Great location. It is very close to bus stops, train stations, a main shopping street, and Nishiki food market. Room was relatively large and can easily accommodate 2 and maybe 3 people. Did not have breakfast in hotel as there a plenty of great eating places and excellent restaurants nearby. There is a laundromat about 10 minutes walk from hotel. Staff was very helpful in preparing the paperwork for sending a bag to another city. Hotel wifi worked very well.
There was only one english TV channel but this is not a problem as I had no time to watch TV. However, the TV allowed screen share from apple and android devices - so one can stream youtube or other media to the TV via a phone or laptop.

The hotel was in a central location of Kyoto, within walking distance to popular places such as Gion and the Nishiki Market. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, pointing out where to get the best cherry blossoms viewing or even making dinner reservations. The room was huge (we stayed in a triple), particularly after experimenting Tokyo with much smaller rooms. The hotel also offered very convenient parking in the hotel basement for very reasonable price (extra). Breakfast was very generous, both in variety and quantity. We really liked the small gesture of dropping the daily newspapers on our room door.
We could not easily figure out how to "use the parking", beyond just parking the car. When we needed to exit the garage, we got stuck in the exit gate, not knowing what to do. The staff was very friendly explaining that they would "validate" the ticket after us paying the extra fees for the number of nights that we intended to park the car there. After that, everything was smooth. The restaurants in the hotel are upscale and priced accordingly, judging from our experience with the Teppanyaki restaurant (Hoen). The food was excellent but don't expect any Beniana kind of show, they keep it strictly professional to cook great food and serving you humbly.

The room was fine but the toilet was a bit out-dated (an old model of toilet. The Japanese breakfast was a bit on the minimalist side of quantity but the quality was good. The location was hard to decipher because from the room on the 8th floor we could not see any landmarks, mountains, towers, nor could we tell if we were facing NESW and that's pretty rare for a "view" of Kyoto. But there were excellent restaurants in walking distance. We ate at the Chinese restaurant before we checkin in, our favorite in Kyoto that we go to frequently even though we found the prices double what we were used to because of the time of year?!?! Shocked!!
I guess the description above was both likes and dislikes. Sorry I didn't break them into two answers.

Great deal and value considering the massive size of the room you get for this price for Japan. It’s also super conveniently located within the walking distance of Shijo station. The hotel maybe 20 years old but the room are very well kept and clean. I would totally recommend this place over other similarly priced super small contemporary counterparts. As for the service, I think it’s excellent as expected of a four star hotel. Though I have to mention that I’m a Japanese speaker so I do not know about the English speaking of the staff here but my colleagues seemed to get by with them fine in English!

the room is spacious by Japanese standard, the hotel staff in the lobby area are all very polite and friendly, they have kept the Japanese reputation of hospitability while a small but worrisome number of other Japanese hotels' service seems to be declining in part because the increasing use of casual workers and foreign labors (you can lose money in your hotel in Japan today, which was unthinkable in the past)...hope Nikko Hotels keep the tradition of excellent service.
nothing really

The hotel has several restaurants which we enjoyed. While they have a full breakfast with fixed price we preferred the continental breakfast via room service which was also very prompt. They also offer gluten free bread for breakfast which my wife prefers. We did try several other restaurants in Kyoto of which Tempura Endo was the best. The hotel staff was very helpful and made it easy to get taxis. As a noted hotel, it was also easy to tell a taxi where to go. [We had a difficult time in Tokyo where we stayed at a lesser known hotel]. We had a room on a high floor which provided a very nice view of the mountains around Kyoto as well as the tower by the train station.
They should communicate more fully about how room service works and how to have the cart retrived after one is finished breakfast. Just some pointers would be helpful on paper or in person.

I like everything in this hotel. The room was big for 3 people, the bathroom was so nice and spacious. Toilet is separate from the bath, shower and it has a separate dressing room. They also provide free drinks with a choice of softdrinks, orange juice and beer replenished everyday. They supply plenty of coffee, tea and nice coffee mugs and cups with teaspoon and saucer. Proper coffee bar. The porter is very helpful when we need a taxi, he is always quick to help. Close to Nishiki Market, Nijo-Jo Castle and other tourist spot.
Nothing much really except i guess the train station which is a fair walk in my opinion. But depends I guess if people does not mind walking its a good location.

The staff were friendly, helpful and treated guests rather formally adding a sense of importance (small but a nice touch). The room (Superior Triple Room) was huge with lots of room to spare for three adults (providing both a desk and sitting area (was really expecting a smaller room is is more the norm in Japan). The room and washroom was very well equipped and very clean (given that this hotel is a little older, there was a charm to this room). We purchased the breakfast option, the hotel offers two choices, western style buffet breakfast (reasonable choices food wise) or traditional Japanese style breakfast that was served. Preferred the western but the Japanese formal breakfast was a nice change from the ordinary.
There wasn't much to complain about other than the slight distance to main shopping street (just north, about 7-8 minutes). When you are out all day and running back and forth, its adds to the steps.

The staff were top class. Professional, friendly and efficient. They went above and beyond to assist us. Always available to answer questions and help. I was travelling with my senior mother who has mobility difficulties and they really took care to ensure she was looked after. The location was perfect, easy to access everything you'd want and need. We drive a hire car and were able to utilise the secured parking on site. The hotel, cleaning standards and restaurant were very clean. Fantastic bath and shower room with toiletries provided including bath salts
The pillows were very flat and the bed was quite firm. The hotel decor is old and worn and has an old carpet smell about it but they do a good job at keeping everything immaculately clean.

The hotel was very nice and elegant, the staff was great
The only thing i didn't like was the fact that i paid for breakfast for me and my family and was told at check in that my reservation didn't have that option. But i think it was the hotel's mistake because they mixed up my booking with another guest and didn't correct my reservation back to what it was;so i had to pay for breakfast again for 5 days for 3 people.
