Hotel GOCO Stay Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi

I stayed in the double bed room. Compact but functional, clean, with a washing machine and detergent. The staff were so helpful and gave us extra blankets and a cutting knife to borrow when we needed it. I saw them helping another group search for nearby restaurants. There's a free water dispenser downstairs and they give you a glass pitcher to keep in your fridge. Free coffee and tea too. Location is very convenient but also tucked away in a side street so it wasn't noisy at all. There is a terrace on the 5th floor with tables and umbrellas. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in central Kyoto near Kyoto Kawaramachi station.

Hotel is centrally located - near Shijo Kawaramachi Shopping district, Kawaramachi Station, Nishiki Market, Shijo-Gion. Facilities is clean and the beds are comfortable. Other best thing is the washing machine & drier available in every room which makes it very convenient to do your laundry.. Staff are courteous and helpful. They make sure that we got the correct direction to places we're going. In fact, the manager (or the owner) even accompanied us to Kawaramachi Station to help us get the right train/tickets to Kansai Airport. EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE!!!!!!

The owners provide in the spirit of service! While the building is totally new, their family history of the place is special. It is clear they care a lot about their guests having the best experience possible! They went out of their way to help me find what I wanted to buy, and arrange the transportation to get where I needed to go. I recommend the Large Twin Room as it has a wonderful balcony and kitchenette, washer and drying room. The location is FANTASTIC and I was able to get where I wanted on foot and by train easily. Compared to other larger hotels nearby, this one felt small enough to receive personalized attention, yet large enough to remain low key and independent. Again, the staff was so eager to make my stay in Kyoto wonderful, I can't thank them enough! I will make sure to stay here when I come back.

What a wonderful experience we had. The owners of this small hotel are absolutely lovely-their warmth, genuine interest in the guests (especially our little baby:)) and attention to detail are incredible. The building was the family home of the owner growing up and you truly feel like you are welcomed into a family. We also loved the small kitchenette as we were able to cook for our little one. The rooftop terrace was great after a long day of exploring. The location is fabulous as well as you can walk to Nishiki in 2 minutes and you are close to so many major sights and areas of Kyoto. Thank you for such an amazing stay ( and for the toy for our little guy).

Absolutely nothing negative.

This might be the best hotel stay I've ever had. The owners are incredibly kind and helpful people -- they were always ready to lend a helping hand, recommendations, or just a friendly greeting. The room and hotel had everything we could need. Laundry in the room was amazing and worked so well with the dryer in the bathroom! The beds are comfy and the location could not be beat. It's literally steps away from Nishiki Market and a few big shopping streets, and not far from Gion and public transit to take you to other parts of Kyoto. This was by far my favorite hotel that I stayed at in Japan, and truly might be my favorite in the world. Do yourself a favor and stay here!! I know I'll be back.

The property was located in a really great location by Nishiki market as well as located by a lot of shopping and not too far from the famous Gion district. It was fun to walk around our area and we really enjoyed the vintage shops near by and it was easy to get to all of the tourist attractions that we wanted to see. Another thing that I really liked about this stay was the cold water in the lobby that you could bring back to your room. Often walking around and sweating so much you can easily become dehydrated so it was great to have access to filtered cold water and it was very refreshing. What really set this experience apart was the customer service though here. First off the staff here all speaks a really impressive level of English. It was so easy to talk to them and they were always friendly and smiling. Very refreshing after staying at many different hotels. The older gentleman there was a highlight of our trip and experience in Kyoto. He really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and recommended us stuff to do that we found fun and fulfilling. He was also really excellent at giving us directions and was able to tell us the best routes to places that google maps wasn’t able to. It was extremely helpful when we were leaving and my phone was about to die, he offered to let us stay and charge it but he also wrote down the directions and transfers to where we needed to go to. This was crucial for our trip after my phone died to getting to our next hotel and I really appreciate his kindness.

The room was a bit small, but for the price, it is hard to complain about. The value was great for what we got. Would 100% stay here again.

The hotel was in a very central location with good connections to buses and the subway. Also very close to a busy shopping area. However, it was in a very quiet side street so we never heard any noise from the street. The rooms also had very good soundproofing. The owner was very hospitable, he gave us a lot of information on which attractions were worth visiting and the best way to get to them. The rooms were a good size, we had a double and the one with the balcony. They both had a washing machine and an area for drying clothes. Everything was vey well thought out and extreme clean.

I would give 100 / 10 to this property. No where have we been taken care of so well in our entire travelling journey in any country in the world. The owners are the most humble people you will meet in your life, Guests are definitely treated like Gods here. The owner literally came with us to the station to drop us off and carried our luggage with us, so we don’t get lost. Everyday he will take care of us and ask us about our daily plans and if he can help us in it anyway. The location is perfect. You are a stone’s throw away from Nishiki market and about 5-7 mins walk away from the famous Gion district. Even though so close to the all important tourist places, you will have the best sleep possible as it’s not noisy at all. The room even has a tiny kitchenette and a bath tub and it’s bigger than most rooms you will find in Japan. I am definitely coming here to stay for as many Kyoto trips I am going to do in future.

The GOCO is a boutique hotel down the street from the Nishiki market. This made it so easy to take advantage of all the market has to offer. The hotel is fairly new and the manager went out of their way to help us when we arrived early. He even made us dinner reservations for a "traditional Kyoto dinner". Which was quite an experience and one that tourists don't usually get.

I gave the hotel a 9. because it is run like a B & B without the breakfast. The front desk closed early and check out was early as well. We asked for the hotel to hold our bags so we could go visit the Imperial Palace before we left and were told no. We offered to pay and were told no again. As a result we went down the street to another hotel and they graciously held our bags.

Super clean, good proximity to multiple train stations (Kyoto-Kawaramachi is the closest) and Shijo and Gion-Shijo (about 10-15 mins walk). Follow the directions provided by the hotel for the fastest way to get here from Osaka. Location is excellent as it is right next to Nishiki markets and the other streets full of markets. Staff were super knowledgeable and helpful with anything related to sightseeing and always offered the best advice in relation to when was the best time to go and what route to take. A bonus was that there was a washing machine with a good drying system and that they can all speak excellent English!

If I had to really not picky (this is standard in Japan) but it is tight more specifically the toilet but not really a dislike considering everything else.
