Whilst there are a number of little things that could be done to improve the experience, it is certainly somewhere I’d consider coming back to. It is about 30 -40 minutes from Stone Town, the last ten minutes on a dirt track, but sign posted from the main road (if you are in a taxi/Uber). This last bit can get muddy in wet season. The restaurant view is of a creek and boat workshop, but the beach and pool view is idyllic - the photos on booking dot com are accurate. The staff are very attentive and proud of the establishment. Food is simple but well prepared and tasty, they ask you to order at leat an hour ahead. There is no alternative restaurant close by. Breakfast (included) is a buffet with eggs to order, perfectly adequate. The room was basic but very clean, well protected from mosquitos (with nets on the beds and windows) and plenty of power points. The bathroom was surprisingly modern and very clean. The shower is outside with a privacy screen, plenty of hot water if you remember to turn it on. Each cabin s sufficiently isolated and surrounded by vegetation so that privacy is guaranteed , although the are ‘semi detached’ - we had no neighbours during our stay. If travelling as a family this means you can effectively have adjoining rooms. Rooms are air conditioned and quiet. Noting that Mangrove Lodge is significantly cheaper than a lot of other hotels/resorts on the island, it is certainly worth consideration

Mosquitoes were a real issues in the dining area (that also has a relaxing area) and the ‘chill’ zone. Bring repellant. the hotel could consider mosquito coils at meal times. Notably, Wi-Fi is only available in public areas. One point to note is that any card payment, debit or credit, incurs a 5% surcharge. Airport shuttle is a little expensive at $40, but there is little option.

The place is beautiful, beautiful rooms, spacious, clean and confortable. The outside shower is amazing. Great sunset from the beach area ! The staff is extremely kind and friendly! Food was also nice, we always had dinner in the hotel and the dishes were delicious! I personally enjoyed the complimentary masala chai. Just to consider that the hotel is about 40 min distance from Stone Town (due to traffic jams), so transportation could turn expensive.

The excursions and taxis we booked through the hotel, were too expensive. The excursion to Nakupenda bis was too basic, the guys taking us there were far below the average in terms of service compared to the other things we did and booked on our own. The taxi who took us to the southeast side of the island where our 2nd hotel was located was charged 80USD and was booked by the hotel!!! While for coming back from the same area to the airport, we got a price of only 40USD. The price difference was huge! I would strongly recommend anyone to book excursions and taxis on your own.

Perfect for nature lovers, their is so much wildlife amongst the bungalows and its amazing to see and hear. The food was really good. the bungalows were very clean and peaceful with lots of space. the outdoor showers were also very nice and the staff were very helpful.

we were shouted at by the locals on the beach purely because I was a woman swimming in the sea, they crowded round us until we got of the beach which was very uncomfortable. This was very upsetting and sad as a woman should be able to swim in the sea peacefully without being intimidated. - however this was not the hotels problem.

Love the place it was in the middle of the forest then open to a very clean and clear beach. The place was very quiet. The staff were so friendly and very welcoming i felt like staying with a family. It’s a very good choice for solo, couples and families as well. The only problem we had that when the electricity shutdown happened there was a delay in connecting the generator power, despite this is a very common problem in Zanzibar. And one more thing regarding the road to the hotel was not a proper road it takes forever to go in and out. But overall i will come again to this resort. Hope my comment helps you.

This hotel was excellent! It is secluded on many hectares of beautifully maintained tropical property. The food was delicious, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The infinity pool is enormous and steps away from the ocean. The hotel is perfect for relaxation. You get a tremendous amount for a reasonable price. There are a couple of monkeys on the property that are very entertaining. The sunsets every evening were extraordinary. I loved the whole experience. When you arrive on the road to the property, just know it will take about 15 minutes to navigate the very rough road. It takes so long that you will think you are not going in the right direction.

A few guiding signs to the individual villas would help with finding your rental. The owner is charming and very helpful. I found his dogs appeared to be underfed, not well cared for and the number of cats/kittens on the property was getting out of control.

Love the chill room and the food was amazing. Loved the breakfast and the all day access to tea/coffee/drinks. The access to the pool and the private beach was an amazing experience. We loved everything about this property. The truly natural surroundings, the lush greenery, the charming cottages, the central dining area/bar, the pool, the beach all contributed to a wholly satisfying and enjoyable experience

Having access to more drinking water in the room. It was challenging to go the the central area to get water every time we ran out. Other than that, no complaints at all!

The Staff is phenomenal, Nice and are very attentive and eager to help. The Internet quality is good But i rated lower as when you look at room description it says wifi. But the wifi is not in rooms , Only in Communal areas like at the pool or a dinning loundge. When they say Pool with a view...it is not justice. The views from pool or dining area are stunning. But no views from rooms. i liked the tranquility of the lodge, and of the cabins. Nice beach walk.

No wifi in bedrooms. Far from Stone town or just town... Or even far from main road. So each time you wan to go on excursion it's extra 20-50 $ for taxi. Except Spice farm and day boat excursion when they can pick you up at the beach. \THe extra is ok unless you are just 1 to pay the extra for gas.

- The surrounding garden (better: park) is so beautiful and relaxing that I dispensed with my sightseeing plans in order to enjoy every minute possible in this oasis of tranquillity. From the terrace and pool you overlook the ocean (sunset towards the west!) and the beach, which I found empty during the day. In the evening, local friendly youth came for playing football on the beach - it was a great pleasure to watch them with their pure joy. - The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Many thanks to all of them, including the charming owner. - The room was well equipped with effective air-conditioning and ventilator. The bathroom looked freshly refurbished and the best of all was an own new comfortable shower-section outside the bathroom underneath the palmtrees.

If you love natural beauty, beautiful plants, trees and flowers, then this property was a dream come true. I walked around every inch of this property in awe of its beauty. The food and drinks were delicious and nicely priced. The owner had a wealth of knowledge that he shared about Zanzibar and showed us around. He took us to Stone Town and to a Spice tour that was out of this world all while sharing the rich history of where he grew up. Thank you for making this such a great experience for us.

Service was friendly. Food was amazing. Nice pool and very quiet place. The nature is brilliant and feels disconnected to the rest of Zanzibar which was nice!

Location is quite difficult to get to, however this gives it its charm. Very frustrating that the card machine didn't work on checkout. I noticed another guest had the same struggle. I was basically forced to pay cash which was an inconvenience and almost delayed me in catching my ferry. The ocean is lovely but not practical to swim on this part of the island.
