The Dewey

The Dewey is perfectly located up the hill from Lenox town center. We stayed in the Carriage House Queen which we found very cozy and even had a working fireplace. The main house had everything you could need for a perfect stay. I really enjoyed hanging out in the library when I wasn't exploring the surrounding towns.

This isn't really on the Dewey as I know it's an old carriage house. But the room we stayed in had another larger room above it and you could hear everything. When the other couple was in the carriage house they were very noisy.

Fantastic location in Lenox. The Dewey is a beautiful historic inn and a lovely place to stay. Rooms are very comfortable. We really appreciated being moved to room 12 as the fridge was very useful. Breakfast was simple but adequate, and we enjoyed it. Granola, yoghurt, fresh blueberries, blueberry muffins, bagels and English muffins.

A kettle in your room would greatly improve the level of comfort!

Birchwood Inn is a throwback to years gone by. It's in a beautiful old New England house, walking distance to downtown Lenox, but a bit off the beaten path, so it's quiet. It's old fashioned, but well maintained and clean. There's always coffee and tea available, ice, and a fridge for guests. A full breakfast was available at Church Street Inn (a sister Inn) for no additional charge. Since our room was small, it was nice to have a homey sitting room to read, and that was also a good place to gather with friends or family.

Because of Covid, the Inn is not staffed. Someone shows up to put out a continental breakfast, and there is cleaning staff in the morning. Otherwise, guests are alone. It's a little creepy at night when the Inn isn't full and the parking lot nearly empty. We locked up each night we were there. Additionally, our room was very small... adequate, but small. And there were very few guests. Would it have hurt them to upgrade our room and make a loyal customer?

Breakfast was delightful...grilled pear on avocado toast with a garnish of radish served with scrambled eggs was such a pleasant surprise. But I wish we had known before we booked that we'd have to go to another 'sister' inn for it. It made it inconvenient to go back to the inn and climb 3 flights of stairs to get to our cozy room. Our bed, however, was heavenly! Jeff was kind to take the time to help us with the plan to get to Pittsfield for the theater, and recommended a great place for dinner.

But as I said, going 'out' for breakfast wasn't something we anticipated.

The fresh berries for breakfast were lovely. We enjoyed the large reading room. The bed was comfortable.

It's inconvenient to check in at a different location than the Dewey itself. We hadn't anticipated carrying our bags up very steep stairs to the third floor. We had not anticipated having a bathroom across the hall, even though it was our private bathroom.

A beautiful old house in a great location a short walk from town, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The bed was super comfortable!! A basic Continental buffet breakfast is served, pastries or muffins wrapped in cling film, fresh fruit, cereal, tea or coffee.

If you want a hot breakfast this is served at another hotel in Lenox at additional cost. All rubbish/trash went in the same bin, there was no option to recycle!!

Aesthetically, this old inn is very pleasing and in immaculate condition. Staff and patrons were exceptionally friendly. Thoughtful touches are everywhere. Almost like a home away from home. Bed and room was exceptionally comfortable.

Check in is off the property. The other location is close though and they greet you with wine. $120 deposit, which is reasonable, but not clear until you book.

when things go wrong, which they always do, there’s no recourse there’s no one to call there’s no front desk it’s disconcerting. It’s disturbing to have to close the front door in the middle of the night multiple times because the wind has blown it open and no one else is there.

Location and being in a vintage building. All the public rooms especially were beautiful and so interesting. Loved the fact that there was a baby grand piano, lots of different books and magazines, games, puzzles, and things for children. Loved the huge fireplace and the gas fireplace in my room. Happy that I had a first floor choice of room in the renovated carriage house.

We loved the historic inn…the bedroom was huge with the most comfortable king bed we’d ever slept on, away from home. The bathroom was spacious.

The bedroom was on the 2nd floor - 15 steps, which made it a bit difficult with our luggage, but it was worth it. We loved the front porch and the lose proximity to town, where we walked for our meals.
