What I like is that this is a hotel that still provides excellent service, as an example tea/coffee and toast and full breakfast if you choose one, are served by the friendly and efficient staff (unlike most hotels these days in my recent experience where you have to make you own tea and wait ages to lightly brown the toast on a hot toasting machine.) Long may this excellent service last in the Lansdowne! The hotel is situated in the quieter end of the sea-front with a lovely green opposite, near to the theatres, art gallery, tennis courts, within walking distance of the Italian Gardens and Beachy Head, and the nearest hotel to the ferris wheel, a summer-time landmark that you can't miss! All the staff smile and greet you in passing. The sea-view lounges are exceptionally comfortable and are great places to either send a few emails (if you have to), read books or papers, meet friends and enjoy cream teas in the afternoon.

Pillows could be a little softer, but I didn't ask for them to be changed.

The hotel is, in our opinion, in the perfect location, by the seafront on the West side of Eastbourne. The breakfast was very good. There are extensive lounge areas to sit in. The room facilities were fine.

We found the restaurant prices for dinner a little on the expensive side. The bedroom was very hot, but we should add that we were staying during a heatwave. One minor gripe is that the hotel champions its concern for sustainability, a concern we share, and like many, says it will only change towels if they are left on the floor. Despite never leaving our towels on the floor, the towels were always changed every day.

Great view from room 231 onto Western Lawn and Ferris Wheel as well as the sea. Lovely lobby and several lounges on ground floor. Nice bar on-site. Very clean and lovely staff. Well located away from centre/station but close to beach and sightseeing bus stop. Nice single room, had everything needed and not too small.

Bathroom in rm 231 is pretty dated (think early 1990s) but clean. The folder in the room could do with being spell check, reprinted and hole-punched properly. Walls were little thin so heard some chat from neighbours. Bed was very soft/springy. Water stain on emergency exit directions on back of door (minor thing I know)

Have stayed several times before. The staff are excellent. Particularly liked Rose, breakfast supervisor, and Helen and Joel in the bar. Helen actually remembered how many ice cubes I had in my drink!

The breakfast is self-service with those heated trays but, as is common with those, they do not keep the food hot. Hence cold fried egg and lukewarm scrambled eggs - even though I gave them a stir. I didn't want to wait around for a remake. Disappointing. Some other guests had no decorum. Liked the hotel before it was refurbished as it had more character, but I must say they have done it well.

Breakfast was exceptional. Travelling alone I never once felt lonely even sitting alone in the restaurant as staff checked on me and there were lovely niches in the lounges where I could be left alone to read. The staff work exceptionally hard and nothing is too much trouble. The position of the hotel was perfect for walking the South Downs and particularly Seven Sisters and Beachy Head. Which amazingly I achieved then back to relax with lots of hot water and a lovely deep bath. I also used the shower and was amazed at the water pressure even on the third floor. Free parking nearby in the Winter and I understand hotel provides passes in the high season although I didn’t have to use these. Free to come and go from bedroom whenever you like which is important with fluctuating energy levels as in some hotels you feel the expectation is to stay out all day. Coffee and tea making facilities in the room but also lovely coffees ( and lots of other drinks!) at the bar!

Bottom of tiles in bathroom were a bit grubby but I think I had an older room. Also window catch didn’t work (3 floors up) and it opened really wide!! Great for me for views but dangerous if a child was in there.

Nothing was too much trouble for all the staff. Very friendly and helpful. The food is amazing very good choices and excellent quality. There was plenty of choices at breakfast too. The bed was very comfortable and our room was fabulous.

I don't think all the rooms have been refurbished, our first room was very dated with a sliding door in the bathroom which became a problem but it was sorted out very quickly. Also this room had a shower over the bath which was very deep, we were expecting a walk in shower. We were moved straight away to a lovely room with a sea view it was beautiful.

Just about everything, ideal location, ideal spot for the airshow, visiting family and friends. The double room was perfect a little bit dated but expected as it is an old hotel, but we slept fairly well on both nights, a wee bit stuffy but it was rather hot outside when we stayed there, so there is a fan provided and can open windows. The breakfast and meals were perfect, good chef plus the drinks in the restaurant as well as the bar. The staff was exceptional they could not do more for you. Excellent. The only downfall is the parking but it is always the case when there is a special event on at the time. Needed this break badly, very enjoyable, and did us a world of good, thank you. Yes definitely recommend it.

Nothing to state, all good.

Breakfast was well cooked and plenty of choice We were able to have afternoon tea in one of the rooms downstairs and service was excellent

Our only complaint was the attitude of the young barman on duty early evening. He was indolent and unfriendly and clearly did not enjoy his job ! Everything seemed an effort and our three drinks were spread across the bar instead of all together. When I asked for a lager he gave no choice or options on what was available so I ended up with a drink I didn’t really want We felt he really let the staff team down as everyone else was so friendly

Friendly helpful staff. Lovely room with view. Very Comfortable nights sleep. Almost perfect apart from shower experience.... see below

We asked for a shower for person needing accessible facilities but water impossibly hot. There is a warning but No adjustment to temperature possible and couldn't find any means of switching overhead shower to handheld shower attachment. So elderly mother couldn't use it at all and even I, (I usually love a hot shower) couldn't stand underneath and had to wash by standing to the side. This was a huge shame as otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay but it could be the deal breaker which would send us somewhere else if we want to stay in Eastbourne again. In every other way, very satisfied.

We loved the location it was perfect for nearby walks to Beachy head or towards town and the pier, breakfast was delicious, the staff were lovely and the room was very comfortable... a great size and we had lovely sea views.

Our room was perfect apart from the fact it did get really hot. I think if the windows opened sideways and not up/down more air would get in. Reception gave us an extra fan. We were seaside side so probably a room facing the back didn't have the sun all day and wouldn't be hot but the view was worth the heat!
