, nightlife, theaters, various restaurants in & around the neighborhood. My first visit at CGH, I found a church within walking distance that I like (Lighthouse Church of Chicago). So, I always visit when I stay here. Also, it's not too far from tourists attractions via car or transit. For breakfast, they have- bread (butter, jelly), waffles (syrup), four cereals, assorted yogurt, tea packets (sugars, honey), brewed coffee (creamers), apple juice. On past stays, there were boiled eggs (hot sauce), apples, bananas and oranges. (Just a suggestion- oatmeal, or raisins and/or granola for the yogurt.)
Parking... it can be a little walk if you don't pay for the site's parking. I liked having a toilet this time, so I didn't have to make a trek in the middle of the night. However, the picture makes the toilet area look roomy, but my thighs touched the walls. 😑 The private room without the sink & toilet was bigger... the closet was bigger there too. The beds are not comfortable. But it's a hostel, so I guess. No closed captions on the TV in the common area. More seating is needed in the common room area with the door.

Great location and perfect for my trip I was there for the marathon I was also extra lucky to have the room just next to the shared bathroom and showers so it was particularly easy for me. Otherwise it might have been a bit annoying to walk every time. But I knew it was a shared bathroom so for the price it was perfect. Also despite breakfast time starting at 7am (I think) on marathon day they made breakfast ready very early on for all the runners which was very nice of them.
Nothing I didn’t like.
