the guest house is in a very quiet hill-side neighborhood. it's about a 15 minute scenic walk from the ferry that goes along the river shore, small shops, park, and shrine that everyone comes to see. We had a room in the second floor with a small sitting deck, and view of the river. The garden next to the common room had several deer that we watched. it really gave us a chance to slow down after running around Tokyo and Kyoto. As a side note, we lost all our yen (50,000) in an envelope somewhere in Hiroshima the day before. The guest house staff (Mr. Terazawa) was incredibly kind to call all the places we had been to since we didn't speak Japanese. He found that our envelope was at the bakery we stopped at previously and we were able to retrieve it successfully. He even gave us his personal number just in case. we are so grateful for his help and hopes he has a chance to visit Hawaii.

very convenient for transportation as the entrance of subway station, 7-11 convenience store, a small superstore & restaurants even a McDonald are in short walking distance from the hotel. Very clean in the shared bathroom and restroom inside the hotel, which are modernized & newly equipped with all necessary facilities. The towels are changeable every day. It is the best budges hotel for the sole traveler in Japan. I will come back to this property in the future.

Great location, very helpful staff. My baggage arrived late because the airline has forgotten it, and the staff received it while I was out sightseeing. Breakfast was served at a local restaurant, it was tasty, japanese style. We also ate dinner here several times.

Nothing negative but a few observations: Bit noisy because of the central location, windows cannot be opened, I presume because of the hight of the building. Room only has futons, a small table and a few clothes hangers, so it was difficult to keep the room tidy, we didn't haver anywhere to put our things, but this level of furniture is common is Japan. This was all according to the description of the room. Otherwise great value!

Amazing value for money! The hotel felt modern, it was very clean and had really good facilities such as laundry and luggage storage. The staff were exceptional at all times and our room was comfortable. It felt very safe. It was very close to the metro and a short ride into central town area and the breakfast next door at the restaurant was also great every day.

Our only problem was that there wasn’t a water dispenser or anywhere to fill up a water bottle which was really annoying! The staff would fill up our bottles on request but we couldn’t access it ourselves and didn’t want to keep asking multiple times a day. First property I’ve stayed at without this facility which surprised us as they had everything else spot on!

The room was clean and tidy. Same goes to the bathroom which has a lot of facilities available such as bath mat, cotton buds... The staff is helpful and there are good reviews for the nearest activities and restaurants. The fact that a locker room for the luggages and a laundry are available makes it more convenient.

The futon was a bit hard for my taste but it depends the client's expectations. It was hard to find some really local japanese restaurants in the surroundings, most of them where foreign restaurants. And to be picky, I would have loved there to be a few games available in the common room to socialise with other guests. But that does not do anything to the comfort and the staff's kindness

Very good stay near subway station and walking distance from the Kyoto train station It was nice to have a small space to yourself. Air-con worked perfect in the room. Very affordable Free breakfast was included in the price (I’ve not tried it though as it was too hot in August for me to have a hot meal in the morning) Polite front desk staff

Nothing to do with the property, but more some of guests. Sometimes women using facilities such as sinks and hairdryers would leave a mess behind with hair on the floor and in the sink. Would be nice if people were more considerate.

The Pocket Hotel was very clean, convenient, and affordable. I felt very safe. They provided all the basics and a few nice extras like pajamas. Extremely close to subway station and convenience store.

It can be a little noisy from time to time due to emergency vehicles on the main street in front of the hotel. It would have been nice to have access to a refrigerator or an ice machine. Only 4 washers for 8 floors of rooms, so you need to try to wash during off hours if you can.

to be honest, i have been a bit unfaithful to myself here, as i actually only book hotel rooms where i have my own bathroom. in kyoto, however, i was a bit late and therefore had to settle for a shared bathroom. there are two pocket hotels in kyoto and of course i walked to the wrong one first. this one is the one with the slightly less attractive location. it's probably the quieter one for that. the concept is that not much interaction with the staff is necessary. the ones i met were very friendly though. the room is honestly very very small and i had to "organize" myself. can't imagine how two people manage that situation sharing one room. but the area with the showers was very clean and not a big disadvantage. there are more than enough towels and they are changed constantly. the biggest advantage for me were the washing machines that wash, dry and even supply detergent themselves. I may be a little too spoiled, but I would look for a slightly larger room next time. thanks anyway!

Very cheap and easily reachable from Kyoto main station, shops and restaurants around the corner, friendly staff, the tablet in the room was very useful to see how many showers are currently in use (we did not have to wait at all), it was possible to borrow loungewear/pajamas at the hotel and the lobby provided things like a microwave and a water cooker etc. And: the water in the hotel is purified so we could refill our water bottles instead of having to buy water!

Sadly the windows can't simply be opened by yourself, only the staff can open and close it but it was never a problem and we also did not have to wait long for a staff member to open/close it for us.

Super central location with footwalk distances to many places of interest. Close to Kyoto main station. Clean rooms with modern air conditioning and air ventilation systems. Lot of helpful information in the lobby from tourists for tourists. Modern elevators and very spacious shared showers. Luggage storage opportunity was really nice! Very helpful and friendly staff.

Windows in the rooms cannot be opened which is the weirdest I have ever encountered in any hotel. There might be air ventilation in place, but still, there is nothing more normal and healthy than opening the windows in the morning. Even though the rooms were small (as pretty much everywhere in Japan) it would be great to have some shelves or racks under the ceiling in the room.
