The Hotel Ilaria is wonderful - it's in an excellent location, the rooms are stylish and well designed, there's a coffee and prosecco bar available to guests during the day, breakfast is fantastic, and the staff are professional, friendly and exceedingly helpful. The location is very near Porta San Gervasio inside the main ring of city walls. It's a short walk to all of the main sights (Lucca is a compact city) but far enough from the noise and bustle of the busier streets to afford an air of welcome tranquility. There are a number of excellent restaurants very nearby. We were fortunate to stay in an annexe of the hotel attached to the ancient city gate - the building is a very short walk from the hotel and has its own entrance. There are plenty of interesting architectural features including exposed excavations in the hallway. Our room was very spacious and nicely decorated with a well equipped bathroom and plenty of hanging space. There's an area in the hotel lobby where guests can have a glass of prosecco, a soft drink or a hot drink along with some snacks - pastries, nuts, crisps and biscuits. This is advertised as being open in the afternoons, but we were also able to sit and have a coffee there whilst we were waiting for our airport taxi earlier in the day. Breakfast can either be taken on a first floor terrace or in the breakfast room, a pleasant area shaded by a huge tree. There was a really excellent buffet with high quality goods and plenty of choice. Staff were attentive and constantly refreshing the display so whatever time you arrived it looked well stocked. Hot drinks were made by the pleasant and cheerful staff and delivered to the table. The staff we encountered were all extremely helpful and friendly. We had to cope with an emergency situation during our visit and their response could not be faulted. Bravo!

This is a lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff who speak very good English. The location is excellent - just at the edge of the centre, so it's quiet but easy to get around, or to reach the outer walls for a walk. There is an excellent restaurant very near by (Gli Orti). The rooms are nicely furnished and spacious, and the beds comfortable. The breakfast is wonderful - there's a superb choice including delicious and unusual cakes as well as the usual range of sweet and savoury options. It's served in a shady conservatory or on a terrace. In the afternoons one can enjoy soft drinks, coffee or prosecco and nibbles in the reception area, free of charge. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Lucca.

We enjoyed our stay here. The location was great, close to the restaurants and shopping. Not a far walk from the train station. Our room was nice and big, very clean, comfortable bed. Staff was friendly. Provided restaurant recommendations and made reservations for us. Breakfast set up each morning was very nice and a free happy hour in the afternoon.

We were in the tower building which is separate from the rest of the hotel where our adult kids were staying and where the breakfast and happy hour were. Not a far walk so not a big deal but we would have preferred to be in the same building with the amenities.

Amazing hotel and location. My husband and I along with our friends ( 2 other couples ) were in the tower which is across the road from the hotel and only have 3 rooms so we had it all to ourselves. These were superior rooms and were beautiful, huge beds and plenty of space (ours had a mezzanine). The staff could not to enough for us starting before our trip when they arranged our airport transfers. It is the only hotel we have all been to the provide snack, hot drink and beer complimentary between 12 and 5 and then happy hour of processo between 5 and 6. The hotel topped off our amazing trip and we'll definitely be back.

Nothing to not like.

The location is wonderful, on the river, central Lucca and ideal for exploring the town. Breakfast was excellent and all staff members very helpful and friendly! We enjoyed the happy hour in the lobby and the terrace, a perfect way to unwind after the day's exploration:) We also really enjoyed making use of the free bikes and exploring the city and walls.

Although the breakfast was excellent I could not understand why we couldn't make our own coffee to our own preference! It's a very laborious process to each give their order. Plus, for Italy, the coffee was not great!

This hotel is in a perfect spot. The rooms are high standard and well equipped the bathroom was great too. The hotel is visually attractive the terrace is beautiful for breakfast which is of an extremely high standard - very artisan. Many guests immensely enjoyed the hot tub and it was perfect to have a few sunbeds to relax on in the afternoon after a day sightseeing - especially during happy hour which was a very welcome bonus ! Staff endlessly patient with directions and recommendations and couldn’t do enough - booked everything for us we asked for. Free bikes were really useful too. We would definitely stay again !

Our only tiny niggle was that the shower water overflowed a bit onto the floor if you weren’t careful but there were so many towels it didn’t matter.

Lovely, friendly hotel in a perfect location for exploring lucca and surrounding area. We travelled by train and the walk wasn’t too far, just don’t trust google maps! Happy hours were great and we had a lot of use of the hot tub which was welcome on the hot days! Breakfast was the widest range we’ve encountered.

The shower only has one screen and then one side open which meant we soaked the bathroom no matter what we tried! If being really picky, would add sausages to the hot breakfast selection (but I think that’s just me being English!) 😂

Fantastic location, great facilities at the hotel and the split level rooms are perfect for families (probably best for kids over 5). Rooms were spotless and the breakfast was excellent. Staff were so helpful with everything, such as recommending and booking restaurants. Parking was a bonus - although the tiny streets are a bit hair-raising on arrival!

The only very sight negative was that the breakfast area was a bit cramped and got very busy - the choice was excellent, and it was replenished often but there wasn’t really enough room for the numbers of people.

Loved the location - the roof terrace at the hotel was a joy we spent a lot of time relaxing up there. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice, the buffet and drinks were an added bonus! The bathroom was gorgeous - really spacious and bright. The hotel was spotless.

The room was fairly basic and would have benefited from a chair -although I appreciate the room was quite small. It would have been good to have more available TV channels or Netflix as our only option was BBC News (we are English)

The hotel and staff far exceeded our expectations. First class! Our experience began upon an early arrival where we were offered complimentary snacks, coffee, soft drinks (beer) while we waited for our room. The room was beautifully decorated. Again, all day snacks are available plus 5:30-7pm happy hour wine. Breakfast was great and the staff was exceedingly helpful with dinner recommendations and reservations. We will stay again if in the area and recommend to friends!

Only issue, shower floor is EXCEPTIONALLY slippery! I actually fell. I recommend some form of slight abrasive surface finish. Be warned!
