Amenities, room and staff are great

If there's one thing to note is that the closest station to the hotel doesn't have an elevator so you have to carry your luggage up or go to the other exit to use the elevator

The location of this hotel is amazing. Walking distance to major train station and multiple attractions. You can take coffee from the machine in the lobby and there is happy hour (sake and beer) every afternoon and cotton candy for the kids The rooms were spacious and clean with a kitchenette big enough for light cooking (condiments and kitchen ware are provided)

Free craft beer! Do I need to say more. The location was great near the high street. I liked not being in Gion (way to touristy). Awesome shopping and nice restaurants around. Staff were fantastic. Mimaru is definitely a good choice for first-timers to Japan as the staff do a lot for you in terms of booking taxis, making reservations at restaurants, etc. Would definitely recommend it. We really enjoyed our 7 night stay

The aircon, it was a spit system. It was so annoying, too hot, and too cold going off every 15 minutes. The light from the air-conditioning was so bright we had to stick a bandaid on it. Sorry, I think we left it on there :/

Self catered. Several food shops, cafes and restaurants nearby. Quiet location. Easy to get taxis, buses and subway. Free coffee, tea, beer and sake provided. Very good kitchen, laundry facilities and bathrooms in the apartment. Very helpful staff, most spoke some English. Was able to arrange for an early check in, for a small extra fee.

One of the bedrooms had no bedside table. Bed was too large for the room. Low- back armchairs doubled up as dining chairs. Not comfortable to sit in for long periods. Would prefer separate dining chairs and couches. Quite a small living space for 4 people. Unable to open windows when raining, as water comes in. Would prefer not to depend on aircon all the time.

As a family of six, finding suitable sized apartment style accommodation in Japan has been difficult in the past. Mimaru has changed this for us, as the rooms were spacious, multiple bathrooms in suite to accommodate all, good living spaces and kitchen. And private washer/dryer was excellent for family with children. The staff were also outstanding - always helpful, gracious and accommodating. We had a number of inquiries and requests and they were always excellent in their assistance. The hotel provided two hours of evening happy hour drinks, and over the New Year period these were extended to all day in celebration for a number of days. This was a welcome surprise, along with a bottle of sake.

There was nothing to really fault about our stay with Mimaru, or the accommodation. As an Australian, the only amenity we would use that was not available was a tea towel for wiping our dishes...otherwise it was excellent.

We (two adults, two kids 10 & 14) stayed at MIMARU Suites for five nights and really liked the place right from the start. The reception folks were very friendly, also when we communicated with them before arrival. They have great tips for dinner and are very approachable. Our suite was spacious (for Japanese standards) and very comfortable, including the beds. Well equipped and with one regular and one on-suite bathroom. Aircon worked well and the living room was large. A nice touch is free coffee in the morning and nicer still was the happy hour between 5 and 7 pm with free (tasty) beer and sake. This is offered in a communal space near the reception which allows chatting to other travelers which we enjoyed. The kids enjoyed a MIMARU bingo which includes a few fun tasks to complete around Kyoto. When done a small gift was given, enough to buy another 10 mins of kid happiness. 😊 Another bonus are the large amounts of items which are on loan for free. A lot of useful items for the weary traveller (see photo). We also liked the location close to underground stations, restaurants and the main shopping street. All in all a fab location, highly recommended.

No complaints

The hotel is located is a busy tourist area several blocks south of the Nashiki market and many upscale shops. It's close to both bus and subway stations. The staff is very responsive and they provide a happy hour, free tea/coffee, and many extra items you can borrow. We stayed in the large family suite and it was very comfortable and clean.

In a very touristy area. I've stayed in Kyoto several times and I really felt like a tourist in this specific location. The lobby area is fairly small and gets crowded during the usual busy times. These are just minor issues - nothing major.

Great central location, spacious apartment, friendly staff, super clean and quiet, washing machine!

The pillows! One far too hard, one far too soft

Staff were exceptional, assisted us whenever we needed it. The hotel has a happy hour for guests so you can socialise. They offer drinks for the kids and a coffee machine, all of which got good use by us. The rooms were very comfortable, we had a 3 bedroom unit for our stay. Kitchen was handy to have and the table and living area were a decent size. Highly recommend this hotel. You’re close to Nishiki market, the bus and train, to get around all the sights. Should out to Alizee who works at reception, she’s extremely helpful. Tomomi who also works at the front counter had a calligraphy business and runs experiences in the lobby, well worth it!

The towels were a little small and could have been a bit nicer. The washing machine in the room was great however we had a few issues operating it.

My family received exceptional service from the front desk staff during my stay there in early June - Daniel, Hani, Alessia, couple of other ladies there (sorry I could not recall their names and likely also misspelt those I thought I could recall). Even though I could tell they were quite busy, they always found time and energy to attend to our family. They were so helpful with my pre-arrival questions, even gave us hot chocolate as a gift from them as we had asked if this was available for our kids, gave recommendations for what to do such as cycling and pokemon centre, recommended a wonderful english speaking doctor when our kids took turns to come down with a bug. We pretty much had to cancel our kyoto touring to stay in most of the times, but I was grateful it was at Mimaru Suites Kyoto Shijo. I felt so well supported and assured with such amazing front line staff, gave our family great peace of mind. The happy hour with free beer and sake helped my spouse and myself tide through having to stay in most of the time too :)
