This is a genteel traditional hotel that still maintains high standards for its guests. Many of the guests rooms are quite beautifully furnished with top quality bedding, towels, refreshments and so on. There is a communal lounge, an excellent bar where there are snacks, full meals and drinks available. Breakfast is truly excellent quality and flavoursome. The staff are excellent, well chosen, kind, polite, helpful and so warm and friendly. We loved everything about this hotel. It is slightly dated, but that is a significant part of its old world charm!

Bigger lounge with a few more easy chairs.

Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was fresh. Vegetarian sausages were lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful Christmas decorations were lovely.

There were no soft furnishings in the 'lounge' of the flat, like cushions or throws. This made it feels somewhat stark. The lift was a bit hit and miss in terms of working due to the cage not being fully shut, so most of the time we had to use stairs, which didn't pose a massive problem for us, but might have if we had limited mobility. Carrying our cases up the stairs was tricky. The room numbering system was very random, leading to confusion and getting lost.

Amazing historical building close to Opera House, Pavilion gardens, mineral spa baths and local pubs, eateries and shops. Fantastic lady on reception and friendly staff throughout. Great food in the bar and restaurant. Comfortable and homely lounge area with wonderful views of the park. Parking immediately outside the hotel.

Our room was lovely and recently refurbished but a little smaller than expected. Being an older building there are creaky floorboards and plumbing noises but this can't be helped - just worth taking note if you're a light sleeper.

I have stayed in this hotel a number of times over the years mainly because of its close proximity to the Opera House. Since my last stay the rooms have been upgraded and mine was well appointed with a double aspect and a lovely view. I slept very well as the bed was comfortable. The staff on reception were helpful and friendly.

There now seems to be piped music in the public areas and on Sunday morning this was rock music - somewhat inappropriate for a classical music festival clientele. There is also a smell of cooking. Breakfast was OK but not of the standard it used to be. Eggs had obviously been sitting for some time on the hotplate so the yokes were hard.

We stayed in the family suite which was excellent: spacious, very comfy beds and lovely bathroom. It was clean throughout. TVs in bedrooms and the sitting area were appreciated. The receptionists and bar staff were really helpful, especially in facilitating room service so we could watch the football. Apparently it's not something they usually do but they offered without fuss - and we were right at the top of the hotel. Thank you.

The breakfast room was light and airy but the rest of the public rooms were well past the time for re-furbishment. It would be better if reception was moved to the front of the hotel. There wasn't a great choice for breakfast but what we had was tasty.

Lovely old hotel in a great location. Close to restaurants, bars and shops and opposite beautiful pavilion and park. Comfortable, clean very friendly staff.

It could do with a bit of TLC Some rooms do look a bit dated and need freshening up. We have stayed before but the breakfast wasn’t very nice this time. It was all a bit baked up from being under the hot plates and the quality of the food wasn’t as good. Shame really. It Wouldn’t take much effort to make this an amazing place to stay.

Great location, with lots of character. stayed for one night. Very friendly team and super breakfast. Lovely views across park whilst eating breakfast. They sorted a car park ticket for £6 for 24hours and we got space right outside. Stayed in room 20 which had recently been refurbished. Very clean.

Could have done with an extra sheet to use on bed instead of the duvet, as the room was too warm for us. Room was very bright at night, maybe consider blackout blinds or curtains. White blinds were lovely but didn’t help keep light out. Screen for shower swung open a couple of times and hit the bathroom door handle with some force, was worried it would smash. Probably needs a stopper fitting somewhere to make it safe.

Fantastic hotel right next to the opera house. All the staff were superb from checking in and helping us with the parking, in the wine bar, and at breakfast, which had a great choice and was delicious. We will stay again the next time we're in Buxton.

Not the hotels fault in any way, but some inconsiderate guests decided to have a get-together for a loud chat on the seating in the corridor outside our room from around 12am until 2am. And despite been asked to shut up, which they eventually did. One came back a little later and had a 30 min phone conversation.

The location and character of the building’ old world charm’ Room lovely with a nice view. Large walk in shower, plenty of tea bags and large mugs!

The breakfast was not up to standard. Went down just after 9 a.m. and no orange juice left and no more to come. All serving dishes were down to the last scrapings. Odd things were replaced but people had to wait a long time and what food they had on their plate was going cold. Waiter served fresh pots of tea and coffee and tables were beautifully presented, however. I would have appreciated some fresh fruit and perhaps some individual pots of yogurt. The service for evening meals was rather slow and presumably there are some staff issues as there has never been a problem in previous visits. This will not prevent me from staying in the Old Hall again.

The rooms were comfortable and really warm especially at night. The showers were lovely and hot, there were plenty of clean towels available as well. The breakfast was fabulous, with a good selection of fruit as well as a fantastic cooked breakfast, the evening dinners were excellent. The food was cooked to perfection and very tasty. The cleaners came everyday including Christmas Day which we were impressed with. We also loved sitting in the lounge and relaxing over drinks. It was a good memorable Christmas! Alistair the Manager was a wonderful host. The staff members were excellent and very helpful. We liked the nostalgic look about the place and the atmosphere.

The television in the bedroom was pixelized a lot so sometimes we couldn't watch TV properly, but once we fiddled around with it , it came back on.Please do something about this. One of the sofas in the lounge was far too dent and worn out, it needs replacing.( where the Christmas tree was). The breakfast times could be extended to 11am instead of just 10am. The check out times could also be extended to 12 noon.
