This was a birthday weekend and mentioned several times. There was no one that did anything to recognise my birthday at all Very disappointing

Amazing location, right on the main street - easy to get around and an amazing bakery opposite the hotel! Breakfast was also really good - it's a cold breakfast, but everything was high quality - the bread being served was delicious. The staff was incredibly helpful at recommending tours and did not try to sell us anything that is overpriced! It matched exactly what we saw online.

The softest bed linen and a super comfy pillow made my stay exceptional. Good breakfast, the highlight for me was the sourdough bread. Icelandic sourdough is delicious. A negative could be lack of kettle in the room and no drinking water for in room but as you can see the high quality bedding was too good to deduct even a star. Molton Brown toiletries too, very nice!

Lack of Kettle and drinking water. There is nespresso type of coffee thing and tea bags but kettle is where it is at for perfect cuppa. Never mind as we had tea and top quality hot choc in Sandholt bakery next door for lunch

We could not fault this property. The location was fantastic, so close to many restaurants, cafes and bars. The staff were so friendly and helpful and were even happy to store our luggage for us while we did a 6 day around Iceland tour! I cannot begin to express our appreciation and gratitude for allowing us to do that! The onsite gym was good. It had the basics and was good for a smaller workout post travelling for the week. You could even book your airport bus transfer directly through the hotel website which made it very convenient too. The welcome drink in the hotel bar was a nice touch too. The bartender was very friendly and up for a chat. Highly recommend this hotel and we wish we were able to stay longer!

Our only regret is not staying longer to properly enjoy the hotel and its surrounds. We didn’t get to try the free breakfast because we had to depart at 0400 in the morning. There was a continental breakfast available at this time but it was very small. Although the hotel does offer a laundry service, it would be so much better if there was a hotel laundry for guests to use even if we have to pay for it. Especially when travelling, being able to wash your clothes onsite is a game changer.

Loved this hotel. The location is perfect. Right in the centre of the city. Near to the bus station and 5 minutes to amazing restaurants and bars. The staff were incredible. We arrived early and were checked right in with no issues at all. All of the staff at breakfast were so welcoming and friendly. It was also the best hotel breakfast I have ever had. The room was immaculate. Really comfortable bed and amazing shower. I can’t even express how much I loved it. Would go back tomorrow if I could!

Nothing we didn’t like

The helpfulness of the staff was extraordinary. They were able to solve our issues, provide porter service for our bags, and arrange for a ride to the airport when we left.

My only complaint was that we prefer a cooler temperature for sleeping - 15 or 16 degrees - and there was only one transom window that opened. Unfortunately, our first night coincided with a holiday celebration, so there was quite a bit of noise from the street. The excellent staff were able to find us a junior suite on the opposite side of the building and generously gave us a discount on the rate. We slept very well for our next three nights.

Very helpful staff - provided a sheet to cover us in bed as duvet was too warm. Extremely good central location and had no difficulty finding parking that was relatively inexpensive, thanks to helpful hotel staff.

We had to leave just before restaurant opened for breakfast - so it is disappointing that hotel only provides croissant and coffee when we had paid for breakfast in our room rate. Some fruit and also jam for the croissant would have been nice. We had a room facing at the side of the hotel (West wing) which suffered some loud noise from a local bar BUT I'm sure the noise would have been worse if had been in a room at the front of the hotel (especially on Friday evening).

The location is great. It's close to shops, restaurants and is not far from the bus stops to get the coaches for excursions. The breakfast is continental and had a good selection of items. You could see a part of Hallgrímskirkja from the room too which was nice.

An option to have refreshments and snacks in the room/fridge would have been great, especially if returning late from an excursion and shops are closed. That being said, the tap water is fine. The breakfast could be improved by including some cooked items like eggs, bacon, etc, but not a major issue - I would happily return.

We loved Sand Hotel.The location is perfect for a short break to Reykjavik,as it is situated on the main street and very accessible to pick up locations for planned excursions. Fabulous breakfast,with plenty of choice and the rooms were very clean,with comfortable beds. For us,one of the main highlights was how friendly, approachable and helpful the staff were.Thank you to all,we really enjoyed our time at Sand hotel and would recommend.

Super stylish and in the best possible location. We feel super lucky to have spent our 4 day trip in this hotel. The staff are excellent and the breakfast delicious - not a hot service but plenty of choice meaning we all rated the breakfast very highly. It’s the first place I’ve ever been offered a shot of cod liver oil for breakfast. Our room was beautiful, really nicely decorated and a decent size.

The plus of the amazing location is that it is noisy at night as commented on by other guests, we didn’t overly mind as we loved the location. Maybe take ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper or even better - go out, enjoy all that this amazing place and to offer and and be part of the noise!!
