I enjoyed my stay at LyLo. I liked how easy it was to check in and out, as the process can be done online. The staff were very accommodating and professional. For example, you can leave your bag there if you arrive early or store your baggage after check-out if you have a late departure. They also allow guests to use the facilities both before check-in and after check-out, which is very convenient. Staying in a pod-style tiny space was my first experience, and surprisingly, it was very comfortable. The bed was firm and provided a restful sleep, while the pod offered a good sense of privacy. Another great thing about this accommodation is the location. It’s within a short walking distance to everywhere, as it’s situated in the centre of town where everything is. It is not on a hill, so you don’t need to worry about climbing up or down to reach the town centre.

The only suggestion I have is for the bathroom on Level 1. It would be more convenient if there were more than one sink for washing hands or other activities. Having only one sink often creates inconvenience when several people need to wash their hands after using the toilet, while others might be brushing their teeth or using the sink for other purposes.

Really great location, walking distance to the city centre. Staff were super lovely and helpful.

Aircon/heating is centralised by floor so depending on the setting it can get too hot/too cold. You can request to change the temp but so can other people (so you might ask to make it warmer but someone else could request to make it colder later). However, you are provided with a room heater which can help (we had a few issues with ours). Our room was also rather cramped, which meant it was difficult managing 2 large suitcase - especially since the under bed storage was inaccessible due to the beds location and the wall. If you don’t have big bags and want the privacy of your own bathroom the Queen room can work well, however if you’re travelling with larger suitcases, and want to spend more time in your actual room, I would recommend paying the extra for a family room.

Excellent central location with easy access to the mountain shuttle buses. Friendly, welcoming and accommodating staff. Pods feel private and the room feels secure with very generously-sized personal lockers. While I often prefer private rooms, I honestly loved the balance between privacy and social dorm and did not feel the need to upgrade to a private room. Great upstairs commons area with an open, social atmosphere, pool table and plenty of games. Luggage storage area has a dedicated ski, board, boot and pole rack. Well-equipped kitchens. Very well-maintained communal bathrooms and showers. Has a co-op upstairs where you can leave anything you can’t bring home with you for other guests to take and therefore can find useful things like hats, gloves and shoes if you need something in a pinch and get lucky. Power sockets in the pods equiped with usb as well as a mirror and a storage basket on the wall were a very welcome touch! Guests were quiet and respectful in the rooms, but the culture at LyLo was very social, outgoing and friendly. The staff at the LyLo are very friendly and welcoming, and are always happy to help you with what you need, and advise you on what’s on and what cool things to do in Queenstown/Tāhuna. The activities board is a great resource for activities and socialising, as is the notice and classifieds board in the lobby. Whether in New Zealand/Aotearoa for a while or a short break, it’s a great place to start your journey. Honestly the best experience I’ve had in a hostel so far, and I really look forward to coming back soon!

Needs more hooks in the pod rooms to hang stuff. Kitchen is small, so can often be too crowded to use at peak times.

As someone who's also working in hospitality industry specifically in front office, I was really satisfied during my stay with you guys. Location was perfect. It's near to all the pick up location of my booked tours and it's just 4-5 minutes walk from the bus stop coming from and going to the Airport. The moment I stepped my foot on your property, I was greeted by the most amazing staff who helped me to check in. Tho, I forgot to ask for his name. The process for check in went smoothly and they took note of my request of Early Check In and informed me about all the things that I needed to know. (eg. 24/7 reception, shared kitchen opening and closing time, etc.) I booked the queen room without a window 'cause I really prefer to have a quiet room and I was lucky enough to have a room at the corner on Level 3. The room was small but it was perfect for me and it got everything that I need during my stay. I sheets are clean and the room smells nice as well. The television worked perfectly fine and I was able to screencast. They have a small heater in the room which was fine for me and kept me warm. All in all, the most amazing part of my stay was the staffs of the hotel. They were able to answer all my queries which shows that they're knowledgeable enough for the job. Thank you for your service. I'll see you again on my next visit in Queenstown! 🏔️🤍

The staff were very helpful, the beds were extremely comfortable and very private, and the lockers are password protected and surprisingly spacious. I forgot to bring my food with me after I checked-out; when I came back later that day, Amy helped me find my bag, which was moved somewhere else instead of being thrown away. The girl from Canada whose name I can't currently recall (sorry!!) was also very helpful. Thank you!

