-The hotel is very new and clean. The room has been cleaned everyday, though we are a bit confused that it's written in the introduction that room would be cleaned every second day. -The place is quiet and not far from sightseeing spots.. - The staff was gentle and helpful. - The shower room is cute and facility is good.

- The window of the room can not be opened.. Even if a tiny opening with some fresh air would be great.. - I personally do not like the Shampoo. Hair is not smooth after using the product. - Maybe it is because of booking platform, but we paid 20% more than our booked fare due to service fees and taxes. The quality fit the cost but it surprised me when we paid (as the other hotel we booked in japan pays exactly the amount as booked on booking.

The food was excellent at Soi Gaenga. They made check in very easy and had tea and water for us as we checked in. Luggage storage well-organized. Very pleasant and helpful staff, especially C.K. and waiters/waitresses. Great little restaurant that was open for food, drinks, workspace right next to reception area. WiFi was good and rooms quite comfortable.

Would have appreciated coffee in the rooms or at least available in the reception area.

Such an elegant beautifully design hotel! Staff is welcoming , speaks basic English. Rooms are small but loved the decor and has space to store a couple of luggage each . There is plenty of lounge area downstairs and the restaurant offers meals and breakfast( we didn’t try it ). We would request room service every day so we would come back to a clean room and fresh towels . Very well located in a quite area but close to the main shopping areas, open market. The cutest Coffee shops and bakeries around, just walking around the streets you will discover interesting spots. Laundry mat 10 min walk . There are bus and metro station around even though we often took a taxi to go to a main station or a place close by if we didn’t feel like walking. We got it a good deal on booking so there price was very good . I just loved Kyoto !

Generally Japanese hotel rooms don’t have closets or have very few hooks on the walls and offer very limited amount of towels.

The hotels location is excellent, off the main street yet close enough to the local underground station, with the added bonus of the neighbourhood temple 2 minutes walk away - no crowds! It has an on site Thai restaurant, serving good food and a very well stocked bar, open all day which serves hot and cold beverages, their coffee is excellent. The staff are helpful and courteous, nothing is too much trouble, will even lend you socket adaptors for free.

Be mind full when booking, the size of the room you choose, it is worth paying a few extra yen for more square footage as it will make a terrific difference to the size of the room and your comfort. We chose 'economical' - mistake!

Love our stay at ASAI. We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel is super clean, very aesthetic, and smells luxurious when you enter the lobby. The room is nice, a great size, not big but good size for us two. Amenities are modern and the bed soooo comfortable!! The staff went above and beyond to help us with luggage transfer plan to Tokyo, though we ended up didn't do it. Everyone is so friendly and always smiling! Would recommend this to everyone looking for a great stay while exploring Kyoto.

Location is great, just a bit of walking to kawaramachi bustling area. But we love our hotel so much it didn't matter. It is convenient enough as it is close to many different stations for sightseeing.

newly styled hotel in a quiet area, 10 minutes to walk into the area with many restaurants and bars; metro station very near and 1 stop away from Kyoto station; this is good if you want to make trips by train to Osaka or Nara; very friendly staff; breakfast is ok, you have Asian options which we did not try, the American or English option is quite good. The rooms are clean but very small. Anyway you can store your suitcase under the bed. Like most of the hotels in Japan that I have seen so far, there are no racks for putting your stuff.

Everything great :-)

Super modern interior mixed with traditional aesthetics. The shower was really nice. The beds were comfy. Tee and other stuff was provided for free in the lobby. Every day, new bottles of water were provided for free in the room. They even have a DJ in the lobby on weekends.

The room was a tad too small, so we could not really open our luggage at the same time. However, you have the option to store it under the bed. Also, the room was always way too hot, and the window could not be opened. Granted, there was an AC, but I prefer to have an open window instead.

Fantastic hotel in a great location. We loved the size of the room and found it to be very comfortable, clean and an enjoyable space to relax after a long day in Kyoto. The English TV channels were an added bonus. The hotel is very close to local coffee shops, convenience stores and also just a few minutes walk from the closest Subway stop.

Nothing - We loved everything about our stay here.

Everything’s nice and new. Very friendly staff. Especially Nobu-san who has been super helpful. I really like the smaller hotel vibe as well. Great value.

They booked us a room on -1 level. It is not completely dark but nevertheless it is « sous-sol. » To be fair, they did offer to move us on a higher floor but we were already settled in the room. This is a bit of a criticism for booking.com as well, because there should be mention of at least the possibility of that happening so that we can at least put in a special request. It’s all about knowing in advance what you are booking.

Asai Kyoto Shijo really showcased modern Japanese hospitality at its peak. You don’t need the over-the-top attention of a 5-star hotel where staff attend to your every move. Here, everything you need is thoughtfully prepared and ready for you to handle yourself. It’s clear the hotel understood the assignment when designing the space - it’s all about being customer-centric. The rooms are compact but so smartly laid out that they feel anything but small. Every detail has been carefully considered, and the high-quality amenities make your stay effortless and comfortable. It’s the kind of place where you can tell they’ve thought about what travelers actually need. The vibe is a perfect mix of international energy and old Kyoto charm. The staff were amazing, especially Phuong, the Vietnamese receptionist, who was incredibly warm and accommodating. She went out of her way to make my stay more enjoyable.

If I had to nitpick, the breakfast could use a bit more variety, but overall, this hotel hits all the right notes. It’s the perfect example of how modern hospitality should be done, and I’d gladly stay here again.
