We received a warm welcome on arrival, and check-in was quick and efficient. After reading the reviews of some other guests, we had been a little concerned about traffic noise from the busy road outside, but our room at the back of the inn was beautifully quiet and welcoming. After over four hours in the car, we wanted to stretch our legs, and our friendly host gave us directions to Plaitford Common, just a short walk up the road, which is a peaceful open space with New Forest ponies grazing. After our walk we returned to the hotel for dinner, and both enjoyed our meals very much and felt the service was very good. We then went back to our room, which had a good shower and very comfortable king sized bed. Perfect for what we needed. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful, with a choice of cereals, juices and toast, excellent coffee and a wide choice of items for a full cooked breakfast. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

A warm welcome as soon as arrived, we were booked to have Sunday lunch before check in , and was given the choice of wether to eat or check in as room was ready for us, landlady very welcoming and friendly , as were other staff , food was delicious and good value for money , as was the inclusive breakfast the following morning ,lovely courtyard to sit outside , large carpark and own keys to excess rooms if pub not open ( steep stairs to access this though), complimentary toiletries provided

Having stayed before and as mentioned , the pub is on a very busy road , so expect noise , room 2 was very hot due to weather but fan provided . Room is small but also clearly stated , not disabled friendly unfortunately, as steep steps to get to rooms , and due to age of pub, floors uneven in the corridor to rooms

The staff at the Shoe Inn were great. They welcomed us and made us feel right at home during our stay. Dinner and breakfast (included) were both excellent. Dinner prices were very reasonable and the food was much better than traditional pub fare.

The corridor connecting the pub with the rental rooms was not very clean or well signed. It gives guests the wrong impression upon arrival, since the rental rooms themselves are very nice - clean and bright. The rooms facing the main road are a bit noisy from traffic, but that's to be expected. The rooms facing the back courtyard were quiet.

Felt safe, cosy and secure which is everything as a solo female traveller. The lady who greeted me and looked after me and my little dog was the perfect host. Food was absolutely delicious, it was a stormy evening and this inn was perfect as a pit stop for the night. Entry was easy and could self serve with no issue coming in and out. Parking was free which is always an added bonus.

It is on a main road, not an issue just a pre-warning if you have dogs with you, be careful and keep them on the leash 😁

We stayed at The Shoe for three nights and enjoyed ourselves very much. Our room, though quite small, was well appointed and comfortable. The restaurant food, both breakfast and dinner, was excellent. The staff were all friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We will certainly return, if we need to stay in that part of Hampshire again,

The pub is on the busy A36, and whilst the traffic noise didn't worry us or keep us awake, it might be an issue for some. There are bedrooms at the rear too so paying extra for a garden-facing room might be worthwhile.

My stay was really nice, welcomed by the host with a smile as soon as we walked in, our room was a small double which was very clean and comfortable. We ate dinner in the pub which was absolutely delicious and breakfast the next day which was just as tasty. The pub itself is only a small place but had a lovely warm and cozy feel to it.

The pub is on a road that I didn't realise would be quite as busy as it was and being in a front room heard traffic all night. This was the only negative thing about my stay but all the positives out weigh this, I would definitely stay again just in one of the back rooms or wear ear plugs in bed.

The Shoe Inn is a typical country pub. Squeaky floor boards, nothing matched. However the welcome was warm and friendly. The room was just big enough. The bed was comfy and warm. The bathroom was clean and good towels. There was tea and coffee making facilities. The evening meal was delicious and hearty . Good choice of menu and freshly cooked. The breakfast was huge and hot. Check in and out very easy and straightforward. Would definitely stay here again.

The bathroom was very cold and my husband had to adjust the settings. It is on a busy road but we knew that so not too bad . It quitend down in the evening.

Breakfast was beautifully cooked and plentiful. Evening meal also exceptional. Also liked how the receptionist/bar tender was so willing and helpful.

The only downside was the bedroom was in the eave’s area and was somewhat smaller than we would have liked. (Husband caught his head on the slanted ceiling a couple of times). However, we did request a back room because we’d read it was noisy at the front because the inn was on a main road.

Staff are lovely couldn't do enough to make us welcome and comfortable. Friendly and accommodating as well. Double Room at the back was quiet - got a good nights sleep very comfy bed. Great location in terms of proximity to the New Forest which is beautiful, and it you go in October you can see pigs out rooting for acorns - its called Pannage apparently. Food was good.

The location of this old staging Inn is on a very busy road - it could be quite hard to leave the car park as the traffic could be heavy particularly on work days. Maybe could have done with another couple of pillows. Would certainly stay again.

very friendly reception from Sarah on our arrival. We arrived 15mins before kitchen was due to close but Sarah cheerfully accommodated us and we enjoyed some excellent food ,,,,,and plenty of it too at a reasonable price. Free parking in their private carpark was a bonus. A big thank you to both Sarah and husband Andy for making our one night stay so pleasant.
