This hotel has a fantastic location in the heart of Kilkenny. We were within easy walking distance of all the major attractions in addition to lots of food and shopping options. The hotel itself has retained a very interesting character from its many evolutions and expansions. Getting to our room from the lobby involved lots of stairs and about 10 different turns - a fun adventure! Breakfast was served in the hotel dining room on the main level. The menu was well varied, with options for gluten free and other dietary restrictions. Service was excellent both mornings.

The cleanliness of this hotel could be improved. Our bathroom shower was in need of some bleach (or maybe an upgrade?) - we didn't see other rooms, perhaps the hotel is working through upgrades? The bed was not super comfortable - it felt as though it was an older, very firm mattress. It was a minor thing overall, but we were glad to be moving on after two nights.

We spent two night in this 250 yr old hotel. It has been added on-to over the years, and shows it in many ways. Hall ways to rooms can feel like a labyrinth with many turns and short stairs, up and down, to accommodate differences in floor elevations. Our room, while small had plenty of space for luggage. There was a small table for luggage, an armoire, a small chest of drawers, shelving space, a small desk, a rather small television and an arm chair. There was coffee/tea service in the room. Both my wife and I were particularly happy with the lighting in the bath room which all too often is not as bright as we would prefer in European hotels. The bed was comfortable. The room was dusty in corners and spots that one might overlook when doing a quick cleaning. Overall you feel the age of the building through out but this lent some charm and atmosphere to the bar/lounge and dining room. Some of the public areas were a little thread-worn but had many interesting historical prints and photos. All of the staff were friendly and cordial. Brendan at the front desk was a treasure for his helpful attitude and bright personality. He had very good and dependable dining and tourist suggestions. The included breakfast was from a menu and we were quite satisfied with it. The location places you in easy walking distance of almost every point of interest. There is parking behind the hotel - be sure to get the driving instructions. However, there is no guarantee that you will find a space. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the feeling of being surrounded by history; a feeling not possible in a more modern hotel.

Breakfast was good. Not a massive selection of options but staff were willing to modify things if you asked which was lovely. Location was amazing. Wasn't expecting such good quality for so cheap. A few of the wait staff were a littoe forgetful but other than that all was good

A few wait staff were a tad forgetful would forget what you ordered the first time. But they always brought it if you asked again so not too big a deal. We do not smoke but got a strong smell of weed in our room after we'd been out. The window was closed so maybe a vent problem? It was room twelve. Very very strange. Staff were all lovely and helpful. Dee was particularly amusing!

I liked the old vintage feel of the hotel also the staff where so friendly and kind probably the nicest hotel staff I've met to date also the food was fantastic we had dinner each night and it was perfect 🥰

If I had to say the room could have done with a small table and 2 chairs to sit at also the TV could be updated maybe a size bigger and wabottled water and my main concern was the bathroom the bath did not drain quick enough and I was standing in dirty water also bath could be replaced the glass shelf on the bathroom mirror is an accident waiting to happen as when washing in the sink we have hit our head and neck off the glass shelf which wasn't pleasant...we where in room 16 so the noise early every morning from the delivery entrance was very loud to the point we where awake from 6ish....

Loved the location of the hotel. The hotel itself is quirky and comfortable. It is an old hotel, and while some of the furnishings and fittings are old and in need of updating, we had a huge, lovely bed which was very comfortable. Staff were fantastic and very friendly and accommodating. Lovely friendly bar staff also. A great location and I would stay there again.

Breakfast lacks choice as not all guests want a cooked breakfast. More choice would have been welcome.

Hotel really well located just a 100 meters from city center, castle and main street. Free parking to the rear of hotel. Fantastic freshly cooked breakfast with nice variations to the usual fry although the traditional fry was also first class (We stayed five nights and had breakfast each morning).

Look it is an old fashioned hotel maybe not to everybody's taste. There are no lifts so anyone with mobility restrictions may need to inform staff when booking. The corridors are a little dark and some of the carpeting a little worn but the rooms were clean and warm and that with all the other plus's was perfect for us.

Sorry didn’t have breakfast, but had dinner, while my fish and chips were delicious, my partner’s wild mushroom was bland’ the pasta was supposed to be in a pesto sauce, non existent and mushrooms definitely weren’t wild. Sorry but I’m a chef! Definitely overall food excellent but a few small corrections would make it amazing! Lovely to get really hot food served to your bedroom by the friendly barman!

Ah overall it was great! Maybe extra plugs in the bedroom and extra toilet paper in the room, twice I had to go looking for more!

Breakfast and location were good. For a 2 star hotel, I was pleasantly surprised to find bottled water in our room and a Tresemè hair dryer - not those crappy little ones. Reception brought an iron and ironing board when requested and reception staff were friendly and helped with bags.

Serving staff at breakfast could have been friendlier l, seemed like when I asked for things it seemed like it was a hassle to them. TV in room - picture and sound was broken.

I paid for breakfast the night of my arrival but when I sat at the table in the morning. was told I had never paid. The breakfast was added to my bill so I was very surprised and felt a bit embarrassed When the lady said that to me.

Room was very comfortable but the duvet cover had not been put on the duvet properly it felt uncomfortable until I sorted it out myself. Apart from that and the query about payment foe breakfast I was very happy with the service.

It's really central, very close to everything in the city. It has a lot of personality, we ended up staying an additional night, and the staff were very helpful arranging this. The breakfast is lovely (but don't be late!!). We've stayed here twice now, we spend a lot of time out when we're in kilkenny, so it doesn't matter to us that there's no pool or spa. It's great value for what you get