The fact that the kitchen and common areas close at 10 PM can be very inconvenient if you're a nocturnal person.

Perfect central location; very quiet private ensuite room despite being in a busy hostel; breakfast voucher can be used on any day (not just day of checkout) in a cafe a few minutes walk from the hostel, where you can get a good, warm bagel with lots of choices of yummy fillings, plus a hot drink; 24 hour reception.

Very pricey for a rather crammed, windowless room (accommodation in Queenstown is universally poor value for money and this one is no exception); luggage storage incurs a fee (but again, this seems fairly standard in Queenstown); no hair conditioner and tumbler in the bathroom; no tea and kettle in the room.

The room was nice and decent size for a solo traveller. Room felicities are in working order and as described. Great location in Queenstown Central. Very close to tour pick up area, inter incity bus hub, supermarket, airport bus....basically everything.

Staff are not attentive. I used the Ipad to check in myself when I arrived. At least the instructions were clear enough. On my last day, I left my luggage at the accommodation. When I went to pick up, there was no staff at the reception. The staff was chatting outside the building. Luckily, another customer told me where the staff was. Most of the time, I hardly see staff at the reception during the operating hours. 🙄

I really enjoy living here. The transportation is convenient, the access card system makes it very secure, the place is clean, and the sleeping environment is very comfortable. I went to Queenstown to ski, and I stayed close to the ski bus station. I made new friends here, and the kitchen and lounge provided a lot of convenience. I'll definitely consider staying here again for future trips to Queenstown.

There are too few power outlets in the room, with only two available in each capsule. It would be more convenient if there were more outlets in the room.

I was in an all female room of 8 pods. I liked how we each had a secure locker under our pods that easily fit a medium suitcase, carry-on bag and more, and it had a programmable 4 digit pin to lock. There was a decent amount of floor space between the pods to be able to open suitcases and get what you need. The pods were comfortable and warm. They have an easy self check in and out process and a locked room you can leave your luggage to go about your day if you arrive earlier than check in, or stay later than your check out time. Staff were friendly and the facilities were kept stocked and clean. It was a much better experience at Lylo compared with another hostel I recently stayed at. I would definitely come again!

It wasn't a problem for me, but the kitchenette is quite small and only has a couple of cooking stations.

I chose Lylo as I stayed at the Lylo in Auckland as it was great. This one also lived up the brand and was a lively and comfortable choice for a Queenstown base. There were lots of young travellers milling around and many snowsports people starting to go up the mountains. The hostel was easy to find and nearby to a couple of public parking areas (not really any onsite parking in Queenstown but for the location I would recommend just using the public parking at great low rates and just staying in a hostel like this one). The location was perfect for accessing Queenstown shops and lanes and the bustling lake front. The room was cosy and had pod style bunks. I stayed in an 8 bed mixed dorm which definitely lived up to a cosy description as we were all very closely packed in. This did only become a problem when about 6 of us were checking out on the same day and needed to get our bags out - mayhem - but otherwise fine. The bathrooms were right next to the room, clean and well maintained. They did seem to be maintained at weird times, such as peak usage time in the mornings so you were showering while staff were trying to replenish the soap etc but otherwise no waiting and no complaints on that front. This hostel is close to everything you could want and is a great base especially if you are a solo traveller or a younger traveller (this is up to you to decide if it applies ;). Could be quite noisy at times but guess this could be attributed to the fully booked busting nature of the place. Would recommend!

The lockers under the beds need some DIY, the majority of people in my room including myself had issues with them working which were sometimes resolved and sometimes not. I think this is a function of the locker mechanisms and the poor helpful staff member was at her wits end trying to help as best she could! It was a shame the bar/restaurant on the top level seemed to be closed whether temporarily or permanently. It meant the vibe on the top floor communal area was a little dampened and I really enjoyed my experience at the one in Auckland - hopefully it was just a case of off season or something!
