Olive House was great. It was the perfect choice for beginning our travels through the south island. John and Ping were wonderful hosts. They were very helpful with information on Christchurch and its environs. The accommodation was very spacious. While the house is located on the outskirts of the city, the bus service to and from downtown was very convenient -- the bus stop is just a couple of minutes walk away. The airport is not too far away as well. There was room to park our rental car.

Our stay at Olive House Bed and Breakfast was exceptional, thanks to the warm and welcoming hosts, John and Ping. They truly made us feel like we were staying with family, and their hospitality was unmatched. The accommodations were outstanding, offering a spacious and beautifully decorated space. We had two separate bedrooms with queen-sized beds, separated by a large private bathroom – all spotlessly clean and well-equipped. The house is tastefully decorated, featuring artwork, including pieces by the hosts themselves. We especially loved the charming outdoor garden and patio area, which made for a peaceful retreat. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, with easy street parking available. John's local recommendations were incredibly helpful, and we appreciated how John & Ping took our dietary restrictions into consideration for breakfast. We were also treated to great conversation, making our stay feel more like visiting close friends. Also enjoyed cuddling with their cute puppy :-) Olive House is conveniently located, just a short drive from Christchurch International Airport, making it ideal for those traveling in and out of the city. The hosts provided everything we needed, ensuring we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Sadly, we only had the pleasure of staying for one night. We would absolutely return and highly recommend this wonderful B&B to anyone visiting Christchurch. The fantastic value for money, along with the exceptional service, made it one of the most memorable parts of our trip. Thank you, John and Ping – we hope our paths cross again someday!

We loved our stay. The hosts were so sweet, welcoming, and accommodating, especially when our arrival time for check in kept changing due to unexpected plans. Unlike most B&Bs, we weren't given a key to the house or our room. But, what this meant was that the hosts would wait for us to come home every day, which I've never seen anyone do before. They have a very cute dog and provided us with a lovely breakfast. They are so accommodating with what time you want breakfast (fruit, cereal, juice, yogurt, bread, spread, coffee/tea). They took time to make sure we were full and our dietary needs were met. We both enjoyed having conversations with the hosts, learning more about them and sharing more about ourselves. They've been doing this for over 17 years, and you can tell that they don't do it for the money. They do it for the experience, and they really make you feel at home. They only ever have one party staying at a time. So, even though we booked just a single room, we were provided with a room, large bathroom, and an additional bedroom that we could use as a storage room, which was definitely a pleasant surprise. Hosts also provided great recommendations for what to do in the city and handed us a map of the town. The rooms were comfortable, well heated, and they provided us with a kettle, coffee/tea, and fridge for our personal use (located within the bathroom). The neighborhood is safe and quite. Street parking is easy. And if you are going to or coming from the airport, it's located quite close.

We felt bad that the hosts had to wait for us to return to let us into the house. We weren't going to stay out late, but if we did, we wouldn't want to affect their sleep schedules for this even though they said they are okay with it.

The B&B is in a nice residential neighbourhood, close to CHC airport. We have early morning flight therefore a good choice. It is a beautiful house with a wonderful garden. The bedroom opens to the garden. Hosts are nice and greets you every time, and can give you good restaurant suggestions. Breakfast is simple with juice, yogurt, cereals, milk, toast and jam, and some canned fruits. Overall very quiet. Small dog in the house who is very friendly. Bathroom has a spa bath although we did not use. Adjoining bedroom (share the bathroom), so if you have children tagging along the arrangement is ideal.

A bit more variety for the breakfast would be nice (e.g. fresh fruits, and/or eggs/bacon).

John and Ping are friendly and kind hosts, we felt very comfortable during our stay. We were warmly welcomed and quickly felt like we were staying at home. The rooms were clean and well equipped, and the breakfast was very good too. We truly enjoyed our stay and talking with the lovely hosts. John and Ping also gave us some tips of what places to visit which we were very grateful for.

John and Ping are so friendly and sweet people. Huge gratitude for their hospitality. They have an amazing hose with super cozy rooms. Me and my wife enjoyed all the time in this house. John also shared useful ideas on what to visit and where to go. Definitely recommend to everyone if you want to feel like at home.

Everything was super nice!

John and Ping - we felt like we met new friends! We've stayed at many places and this was by far the best stay. The accommodations were lovely and the location was perfect for us. John and Ping shared helpful information about must do activities in Christchurch and for our following travel day. In addition we just mentioned our love for popcorn and John contacted his friend, Dr Bugs (who produces exceptional quality popcorn). The next morning Dr Bugs dropped off several samples! We are now happily munching our way through the south island, with many memories of these exceptional people.

John and Ping were amazing beyond belief- an absolute breath of fresh air. John is very knowledgeable and gives great recommendations. It was wonderful to wake up to a continental breakfast made. Talking with John and Ping feels like talking with close friends or family. A clean, comfortable, and charming place to stay.

Everything was great!

Beds were comfortable and rooms separated which was excellent. Breakfast was superbly done. Host wonderful including little Lucy. Very homely and cosy. Tidy and clean.

Unfortunately, the back bedroom's heater was a bit too small on these cool nights. Yes, it took the chill off but not heating up the room like the other bedroom.

Olive House is a lovely private residence in a northern suburb of Christchurch...about half an hour to the Port Hills. The bedrooms were well appointed and beds very comfortable, and we also had use of a separate lounge and outside garden area. The hosts are very friendly, and their little dog Lucy is a delight. If you enjoy chatting with a local, or having a little quiet downtime, this is a great option.
