We stayed in loft B and in loft D. Loft B was an excellent set up with lovely views of the temple. We really enjoyed it. Loft D was also an excellent setup. The beds were larger than Loft B which was good for our teenagers and there was a door between the living space and bedrooms allowing for different sleep schedules. However, the outlook from loft B was beautiful which made for a great atmosphere.

Lower Beds in Loft D felt more enclosed than loft B and there was no view. The bathroom was next to the beds in loft B so this impacted sleep.

Loft B over New Year 2024 This place is absolutely perfect for a family base in Kyoto. Location: A quick 10 minute walk from Kyoto Station which is perfect if you’re coming down from Tokyo on the Shinkansen. Room: After staying in a typical tiny room in Tokyo, the rooms at 20 Pieces are pure luxury! The bunk beds are a perfect space saver and the kids loved it. The toilet is separate from rest of the bathroom. The bathroom is fantastic! 2 sinks and a big shower and tub. The shower and tub are awesome. There were 2 heating/cooling ceiling units which worked well. It did take some getting used to to find the right settings but they worked well. The kitchen is minimal with an induction cooktop, sink, electric kettle, and small toaster oven. We were able to save some money cooking our own meals. You don’t use a key to enter your room but instead have an access code on a digital keypad. One less thing to carry around. There were a number of things you could rent in the lobby. We only used the coffee maker. “Rent” is a bit misleading; It didn’t cost anything to rent the coffee maker. We were happy to be able to do our own laundry here. There are two washers and two dryers. I do wish there were more units though because they are small. It took 3 loads to do our laundry and we had to wait until very late into the night until the units were not being used. The view of Higashi Hongan-Ji Temple from our room was the icing on the cake. We would sit at the window in the mornings and evenings watching all the people visiting the temple. The staff were super helpful and friendly. Most of them spoke English well which was very helpful for us and we very much appreciated that. They helped us with tourist advice and also set up our luggage forwarding to the airport. We had our bags sent from the hotel to Narita airport. Note: it’s recommended to give this 3 days. They told us 2 days was enough but the company recommended 3 days which made us nervous.

Honestly, the only complaints we have are that we wished there were more laundry machines and better instructions for the heating/cooling units. There is one remote for both units. Just point the remote at the unit you want to adjust. We had one by the beds and one in the living room area. We kept the living area unit at 24° and the bedroom unit around 20°.

The staff at the front desk were really nice and friendly. We didn't rent many items but they had really cool things you could rent. My favorite thing we rented were vinyl for the turntable. The large wall TV in the room also had YouTube which was really nice because we were tired of watching Japanese cable channels. Our room had the best bathroom and the hotel had the best drying machines in our entire trip to Japan. The dryers here can dry a load of clothing in less than an hour while dryers in other hotels take around 2 hours. This hotel is really modern and feels high-end with the POLA shampoo, conditioner, and body wash and the Dyson hair dryer.

We got a room on the first floor with the door opening into the hallway leading to the lobby, so that meant there were a few mosquitos and other bugs hanging out inside the room. We used the stove to cook but the fan was weak and we didn't want to open the window wide (no screen) so the room smelled like oil for a while. Although the hotel is pretty modern, there were barely any electrical outlets besides the ones near the beds and kitchen.

The space in the room we had was great (Loft D). Had 4 queen size beds which is great for our family of 5. The room has a fire place that you can get the staff to light it up for you. Products used in the hotel are upscale. You can rent a variety of equipment/ glasses/ records, etc from the reception (no extra cost). We even had shabu shabu in our room one of the evenings. :) They don't do full cleaning up of the room, but offered you a box of cookies (they're very good!) if you skip the full cleaning on day 4 of your stay. Paid washer/ dryer on site, so very convenient if you want to wash your clothes.

Was told that though they do not do full cleaning daily, they'll still come by to collect & dispose trash. But that didn't happen. We had to leave the trash outside our room (they did get collected pretty quickly). No freezer, only a mini fridge. Location is a bit of a walk away from Kyoto station especially with luggages & stroller (about 12-15mins walk away).

Fantastic property in a great location; across the street from a beautiful temple. The staff were very attentive & kind, and, took care of us very well. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment & had plenty of space for my family of 5; the attached kitchen with utensils/appliances helped with cooking some light stuff for the kids or to heat up/keep cold all the awesome snacks we got from the nearby Family mart (2 mins walking distance). The proximity to Kyoto station (10 min walk) was great for us to catch trains to various nearby cities we visited & to catch the Shinkansen to Tokyo.

Nice location, a short walk from the station, but in a quietist neighbourhood. Excellent kitchen facilities. The beds were all comfortable with their own lights and USB sockets. We had a loft C room and was plenty big enough for the 4 of us. The nearest tube was a few minutes walk and there was another about 10-15 mins walk.

The only downside of Loft C was that it had no view, just the wall of another building. The wifi really didn't work well in the rooms, although they did offer to rent us a mobile wifi unit if needed.

We had a room with temple view and it was amazing. We could spend hours just looking at it, drinking coffee and enjoying the vibe. Bus station is very close and Kyoto train station as well, which is great for your Nara trip or whatever you want. Room is very clean and convenient, There is actually quite helpful staff and items you can grab, like razors, brushes, coffee is the morning and so on.

The only problem is that you can see footsteps of your neighbors, because everything is from wood. It is just what it is, we are easy to get asleep, so we didn't mind, but someone with light sleep might find it annoying.

We are a family of 4 with two young children and travelled from Tokyo to Kyoto in late August. We loved staying in 20 Pieces! The 2 bedroom suite was very spacious and comfortable, well equipped and there was a generous selection of high quality items to rent from Reception. It was located opposite a beautiful temple with easy access to Kyoto station via an underground walkway and Family Mart supermarket round the corner. The laundry room was very handy and easy to use for a small fee. Reception staff were also very helpful and welcoming and assisted with restaurant bookings and luggage transfer.

There was nothing that we didn’t like!

This property is close to the train station, bus stop, subway station. It is very clean and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The kitchen provides adequate facilities to cook your own food and a small fridge. The bathroom was great. We used the fireplace once. It provided a nice atmosphere. There is free brewed coffee and tea in the foyer in the mornings for you to take with you on your day’s journey. The provision of toiletries and onsite laundry to do your washing (great for us as a large family of 5) was also very convenient. We liked how central this hotel was for shopping malls like Aeon and Yodobashi as well as many restaurants which is great for families with teenagers.

We would have liked a bit brighter lighting in the kitchen and dining area.

My friends and I had an amazing stay at 20 Pieces Hotel in Kyoto. The location is incredibly convenient, just a 10-min walk from Kyoto Station and with a Family Mart nearby, which made everything super accessible. The room was well-equipped with all the essentials, and despite being compact, it felt surprisingly spacious for the four of us and our luggage. The design was cozy and practical, creating a very comfortable environment for our stay. The staff at the reception were helpful and friendly, ensuring we felt welcomed and well taken care of throughout our visit. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to book this hotel again on our next trip to Kyoto. Highly recommended!
