Candlewood Suites Newport News-Yorktown, an IHG Hotel

The staff were all very welcoming, helpful and happily answered any questions that I had. Special mentions for Dee Dee and China at the front desk, but honestly, all staff members were charming and a joy to interact with. Our room was exactly as advertised (we had a one bedroom suite), meaning that we could work and relax. The Wi-Fi internet was also good enough for my husband and I to both conduct individual meetings while we were on holiday. I used the Fitness Room a few times and was glad that it was there. Also, the courtesy washing machine and driers were added bonuses. And free coffee on tap! Being located so near to shops and restaurants was wonderful as we hadn't hired a car for our trip.

Even though we knew not to expect regular housekeeping due to our extended stay, it would have been nice to have had an option - or have been told - to have our room cleaned during our visit. I washed the hotel towels with my own wash (I know that I could have just asked for clean towels at reception, but decided to add the hotel's towels to my own washing load. So in the 20 days that we stayed, our room was never cleaned. It's true that we were often in the room, but we could have easily vacated it for this purpose.

The hotel is a good place to stay if you are just looking for a clean and safe environment to lay your head without all of the luxurious amenities such a spa and room service. The staff was extremely friendly. Ms. Keisha was awesome. She went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. She's a very good listener and very detailed. I also really liked the hand sanitizer stations beside the elevator which was really nice especially if you are a germaphobe. With all this being said, I still brought plenty of Lysol, Mircoban, and disinfectant wipes with me to wipe down my entire room as an extra precaution. There was plenty of free parking and nearby restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Nothing fancy at Candlewood Suite, but again very clean and each room also comes with a fully equipped kitchenette and full size refrigerator so you'll never miss out on a home cooked meal.

The bathroom shower and faucet in room #208 dripped all night. In addition, there was a light annoying rumbling sound that sometimes turned into an engine knocking noise near my bed. Possibly a generator which made it sort of difficult to sleep the first night. Fortunately, the noise only lastd a few minutes and my ears eventually got use to the noise each day.

The property was very clean and the pond behind it was very pretty.The room was very nice and the bed was very comfortable.It was very quiet at the hotel and the location was great with a lot of food places close by.

I didn’t like that they didn’t offer a free hot breakfast in the morning for the price.

You are not able to open the windows fully. I understand why. But missed having the cool breezes at night. Instead of using the AC.

We have stayed here before and always had a good experience. Room offers easy lifestyle of cooking and preparing food when traveling with a family. They also offer laundry which was helpful. Staff was very friendly and helpful
