Even though I stayed in a shared bestiom (10persons) I felt privacy because of the space and the stairs that I had to my bed instead of a ladder above someone else’s bed:)
The only thing I did not appreciate during my stay was that in the shared bathroom area and in the bar/coffee/relaxing area downstairs there was a constant smell of cigarettes as the smoking zone was on the terrace in front of the bar. Not only when you enter the hostel and go to reception the first thing you smell is smoke, but also a supposed “relaxation area” is not a place I would like to spend my time (and I wanted to, so it was a bummer).

5 reason to stay here: 1/ If you like me had doubts about staying at the hostel or not because you are afraid of shared bathrooms and toilets - you should not. The cleanest place (not just for hostel level) I have ever stayed: the room, the lobby, the shared bathroom and showers. it sounds icky “shared” but in reality it’s a separate room where you can have you shower in peace and after go to a powder room with brand new dryers to sit and do everything you need. Toilets clean, quite secluded. Yep with Japanese toilets so your tushy is warm and clean. 2/ Coolest looking building The hostel consisted of 2 buildings one in front of another. The ultra modern lobby with coolest ambience to relax amid beautiful greenery. This building was concrete grey colored. The rooms were in the black colored building with automatic doors opening in front of you like you are entering Futurama. Also had coolest lobby with a great collection of design pieces and modern, steel equipped kitchen like out of magazines. 3/ Location, location, location Main tourist attraction were quite walkable with tons of bars, ramen spots, karaoke clubs and one of a kind clothing boutiques. 4/ Stuff was extremely helpful and accommodating. Kudos to the guys! 5/ Price. This one you can check for yourself. Yes, try to book ahead but if you book the last moment it still would be more affordable for price/quality/experience.
The rooms were a bit small but it’s a hostel so-)

Fabulous accommodation! The bed was super comfortable. Loved the setup of our double room, so practically laid out and cosy. It has lovely common areas, especially the kitchen which is huge and fully equipped with a coffee station as well. The locker room allows you to conveniently store and lock your luggage (you can set your own combination lock) before and after check-out time. This hostel is really great value for money and the staff are very friendly so I would happily stay here again!
Nothing. Everything exceeded my expectations.

Such a nice hostel for solo travelers. Everything is so clean and well organized. Complex is modern and located at the heart of the city. Through booking, they send messages for special events before your arrival so you can register. There was a Kyomai appreciation and a Zen Meditation event that I joined. Unforgettable experiences. All staff are very helpful and kind. I was mostly in contact with Oytun and Ken at the reception. They showed great hospitality, and friendliness. If I come back again one day, I will definitely stay at this place.
Washing machines and the dryers are a bit outdated but it is ok as long as they work. It can take about 1 hours to wash and completely dry your clothes.

This was my fourth stay at Piece Hostel Sanjo, and it continues to exceed my expectations. The staff are consistently friendly, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable about Kyoto and its surroundings. The rooms are perfectly designed with comfort in mind. The beds are comfortable, there's ample space for luggage storage, and they even provide extra pillows if you want. The real highlight is the communal area, both lower ground and roof top terrace. It rivals any trendy restaurant or cafe, offering a very stylish, chilled space to relax. The fact that it's fully equipped with dishes, glasses, cutlery, tea/coffee/water, and even laundry facilities makes it incredibly convenient for longer-term stays. A nice treat - Piece Hostel has introduced various events events like live jazz music, fantastic if you want to relax without leaving the hostel. The location is unbeatable. Everything you need is right on your doorstep, and the subway station is just an 8-10 minute walk away, making it easy to explore. Comfortable and stylish, and the value fo rmoney is unbeatbale Piece Hostel Sanjo is an absolute must-stay.
I miss the breakfast the hostel used to provide. Made a huge difference to go grab some coffee and toast rather than have to walk somewhere and queue up for 30 minutes.

Modern, clean design. The owners really thought about the concept of this hostel with small but efficient rooms, spacious but comfortable community rooms, and many small amenities like free coffee beans and a well equipped kitchen. After we stayed in their sister property close to Kyoto station exactly 10 years ago, it was definitely the right choice to stay at the Piece Hostel Sanjo more on the center of Kyoto.
The rooms were small. Luckily, we sent our luggage to our next hotel in Tokyo as opening 2+ luggage’s in our double rooms would have been impossible. But that’s about it.

Design forward upmarket flashpacker hostel. Stayed for 8 nights during peak Autumn foliage. Great location, very clean, good facilities, friendly staff (especially the Turkish guy), and nice bar area downstairs. We really enjoyed the events (Maiko dance and live jazz music). We met repeat stay guests and would stay again ourselves also next time we're down in Kyoto. Excellent value for money.
Limited shelving/storage space in the room — a small but inconvenient issue. The shower makes a super high pitch piercing sound when running which is very unpleasant. Probably just the wrong plumbing fittings for the pressure.

Piece Hostel Sanjo's lux decor and design make it feel more like a hotel than a hostel. We had a room for 4 with a private bathroom and it was larger than our room at another hotel in Kyoto--and Piece Hostel Sanjo cost less than the other hotel. We stayed in the annex building across the street. It felt very safe and secure due to their key card and door systems. The kitchen was large and easy to use. We really appreciated having a coffee station with multiple options for types of coffee. There are two convenience stores nearby, as well as a multi-level grocery store. The lounge and bar area in the main building were very comfortable, and the drinks were delicious.

This was a great spot in Kyoto, a fabulous location within a 10 minute walk of the local station and plenty of cafes, restaurants and cute boutique shops close by. The room was comfortable and clean though we didn’t spend much time in it as the communal space downstairs was excellent. The kitchen was well stocked and supplied coffee beans and grinders it was a great size so even if multiple people were using it you didn’t feel like you were getting in peoples way. I really enjoyed the dining space and it was a lovely place to get some work done, the Christmas tree was a really nice addition for the season! We didn’t end up joining any of the events except to pop into the jazz night one evening (which was lovely), but it’s a great addition to the hostel with some nice options of sushi making and zen workshops.

Nice location, close to a very nice shopping street and sight seeing places
I’ve only got two complaints. I was on the floor directly above the bar area and the bands that play are loud, even after 21:30. And the dryer didn’t have good instructions on it, you need to put a 100 yen coin for every 10 minutes, this was the only dryer I encountered like that so I only put a 100 yen at a time and did that 4 times thinking I didn’t clean the dust catcher or I had too many clothes in and they kept coming out wet. When I asked the staff and told them I already wasted 400 yen, he told me how it worked but didn’t offer me any money to do it correctly so I ended up spending 1000 yen on the dryer that night. Not a big complaint but there should be instructions on the dryer because there were two other guys near me that just gave up and settled with damp clothes.
