The Colonial Inn & Creamery

The location couldn’t have been better. It was a block and a half from the Gorge trail which was the purpose of our visit. The hotel also offers homemade ice cream and wood fired pizza! Paige was very pleasant and helpful with restaurant suggestions and where to find great waterfalls nearby.

This is more a disappointment than a didn’t like. We booked a deluxe queen room and felt it was more of a basic room. For the price we paid and only a one night stay it was fine. We pulled the bed away from the wall for our comfort during our stay so my husband didn’t have to climb over or wake me during the night.

The motel is located on the main street in the downtown. We were able to walk to the Watkins Glen State Park and easily tour the gorge. This is a big plus if you are intending to hike the gorge and you will save the $10 parking fee at the park. There were lots of good restaurants within walking distance. There is an outdoor pizza restaurant on the premises where you can eat your pizza at tables at a shaded patio and watch the pedestrians and traffic go by. There is also an ice cream parlor that seemed very popular in the building. Customers can sit in comfy chairs by the lawn to eat their ice cream. Although, the motel is on the main street, our room was quiet. We were pleasantly surprised by how large and bright our room was. We were able to park right beside our room.

We went to Curleys for breakfast, which came recommended, and it was great. It was located right up the street and had great food and service. The location of the Colonial Inn and Creamery was close to restaurants, shopping, Watkins Glen State Park and the lake. The bed and bedding in our room was like sleeping on a cloud, very comfortable!

You should not expect a modern hotel. It is quaint, well cared for and clean. The staff will make sure you have everything you need.

We chose this hotel because of the proximity to Watkins Glen, which was a two block walk. This was perfect! Everyone in my group loved that we could come and go and not have to worry about parking. There are several restaurants in walking distance as well.

On a personal note, I have to do a little work when I travel. There was no space at the motel for me to go and work. I managed and this was the only negative aspect for me.

We weren’t warned this was on a major thoroughfare with a steady stream of semis, motorcycles and cars. No breakfast at all. In fairness NY was just coming out of winter and pandemic restrictions. Nevertheless we were forced to forage for something resembling breakfast. See above

Comfy beds, quiet rooms, excellent service - our manager, Brian, was very helpful and gave good advice on places to go. It was nice to be able to get ice cream and sit outside on rocking chairs. Overall very charming.

The rooms themselves need some upgrades, such as bathroom exhaust fans, electrical outlet in the bathroom, some shelves in the shower. Breakfast would be nice, since local establishments seem to close randomly.

Right in the middle of town, so we could walk anywhere in town, enjoyed the rocking chairs, and fire pit on cool evenings. They agreed to have us bring our 2 dogs ... which is hard to find. A nice feature is an extra sink in many rooms ... so no waiting for the bathroom, even with 4 adults ! Some rooms have refrigerators & microwaves. They have a wide variety of home made ice cream in their shop. The Irish Cream (21 and over), Mocha Chocolate Chip, and Mint Chocolate Chip were my favorites. But Bailey's Vanilla and Rum Raisin (both 21 and over) were really good too. The (on-site) Pizza made in a wood burning oven is top notch ... a must have when in town or passing through.

Beds were a bit soft for us - we like firm mattresses for our back issues.

We booked it because it was close to Watkins Glen State Park- easy walking distance. Also wanted to try the homemade ice cream- which was delicious. Unfortunately we did not get to try the pizza because of the rain, but it smelled amazing. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. Had a great stay.

Wish there was a hook in the bathroom to hang a towel besides the sink.

The location was amazing. We could walk to the park as well as the pier. The ice cream and pizza were amazing. Rockers on front porch. A living room and solarium to hang out on rainy days.

Building was charming. Location in the center of Watkins Glen was excellent. Could park and walk to everything. Staff were exceptional. Room was small and basic. Price as high because of the event. Would I stay again..YES.
