The feel and ambiance. The log fire on entering the reception and warm greeting. The historical feel of the whole place is enchanting. We had a suite which was spacious, beautifully equipped, and a lovely bathroom with a roll top bath. You could feel the age and history of the building. The staff were very friendly. We felt so comfortable and relaxed, we overslept. Don’t stay here if you want a generic, sterile hotel room. But I’d you’d rather have a cultural experience in a hotel right on the harbour side, minutes from bars, restaurants, and the shops; this is the place for you.
Nothing.

The breakfast was delightful, especially the salmon, meat, cheese, and maple pecan croissant. The room was cozy and tidy, and the location is fantastic—super convenient for getting around.
At night, it got really loud because of people drinking in the nearby bar. Sometimes, it was hard to sleep well with all the noise. The maple pecan croissant isn't available every day, and the elevator is a bit small, making it challenging to use with large luggage.

Staff help was exceptional and prompt. Breakfast was very good. Location was very convenient regarding local sites and attractions, restaurants, shops, etc.
Negativity in my comments had to do with room type we chose - rustic or wood beamed. Problem was that the emergency fire water pipes were exposed on slanting ceiling, and valve protruded. It took me 2 days to avoid smacking my head on the valve. I suppose the fault was not insisting on another room immediately, so this is perhaps my bad and not the hotel's. They are dealing with an historic building, which has its' limits as well as its' charm.

We enjoyed the claw foot bathtub and the extra space in this superior room. We loved the character and ambiance of this historic hotel. the location was fantastic -- walking distance to so many things, including the old town and train station.
The person checking us in at the front desk did not check that we had prepaid, and charged us again (both us and the other couple we were travelling with). Also know that the elevator does not go to all the floors, and our friends on the upper floor had to walk up the last flight, and their room, while it had two twin beds, was very narrow, and set up like a dormitory, even though it was titled as a Standard Twin Room. this style of room should have another designation, like economy. Breakfast was just ok compared to many of the other hotels in Norway.

Very nice place with kind and helpful staff. The breakfast is excellent, large variety of nice food from cold to warm. The room is very stylish, looks like it was taken out of an Agatha Christie book. The bathroom is nice and clean. Soap, Shampoo and Conditioner is provided. The hotel is right at the harbour and Bryggen, where you can find lovely restaurants, bars and the old town which is beautiful. Also the Fjord criuse trips start from the harbour 2 Minutes away from the hotel. Airport bus stops 1 minute away, airport train is 10 minutes walk away. This town is georgeous and so are its people. I would go back like right now.

Smallish hotel in an a couple of connected old buildings extremely well located near the harbor and fish market. The rooms were nicely set up and comfortable with new bathrooms. Breakfast was very good, maybe a bit basic in terms of options. Location was amazing for visiting Bergen. Near the harbor but didn't feel like it was so close that it impacted our stay. Minimal staff but they were helpful. Very conveniently located to the funicular which is great because you must get there early in the am in order to avoid long, long lines.
Although the rooms are really nice, overall, the hotel could use a little updating in the common areas, such as carpets. Some of the rooms on the top floor are not connected with elevator and require climbing a set of stairs so be sure that is ok before you are booked in one of those rooms. Our room safe wouldn't open which required a last minute, someone stressful scramble to get our locked in passports out in time -- seems it wasn't the first time that safe had locked a guest out. Would have been nice to know that and maybe swap the safe out? That said, the staff handled the problem very fast and got it fixed. Also, the coffee/espresso machine at breakfast didn't work which was a bummer.

We enjoyed the the preservation and design efforts that went into the creation of this lovely hotel/ restaurant. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom was roomy very clean. The breakfast offered an an array of items to eat and prepared us for a busy day of sightseeing. The staff was most helpful in answering our questions. My husband left his Iphone in the men's room on the main floor just before we leaving for our cruise. The gentleman at the dask not only quickly found the phone but ran literally it to the Hurtingruten pier and handed it to my husband! He refused any money and said , " My only payment is that you have a wonderful vacation". Wow, what graciousness! And we did have a wonderful cruise and could take great pictures to preserve our memories. The location was excellent for our walking all around the many wonderful sights of Bergen. We were near the many good eating areas as well, especially the Fish Market.
The only slightly negative point is that we wanted to have a drink in the lovely bar area and no one was around until we went in the back or kitchen area. eventually we did enjoy relaxing in that spot. Our stay in this hotel was before and after our cruise up the western coast of Norway and was it a great choice for our wonderful vacation in Norway1

Best location in city. Near wharf, fish market, tour bus stop. museums and funicular to mountain viewpoint. Interesting use of old grain warehouse converted to hotel. Had great breakfast included. Emphasis on fish for grain trade with Germans which formed the basis for Bergen's success.
Front of building (museum) under construction. Bathroom contained gigantic winch wheel used to haul imported grain up to loft. Apparently it was too big to remove without destroying building/ or Norwegian idea of rustic.

This is one of the most interesting concepts that we have ever experienced in hotels. Located in the old Hanseatic section of Bergen, at the edge of a UNESCO Word Heritage Site, Det Hanseatiske Hotel consists of two reconstructed medieval buildings joined together. Each room is unique in its furnishings. The location is one of the best in all of Bergen, within easy walking distance, measured in only hundreds of meters, from most of the major attractions. The rooms tend to be large, very interestingly decorated, very well-appointed, and clean. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and seemed genuinely interested in us having a pleasant experience. The included breakfast offers a variety of well-prepared options.
We have no complaints. The only suggestion that we have -- and it does not detract from our high satisfaction level -- is to provide a little more lighting coverage in some of the rooms. Our room was on the top floor and very large, but parts of it were unlit. For example, the armoire and the coffee service area were almost completely in the dark. One or two more lamps, or slightly brighter ones would have been better.

The location was excellent, staff was really friendly and breakfast and breakfast hours were also very good. The hotel decor was interesting and lovely. Our only complaint was that was under construction while we were there. It was understandable as it was off season and the workers were very considerate, but it was still a slight inconvenience to get around them. We would stay here again and recommend it once the construction is over.
