The hotel is finished to a lovely standard, especially for the price. The facilities at the hotel are good. Beds were comfortable. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. The food at Nelsons is really nice and reasonably priced. The grounds around the hotel are beautiful. There was a lovely calming smell around the hotel which I'm assuming came from the spa area.

The pool was quite cold when you first get in but not too bad after a while. Could possibly be improved by having a heated pool.

We've been to the hotel on numerous occasions and love it. The standard of the entrance is immaculate with lovely decor x

The foods weren't up to scratch in the Nelson pub restaurant. However, it may have been a one-off, as usually their meals are superb 👌. Our room was deluxe room, however didn't meet up with the usual experience we had as they were immaculate rooms. The smoke alarm device on the ceiling kept flashing on and off all night? Which kept me awake. the mini bar were empty? We had two complimentary bottles of water. Nevertheless, this may have been a one-off as we still love the hotel and definitely will be visiting again.

Lovely decor and very spacious room. Great bathroom with separate bath and wet room. Loved having a TV above the bath to relax in. The hotel itself is very nice and clean with great decor. The two restaurants were very good with great food in the Nelson and the. Plenty to choose from at breakfast buffet I the Palm Court. The spa facilities were very good, maybe looking a little tatty around the edges but still very good. My wife had a massage and said it was probably one if the best ones she's had and the lady clearly knew exactly what to do. Overall we didn't want to leave and just felt very relaxed.

The property is one of the loveliest we have encountered on this trip to the UK. However it began on a very sour, unexpected and uncalled for note of unwelcome from the receptionist we came to identify as Hayley. She was on the plus one side of being rude and curt towards my husband checking us in, citing “the information is in the room” to 3 of his questions regarding the spa, breakfast and check out. How inconsiderate of us to bother her? Not withstanding (both my husband and I are 5star property hoteliers in Asia/Pacific) the hotel is exquisite in its interiors, facilities and sense of “arrival” for all guests there. Mr/Mrs Nelson, you should be extremely proud of this rare and precious gem you lovingly share with Cheshire. The pool and spa areas were of a surprisingly high standard we did not expect. Similarly on the flip side, we were taken aback as was the cold and disengaged receptionist at the spa counter. This property clearly offers so much more in the physical and aesthetics aspects of hospitality than in the personal and human interaction part of it. Breakfast was outstanding in all it offerings. Both the restaurant and the Tavern were wonderful dining venues with a delightful menu offering. The saving grace to our overall memory of our stay was lovely Imogen checking us out and being everything we know what hospitality is all about: warm, genuine, kind and friendly.

The few cold, uninterested, and impolite staff members we encountered in reception, the spa, housekeeping and restaurant. Were they so severely short staffed?

Property was spacious, clean and well appointed - the rooms and beds were large and the breakfast was excellent. The staff were lovely and the leisure facilities were clean and adequate (the pool was a bit small for comfort if there were lots of people at the same time) good bus links for Chester and Wrexham and the bar/restaurant were pretty good.

Not much to dislike really. The restaurant was lovely to be in for breakfast but the price for the evening meal put us off going there over the bistro restaurant. However, the food options were good so it depends on what your budget prefers.

So pleasantly surprised - reception, restaurant, spa and gardens gorgeous Dinner in palm court lovely and even a small issue with my hubby’s meal was handled extremely efficiently and professionally - thank you!

Minor negative but think you need to hear. In the hotel bar area the football was on mid afternoon with reasonable volume level. However, on returning early evening pre dinner in palm court, boxing match on bar tv and volume was ridiculously loud. However, as soon as we highlighted this, it was very promptly rectified. We just felt this was not conducive with the hotel setting!

The service in palm court was amazing as was the food at both dinner and breakfast. The hotel itself and rooms were beautiful decor and finish, the smell around the corridors was lovely and every little detail had been thought of.

The spa was a little disappointing as the changing rooms and spa area look a little dated and older fashioned compared to the rest of the hotel. The swimming pool was cold and the spa treatment I had, 25 mins back massage was as if it was speedy delivery, get the people in and out again. So it did take the edge of what I hoped would be a fully relaxing experience.

The bedrooms were outstanding, particularly the superior double room. They had all the facilities you could need and were very comfortable and well designed. They gave me inspiration for my own bedroom. The superior room was beautifully finished and very well styled. The Palm Court restaurant is fantastic. The food was amazing and the hotel clearly have some very good chefs. The design of the restaurant as well is perfect for a feeling of class and comfort. The live piano music perfectly fitted the restaurant and had been clearly thought about to add to the ambiance. It's nice to see restaurant owners that think about the importance of all the senses for a complete dining experience. The breakfast options were vast and great. You could be as healthy or unhealthy as you want and still get a very complete meal. Serving it in the Palm Court restaurant meant getting to experience the wonderful space again. The reception staff, while extremely busy, were as efficient and helpful as they possibly could be. The spa area was wonderful and very relaxing and the staff were very accommodating, given they were clearly busy with a wedding on the day we were there.

Given the size of the hotel (deceptively large) it would have been nice to have easier access to the car park from the end not near reception. At check-in, due to a wedding party also checking-in there was a bit of chaos. Perhaps the check-in of wedding guests and standard guests could be separated. I felt I was in the middle of a wedding party which I was not invited to and was hoping for a peaceful arrival and check-in. Luckily the wedding reception itself was in a separate area. The heating in the standard room was not very efficient and one of the ducts did not work. These are all minor things which could elevate an exceptional hotel even higher.

The staff were professional and welcoming especially on reception The building is lovely particularly the palm court dining area. The pool, spa etc is 4 star plus although the pool could be a bit warmer. It was refreshing that our room accommodated my husband and myself plus our three children.

Would prefer not to comment anything negative regarding this hotel but the only thing myself and my family were not completely happy with was the tea and coffee selection in the room although there was plenty. We have booked to return and will bring our own.

Absolutely stunning venue. Gorgeous room and delightful staff who went out of their way to make us feel right at home as well as being kind enough to pop a little treat in our room for my partner’s birthday! My partner had a 70 minute long full body massage and said it was by far the best he’d ever had. The room was massive and very well appointed and the bar / breakfast room was beautifully decorated.

The mattress wasn’t as comfortable as I’d have liked but literally everything else was perfect.
