5 reason to stay here: 1/ If you like me had doubts about staying at the hostel or not because you are afraid of shared bathrooms and toilets - you should not. The cleanest place (not just for hostel level) I have ever stayed: the room, the lobby, the shared bathroom and showers. it sounds icky “shared” but in reality it’s a separate room where you can have you shower in peace and after go to a powder room with brand new dryers to sit and do everything you need. Toilets clean, quite secluded. Yep with Japanese toilets so your tushy is warm and clean. 2/ Coolest looking building The hostel consisted of 2 buildings one in front of another. The ultra modern lobby with coolest ambience to relax amid beautiful greenery. This building was concrete grey colored. The rooms were in the black colored building with automatic doors opening in front of you like you are entering Futurama. Also had coolest lobby with a great collection of design pieces and modern, steel equipped kitchen like out of magazines. 3/ Location, location, location Main tourist attraction were quite walkable with tons of bars, ramen spots, karaoke clubs and one of a kind clothing boutiques. 4/ Stuff was extremely helpful and accommodating. Kudos to the guys! 5/ Price. This one you can check for yourself. Yes, try to book ahead but if you book the last moment it still would be more affordable for price/quality/experience.

The rooms were a bit small but it’s a hostel so-)

Fabulous accommodation! The bed was super comfortable. Loved the setup of our double room, so practically laid out and cosy. It has lovely common areas, especially the kitchen which is huge and fully equipped with a coffee station as well. The locker room allows you to conveniently store and lock your luggage (you can set your own combination lock) before and after check-out time. This hostel is really great value for money and the staff are very friendly so I would happily stay here again!

Nothing. Everything exceeded my expectations.

We absolutely loved our stay here! Don’t let the word ‘hostel’ scare you off, we stayed in a room with a private bathroom and it was lovely, not much different really to a hotel. Great shared areas too - the rooftop and downstairs bar! Our room was clean, spacious with great room under the bed to slide suitcases under. Staff were very friendly and we were able to check in early as our room was ready. Amazing value for money! Would highly recommend :)

Sensor light in the entrance was slightly annoying during the night as it would turn on when going to the bathroom during the night and wake up my partner sleeping. But nothing really bad to note :)

Even though it’s a hostel the front desk is really more on a hotel level. They’re super helpful and friendly, and everyone I talked to spoke very good English. It’s got a hip and modern design with an eye for detail which made me feel very comfortable. I had a double room for single use with a private bathroom and found it very spacious with plenty of elements to hang or place my stuff so it doesn’t have to be all on the floor. The hostel is located in a quiet street surrounded by some cool boutiques and shops and is also very close to the main shopping/food area and all the public transport.

The lighting situation really isn’t great. There’s no bedside lamp which means that if you want to hang out in bed before sleeping, say, to watch a movie, read, or whatever, the main light fixture will shine directly into you face. It’s also useless for doing make up - I ended up standing in the wet shower to do my make up as it features a mirror and the only light fixture that’s bright enough to see anything. This might have been specific to my room but there was a VERY loud humming sound coming from outside my window at intervals. I always sleep with ear plugs but I could hear it anyway. Watch out for that if you’re sensitive to sound.

the staff was super helpful and nice

Could have an better security. Around 12PM someone was shaking my door 2 times trying to open and after 40minutes someone was knocking my door. I felt a lil bit scared since I was by myself

I stayed in a single room at this hostel and found it to be perfect for my stay of about 2 weeks. The price was lower than most similar hotels but the size, comfort, and usefulness of the room was about the same as you'd find in a larger hotel. The common areas, extra facilities (two big comfortable rooms to hang out, the cafe, bar, gym, rooftop area) were all a massive bonus of staying here.

The laundry facilities provided were kind of insufficient for the size and scale of the hostel. The all the coin laundry machines were always being used and it was pretty hard to get in. Granted I was staying during the peak summer travel season in Kyoto so this may not always be a concern when it is not Gion Matsuri and the hostel isn't as full.

- Very comfortable beds and pillows. Some of the best we’ve used in Japan! - A.C. worked well at keeping the room cool during the summer. Obviously the room is on the smaller side, so not much space in front of the beds for 4 people and their luggage, but we made it work. I advise taller people to be careful while going up the stairs to the upper beds as one of our friends hit their head. - Nice shared bathroom spaces - Amazing showers, the water pressure was fantastic - Very large and stocked kitchen, as well as common and gathering areas in the west building. The rooftop garden in the East building was also very nice, although I do wish it had a view. - I can imagine this would be a great place for longer stays, we were there only for the weekend to see the Gion Festival. But I would consider staying here again in the future!

- While it’s included (in small print at the end of the very long email), I wish that it was easier to tell you’ll still have to pay taxes at the property. Since it’s a Kyoto city tax, it doesn’t count towards booking’s “all taxes included” statement. Just wasn’t a nice surprise to find we had to pay more upon arrival - The walls seemed to keep voices from other guests out, but our next door neighbors played loud music well into 3 in the morning. That came right through the walls, so if you’re a light sleeper be prepared with earplugs/headphones or something to help.

The place is unique. Great value for the price. The room was perfect and super clean. The mattress and pillows are super comfortable. We rested very well. The common areas were great for us to work in for a while. We used the washer and dryer, all very convenient. The kitchen is very practical. The locker system they have to leave your luggage after check out is super handy. The location is great, close to everything you want but a quiet street. We highly recommend it.

Automatic room lighting. Nothing serious but sometimes unpleasant.

Everything, the experience staying here was a highlight of our trip. The atmosphere was just so warm, travellers from all over the place meeting up in the bar & mixing together. We couldn't help but to overhear as many conversations as possible, and learn about each person's current itinerary & background. The mixed dormitory is incredibly private & clean. If you've never stayed in a mixed Dormitory, you wont get much better than this for a first go. The location is perfect, you can walk from here to the main Gion district & potoncho alley. Also, there is a strong traveller presence in the hotel's area at night. But this doesn't hinder it at all, if you're in this area of Kyoto at night then you're probably getting your fill of authentic Japan from day trips or even past/future locations within your journey across the country.

Maybe one sticker was the price, considering we stayed in a mixed Dormitory you would expect a lot cheaper. But I can understand it given the time of year & location.

Comfy and spacious beds. Space for suitcases under the bed or by the lockers. Each bed also has 3 hooks for hanging, usb socket, two-pring socket, and overhead light. Two shelves inside the bed area and a curtain for privacy. Many amenities (including a bar and paid washer dryer), but I didn’t have the chance to use them all. Showers were great; they have two women only showers and two showers for everyone. I was able to leave my luggage’s until 9pm after checkout.

Woken up by the same people packing and talking to each other from 9-11pm and again 4:30am. Not something the hostel can do about, but reminder that you’ll be sharing with other people.
