The room is spacy and comfortable. Loved the bath tub and the Panasonic smart toilet. I saw big smiles and felt warmly welcomed every time I left and came back to AZABU. The location is convenient as it is only 3 min away from Gojo station, and it is quiet at nights as it is in residential area. I had a great time staying at AZABU. :)

The only suggestion to AZABU is to improve the noise cancellation from second floor to the first floor. I stayed in the room on the first floor (ground floor in British English). I can hear people walking and talking on the second floor.

The staff here are amazing, service orientated, always wanting to assist and finding ways to do so. The greeting tea and sweet is lovely and getting you straight into slippers and relaxing you - it was amazing. The Japanese PJs for the room were lovely, and we hadn't used those types of towels before - so new experiences. Our room opened onto two little gardens - unbelievable and lovely to look out on. The breakfast is great it is western with a French/Japanese twist and made to your order. Wonderful stay.

Nothing, everything was great. Sometimes the room was a little warm but we got used to adjusting that quick smart.

This is such a gorgeous little place down a side street in Kyoto. Whilst it's very accessible via train (one stop from Kyoto main station) it's in a quiet street and you feel you're in an oasis. The rooms are beautifully maintained and by far the hosts are amazing. So may little touches like how they make your room each day whilst you're out, to the amazing breakfast they make for you. It really has the vibe of being an old school Bed and Breakfast with a Japanese twist. I couldn't recommend this place more.

Not a problem for us, but there's no TV's in the room - so be aware.

Auberge is accomodation for sophisticated travellers that appreciate quality amenities and services. Far superior to normal hotel accomodation. It is more akin to a serviced apartment because the spaces are generous. All staff including the owners were exceptionally polite and welcoming and friendly. English is spoken, and French by the owners who are also long-time Parisian restaurateurs. This place is set in a 100 year old house with an uprade to modern standards. A Japandi style Ryokan. Highly recommended.

Because of the traditional nature of the building and its wooden floors upstairs, unwanted noise from other guests proved to be intrusive at times, (if they were checking out early for instance and clattering about), but it wouldn't put me off staying there again as the benefits far out weigh this one negative.

Loved it. For a family of five it is not easy to find accommodation in Japan but this was perfect. Two rooms connected by a vestibule all on its own floor. So clean, great sized rooms - the bathroom/dressing room was huge. The futons were also super comfortable. The staff were delightful - incredibly helpful and sweet. Metro not far away, could also walk to popular destinations, good selection of restaurants close by, and a great Japanese public bath within walking distance. Highly recommend.

Nothing - best accommodation we had in Japan!

This is a beautiful Machiya style inn in Kyoto. We stayed in two different rooms, with this review relating to our last night in the biggest room at the inn which was also the most beautiful. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, they helped us book a very nice Kaiseki dinner down the road and also brought some tea and room service when we asked. I would recommend having dinner at the inn at least one of the nights you stay as it was a really delicious French menu. Thanks for the stay, Auberge Azabu!

My only comment is that the smaller room we stayed in the first few nights only had a sliding door that did not close the whole way so there’s a bit less privacy. But it is a minor comment.

From the very first moment, I felt warmly welcomed and at home. Each member of staff was so helpful and personable. I was advised on what to see in the city, was proposed a list of restaurants they recommend and I felt really supported. Breakfast is an experience! I had a guess that the owners had some connections with France as I saw a few objects here and there that reminded me my country. But it’s only when I met the owner - such a charming and interesting character - that every piece came into place. He and his wife had spent more than 20 years in Paris working in food and bakery industry. So when he explained that all the brand, “pain perdu” and other delicatessen were homemade by him, I couldn’t resist! Unfortunately I didn’t have dinner at AZABU and I regret it as it must be an incredible and intimate experience!

Nothing! It was just perfect!

This is no ordinary Machiya or Ryokan , it is a small set up , just 5 rooms , BUT the amount of hospitality from all the staff was excellent , they really tret you as a friend and not a guest . They will chat and find out more about your needs and accommodate them accordingly . I ts like staying at a friends house. The amount of personal service that we got for the breakfast and dinner is truly amazing . Dinner is really good , Masa san who is the chef , will dish out the 5 course dinner , course by course and will explain in detail about the ingredients that went into the dish . It is a fusion food , a combination between French and Japanese . We stayed there for 4 nights and we were also offered , " external" food, one was a bento set and the other was a shabu shabu meal .

The bath room was kind of small , that was about the only small set back that we had. no other major grouses

I was in Japan for one week in Tokyo and 1 week in Kyoto. The week that I stayed in Kyoto I stayed at Auberge AZABU, the staff and owners are super nice and friendly and will give you recommendations of stuff to do if you ask they are super helpful. Also the location of the inn is super convenient and it's only a 30 min walk to get to most shrines and temples in Kyoto. Also I recommend that you try their bistro that in the inn at least once on your trip the food was incredible just ask the staff to reserve yourself a seat one day in advance. I will definitely be staying again next time I visit Kyoto The best hotel I've ever stayed at and I would like to thank the staff and the owners for the amazing experience that I had.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was lovely (facing onto two gardens!). The beds and pillows were extraordinarily comfortable. We were welcomed warmly the moment we entered the hotel. This was most welcome after 24+hours of overseas travel. The staff member oriented us with a great map and provided recommendations based on our interests.

It is an old building (which I happen to appreciate). It does mean that sound travels between floors. The chef happened to be there one evening when I asked a question about shipping our luggage to the airport. Unbeknownst to him, he gave me incorrect information about when the bags would need to be ready. As a result, we missed our window of opportunity.
