Fantastic hotel. Great location on the seafront. It was lovely having our breakfast looking out over the sea. Room was OK, only criticism was there had been 2 holes in bathroom door which had been patched in but other than that couldn't fault the hotel. The breakfast was very good. Selection of fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, croissants, toast, full Scottish breakfast or you could choose what you wanted, different types of eggs,beans on toast. It also has its own car park but there is a free car park just across the road from the hotel if you can't get in the hotel one. Would definitely recommend the hotel.

I had a last minute trip to pick up some kittens and due to the travel involved required to spend the night before travelling back on trains. I called the hotel to confirm the kittens would be fine which they verified with an extra £10 per pet charge which seemed fine especially given the hotel room cost was already lower than others in the area. I was very pleasantly surprised to see how nice the hotel was. The reception area was nicely decorated and clean. The room itself was great and managed to sleep fine, excluding a wake up call from the kittens. The bathroom was also perfect for giving the kittens some supervised outside of carrier time as no gaps or anywhere for them to damage. Bed was comfy. I only had a brief stay and arrived in dark and left in morning (lots of kitten watching in the bathroom) so did not get a chance to explore the area. It was a 25 minute walk from station which was tricky as few road crossings but taxis only £5 and they have an app you can use for taxis estimates. The sea view I briefly saw in morning and very short walk from hotel.

The views from our room were great. The beach is across the road. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more attentive. There was a lift directly to the floor where my Mother’s room was which was important due to mobility issues. The bar and reception areas are clean and welcoming.

The room was very comfortable and functional with unhindered views across the firth towards Arran. A real delight to sit and have a coffee and look out at after waking up. The room itself though would benefit from some modernisation to bring it into sync with the front of house areas which are modern. Having said that the room was very comfortable, warm and pleasant to stay in and I’d recommend it to family and friends.

Lovely to overlook the sea, only 10 mins from the town and 2 mins to the beach. Beautifully decorated for Christmas and lovely festive menu. Dogs welcome, but not intrusive if you're not a dog parent! Spotlessly clean everywhere and very accommodating staff. Room was toasty and you can control he radiators yourself. Practical shelving in the bathroom amd easy to use shower. Looking forward to returning in the summer for a longer stay.

Pillows needed replacing and mattress a bit lumpy, but not enough to complain about.

Breakfast was amazing, great choice of fresh food. Staff were all very helpful and professional at all times. The restaurant was very attractive and clean, the only negative aspect was that it felt a little stuffy, not enough fresh air. That is why we did not use it for evening meals, preferring to go into town on an evening.

The rooms were very clean but compact, noise from the corridors carried into the rooms, not the hotels fault, just other inconsiderate tourists thinking they were alone in the accommodation.

Tea facilities in the room are plentiful, I was lucky enough to have a sea view and to have free parking off site (literally next door) was also a bonus that in England is rare unless you’re parking on site of your accommodation. Bed was very comfortable.

There was no information about local attractions in the room or time of check out, although it is on reception desk but when you’re very tired you (me) forget, be nice just to have it written somewhere in the room along with a menu choices.

Food was really good…everything available for breakfast and dinner menu had good choice of food. Staff were very polite and helpful throughout the hotel. The bedroom linen and bedroom itself was very clean and towels replaced daily.

The only downside I can mention is the fact that the bedroom was quite small although it was more than adequate for our needs.. we were attending The Open at Troon so didn’t spend a lot of time in the room. Ideal for few nights so probably that’s why we were allocated that room.

This is our third, but certainly not our last, trip to the Horizon. Lovely, clean, well run, quiet hotel with all required facilities. Management and staff are very friendly and welcoming. We have to mention Maggie in the lounge. A very nice young lady. Our room was very comfortable, clean and well serviced. Breakfast was cooked fresh and served to suit many tastes and appetites. We look forward to returning to the Horizon hotel in the near future.

Location , cleanliness and helpfulness of staff

I booked breakfast as per booking website but they didn’t have a note of this , my booking confirmation didn’t seem to stipulate break either but it was definitely booked and when the manager checked the price I paid said that price usually included breakfast but what they got from booking didn’t say breakfast . The manager kindly included breakfast but a bit embarrassing . Not the hotels fault booking.com ‘s error

Lovely hotel in a great location, friendly welcome, stunning reception and bar area, nice breakfast to start the day. We got lucky with the weather too, with a rare visit from the sun!

Unknown to us, there was a show on all weekend, which was attended by thousands and we've turned up the day after the event ended. We assumed the rooms were limited given we were allocated a loft room, which naturally comes with no view. At 6ft 3" in height it was absolutely no use to me! I had to stoop everywhere and barely fitted into the shower! The hotel is lovely though and would still go back, i'd just clarify the room location first next time!
