It is a historic building, so it is quite cool to stay at a traditional Japanese building. I liked they have a rooftop area where you can get fresh air.
First floor level to sit, read, and eat doesn't have any opening for fresh air circulation. There is no window to open in the mornings..etc. Unfortunately, what what worse than this was lack of cleaning knowledge of the foreign staff from Ireland. I saw her "trying" clean the refrigerator (which is quite small) using a bleach cleaner with the food items already inside the fridge. I couldn't believe my eyes, she was spraying the bleach product without removing the food items. This is reckless and risky for human health. It seems she also didn't rinse/wipe after spraying bleach, the trousers I bought only few days ago got ruined as I was washing hands by the sink area. Cleaning at the busier times of evening is not a good idea either.

Helpful staff. A poor guy was sick and the staff went out-of their way to help him translating his symptoms into Japanese so he could go to the hospital for treatment. Falling sick could happen to any traveller and nice to know there is a place in Kobe who go out of their way to help

I stayed from 20-25 Sep 2023. Level 1 - common area with bar counter seats, cosy corners to laze around, sofas and basically many types of seatings to choose from. You could work there, have complimentary Japanese and English tea and coffee. Level 2 - rooms for female dorm and mixed dorm, dedicated female toilet n sink next to the room. Keep your shoes on this level in exchange for indoors slippers. Level 3 - another dorm + shower rooms n toilets. Level 4 - rooftop outdoors area. Location - it’s within a 5mins walk despite me with my heavy 60L backpack + a flimsy heavy cabin size lugagge + 2L bottle, while checking on my google map 🗺️. There’s family mart and Lawson just within 1-2mins outside the hostel. Moreover, I really enjoyed the little izakaya 🏮 all around the hostel, in just less than 3 mins. There’s a Life supermarket/ departmental store just 5 mins away. At the Vierra Exit of Kobe station, there’s Kohyo supermarket as well as mister donut. There’s a lot of housing around the area and you can see the locals coming back from school and work, housewives too. A glimpse of the Japanese life! Wi-Fi - stable and strong in all parts of the hostel Showers - Good strong water pressure with hot water throughout the shower Staff - Speaks good command of English, they are of Japanese, Brazilian, African, etc nationalities. Capsule - wide and tall enough for a 1.65m person. I can sit upright without having to worry about banging my head or elbows and stretch my legs all about. Has 2 electricity outlet, where 1 is used for the lights. There’s also a wooden box with a password lock for you to keep your valuables. In room, there’s a chain with keypad lock that you can use to lock your luggage to the railing too. Hangers are available in the room, as well as in-capsule, there’s 2 available hangers for use. The hostel is accessible all by stairs. It isn’t too bad I feel. If you check-in before 9pm, the staff are around to help you carry your luggage up the stairs.

Excellent location with cozy atmosphere, well-equipped facility! Nakamura hostel is located very close to the KOBE station, to the Harbor Land and big shopping malls! The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the facility is well equipped and kept clean. Even the dormitory room, each cabin has a safety box and enough spacious for private luggage. The common rooms on the first floor are also very spacious - one tatami room(Japanese style room) with TV and the large lobby for chatting, web surfing and eating. Kitchen is also available with fridges and microwave.

Location - near to JR train station. Surround with convenience store, restaurant and short walk to supermarket. Free use on kitchen, fridge, cooking stove, coffee and tea. Quiet and safe. Free wifi.
Bring ur towel. But there is rental towel at the reception that not many people is aware. The manager is available at the premises in limited time but there is free phone to contact him and he will be there in couple of minutes.

The common area had a lot of cool features and a lot of guides/maps of the area and nearby cities/towns. The kitchen seemed decently equipped. there were bathrooms in every floor although there was no soap or proper sink to wash your hands with soap or brush your teeth in the third floor bathrooms (they had the mounted sink in the toilets not ideal for brushing your teeth lol) although not a big deal, just gotta go one floor down and you are good. While it was a bit cold for the rooftop it looked pretty nice and had a nice space. The location was near many restaurants and just a 5min walk of Kobe station.

I like that it is closer to the famous spots of Kobe. If you will carefully plan out your trip, you will be able to visit about 30% of that area. Kobe station is just a 10-15 minute walk. It is close to Kobe Harborland, which me and my friend went for a cruise ship unplanned. The Bay Area has a lot of shops and restaurants. On our third day, we visited Nunobiki Herb Gardens, Kitano IIjinkan-Gai and finish off with having our dinner at Kobe Chinatown Nankinmachi. Just a big trip for drivers! Before visiting those places, google right away where you can park. Because a lot of those crowded places would have pay parking that are too expensive. Like charging you 300 yen per 10 minutes. So beware. All in all, the hostel has a laid back feel that artsy people like me would enjoy. The owner is really kind and can speak English well because a lot of backpackers stay in that hostel, too. So, no worries about communication. Have fun! :)
Maybe the ladder/stairs of the bunk bends are dangerous for me.

Favorite hostel I’ve been to! Love the random, artsy way it’s decorated, liked hanging out in the common area. Beds are comfortable and capsule-style so that blocks out most of the light and helps block out some noise. I appreciate how there’s a female-only room. There weren’t many people staying there when I was, so it was quite quiet which I liked! Lots of info and tips on local sites and food.
no laundry:(

I stayed here Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night during Japan’s spring break. I thought it’d be packed, but I only ran into about 2-3 people my entire stay. Even the common areas like the rooftop and 1st floor lounge were completely empty every time I went. The guests in my 11 person dorm were so quiet and respectful, and I was able to sleep soundly every night! Make sure to explore the first floor! I found cute little hidden gems and hideouts every time I went down there! Check-in process is also Covid friendly, where you call the owner using the free landline on the first floor, and he’ll tell you what to do from there. I loved spending time on the rooftop in the hammock that was provided! Smoking is also allowed on the rooftop! The vibes of the hotel are great. Smells like incense, lo-fi plays on the first floor, and the walls are painted by local artists. The hostel also has rental towels for 100 yen if you didn’t bring your own. Extra blankets and sheets are provided for free. Bicycles can also be rented for a price. Overall a fantastic stay for the price! 10 min walk to Kobe Harborland!
The location is pretty far from Sannomiya station (where all the good Kobe beef resturaunts and night life are) if you’re trying to explore Kobe on foot.

The dormitory had good air conditioning and the beds were comfy. The staff were super friendly and made me feel very welcome, and I got chatting to some very nice people. There is loads of info available on the local area and recommendations of things to do/places to eat. Good location for the train station, 10 min walk.
Nothing really!
