An excellent location 2 minutes’ walk from Marseille-St- Charles station; ideal if you’re arriving in the evening and leaving early next morning (as we were). Sound proofing is good. Breakfast was particularly generous and varied, and good value. Staff were very friendly and helpful; they seem to really like working in this Ibis, and are proud of it.

While a good effort had been made to modernise it, our room was small, although it was fully adequate for our one-night stay and we slept well.

If you are going to travel a lot and just want a place near the train station to spend the night, like us, it's an excellent option. You literally just have to cross the street. The restaurant is good and fairly priced (for French standards), although it's understaffed and gets confusing when there are many clients. Staff in general are sympathetic, efficient and speak English.

The pillows are really, really bad, so we needed to ask for a few extra ones.

If you are a stranger visiting Paris who wants to come down to Marseille, the Ibis - Gare Saint Charles is a strategic place to land. It is on the train station property, with car rental right next door. It is a starting point to your visit to South France that can be navigated completely in English and with a high level of security in a city known for its pick-pockets and con artists.

I hope that Booking.com continues to develop its dispute resolution processes so that it is easy to resolve confusing billing situations.

Breakfast had many options. Breakfast area was nice and clean. Coffee is from a machine. Lots of great tea options though and soy milk available most of the days! The Rooms were super clean and the hotel staff was friendly and polite. I do not speak French and therefore I did very much appreciate the effort everyone made to be helpful. Lockers are available for luggage and payment can be made by card and/or cash. The drinks at the bar were basic. Menu options at the restaurant were good and I tried the menu of the day which was delicious!

Located next to the train station it was easy to get around by metro in the city. However, it was not safe to walk in the area at night. There are a lot of homeless people in the area. The streets, elevators, private parkings around the hotel smelled like toilet. Encounters with rats on the street outside the hotel and also at the outdoor areas of the hotel happened at a daily basis. Would be great if the mattresses could be upgraded at some point. Menu could have vegetarian and/or vegan options.

The staff were super helpful and accommodating from allowing us travel weary passengers to check in early to providing us with ice for our drinks in the evening. Friendly, polite and charming and made us feel very welcome. The rooms are clean and functional and the shower was excellent.

The area around the train station is not really all that nice at nighttime

The hotel is situated literally 2mn walk from the gare St Charles. Check in staff was extremely friendly and efficient. Check-in was less than 2 mn. Staff was very helpful when asked for directions for sight seeing. The room was nice, what you would expect from a Ibis hotel. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean. The hotel was quiet. Having the station so close is perfect for public transport. The "Vieux Port" is only 15mn walk away and there is a direct Metro line to go to the Stade Velodrome!

The shower was very small. It was OK for us.

The Hotel is in a fantastic location right next to the Central Station in Marseille.(2 minutes walk from hotel) The bus from the airport is less than 30mins away and arrives at the station which also has the Metro station. The Port is less than 15 mins walk from the hotel - 2 stops on Metro. The Breakfast is average but sets you up for the day very limited hot food choice however good choice of breads, cold meat, fruit, cereals etc. There is a nice bar area.Overall great location in a value for money hotel.

Size of room

Location next to train station however it was still a quiet hotel. We slept like logs as the beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. Lovely stay and helpful staff.

Would be great if we can use the tables to drink a coffee, or a glass of local wine - even if we need to pay a cork fee. We bought a special local wine to drink with our friends however were told that only wine that was purchased at the bar can be consumed at the tables…so we had to move to our room.

Excellent friendly staff and support. Location is perfect for those who would like to use trains from the main St Charles train station. The hotel provided everything we wanted such as extra towels etc and supported with half a day luggage storage as well.

Room size was too small and air-conditioning could have been stronger!

excellent location, convenient access to train and Metro stations. walking distance to city center or 2 stops away by metro. Room is at 4th floor, small, but amazing view, we can see the city, notre-dame de la Garde and the sea, and room price is fair.
