Exceptional value for money. Great location. Enjoyed the pool and leisure facilities. 3 course evening meal included was plentiful, tasty and offered reasonable choice. Breakfast was excellent. The Hotel had a nice friendly vibe. It is no longer the top class, luxury establishment it must have been in its heyday but if it was I wouldn't be able to afford to stay here so I am grateful for that.

My room was a bit jaded and dark with no view and the bathroom fittings were old and worn- but it was spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable so no real problems, just an observation. The staff were friendly, polite and obliging but did seem a bit short handed and pushed at times which impeded the service somewhat. I don't think they should charge residents for parking.

We were very impressed with everything in our experience; we were especially impressed when we received exceptional customer service from Leah, Ewan and David E and we want to say that these three lovely and friendly staff members are a credit and a positive asset to the Palace Hotel, and management should be very proud of them. They ensured that Angela's birthday was amazing, so we want to thank them for that very much.

The Palace Hotel is a very special place for Angela and it's perfect to her, she absolutely loves it, but the only thing we felt could be improved are the creaking floorboards, but we appreciate that as it's a very old beautiful building over 150 years-old, it's to be expected. Other than this, the upgraded room was fabulous and it made Angela's special day out of this world, she didn't want to leave!

Lovely location and huge hotel

The walk from reception to the room we were allocated was quite a hike (300m) up a flight of stairs then through doors along a corridor through another door down 3 steps a few mtrs then up 3 steps up a very tight set of steps that turned back on its self half way up, through a door which brought you to a corridor which our room was situated on, not an ideal place to have a very small room which was actually a upgrade from a "compact room" stated when we booked, if I booked again I would request a room nearer to the reception, apart from all that😅 lol the hotel was excellent.

We came down at 9 on the first morning as I was assisting my hubby to get food and a cup of coffee by the time I went to get my breakfast the hot food was taken away.

We tried to book dinner for our last night on the Wed. As my daughter has a wheat allergy we asked if they could tell us what would be on the menu. We were told that the menu would be out at 4pm . We went into reception at 4.10 and were then told that they could not tell us till 5.30 I have never heard of a restaurant not knowing what they are serving for dinner at 5-6 pm.

1) the room. I was allocated a room overlooking the very noisy ventilation system for the spa area. This system runs 24/7 and is not turned off at night. I asked for a change and this was provided to a room I really liked - thank you. 2) breakfast buffet was excellent offering a wide range of options. 3) evening meals could be purchased in parts, so one could have a starter and dessert, or just the main course, for example. 4) the location and the availability of parking makes this an ideal starting point for exploring the Peak district. 4) friendly helpful staff.

Despite hard thinking, I have nothing to say!

The Palace Hotel is old school grandeur with appropriate modern additions. We loved it from the moment we stepped inside. The staff were friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Even at 2am when I needed an ice pack for a broken toe! (Broken before I arrived) we had a basic double room and the beds were crisp, clean and comfortable, the bathroom facilities sparkling and the room was equiped with everything you might need. Parking was plentiful and within the green and well cared for grounds. We will be booking again and would highly recommend this lovely hotel. I can't add photos as we didn't take any. We're old school and just took memories!

There was nothing we didn't like!

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 2 nights (9th > 11th September 23) for the first time; we both said that we'd definitely stay again in the future.

I'm nit picking here but I paid the extra £15 for a late check out (12noon) so didn't expect the room attendants knocking on the door at 9:30am, I explained that I'd booked the late check out and she said we wasn't on the list but the receptionist did put it on the screen because I asked on arrival, paid the £15 and the receptionist entered it on the screen. But that's probably a system error and didn't affect our opinion off this hotel almost top marks.

The location is perfect, just a minute or two walk from the town centre and right next to the train station and onsite parking. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The building is well maintained for such an old and large place. Breakfast was good. The pool is nice and just the right temperature. The gardens were a lovely place to sit after breakfast or with a nightcap in the evening.

The same as the Britannia hotel in Manchester, the booking in process takes much longer than it needs to, resulting in very long queues at reception. The lady who booked us in was lovely and coped extremely well with the pressure, but there was a lot of tension in the queue because it takes so long. This could definitely be streamlined.

I requested a room close to the lift (due to arthritis)...which I got....turned out to be one I had stayed in previously (213), which I liked....then I walked in. Wow!!! it had a refurb...loved it!!! Lovely spot located beside both train station and bus stop (bus from Buxton - Manchester Airport), within a few minutes you can explore, shop, eat, have fun in this beautiful spa town... Nice spa/salon, with good spa packages available, the only downside are the stairs ...but as its such a beautiful old hotel, it can't be helped... When I was seated in the lobby, a gentleman asked about getting tea (it was just between the time when breakfast finished and the bar opened), the lad on reception, explained this, but said he would see if he could. Kudos to him he did...last year, when I stayed, I gave a lower score, due to both getting attitude myself and others too from some of the staff...this year, higher scores...

The wifi...majority of hotels these days have it in guest rooms
