The room was clean & spacious as was the ensuite bathroom. Julie & Chris were excellent hosts, welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was just so delicious 😋😋😋 & copious with plenty of choice.

Nothing, everything was great for me. Maybe being allowed to stay till 11am rather than 10am on departure would mean less of a rush in the last morning.

We had an excellent stay at the Southgate. The rooms were beautiful and the family room was enormous! The owners were friendly and helpful and everything was clean and super comfortable.

The only criticism I have is that we did not notice the signs telling us we could not bring in our own food so these could do with being more prominent. With this in mind, I would suggest to anyone visiting the property that they make sure they have made arrangements to eat out.

The building was attractive and quaint, with a lovely lounge and comfortable furnishings. Like many old English buildings, the stairs were small and the bathroom small too--but quite useable nonetheless. Our room was very comfortable, quiet, cozy, and welcoming. Our room overlooked the main street of the village! The hosts were quite hospitable and made a wonderful English breakfast the next morning. Good job Chris and Julie!

Many years since we've stayed in a B & B and The Southgate didn't disappoint. We arrived mid afternoon and were greeted by both Julie & Chris and after introducing themselves asked what we would like for breakfast the following day. We we're shown to our room which was exceptionally clean and nicely decorated. We had a comfortable two night stay and would not hesitate to recommend The Southgate to anyone staying in the Filey area. 10/10

The breakfast offering was very good indeed. Well cooked and hot. The whole place is spotless. Staff are very friendly indeed. Comfortable good quality bed. Powerful spacious shower which was a pleasure to use.

The bedroom could have done with heavier curtains or a blackout blind. We couldn’t make it dark enough to sleep well with street lights over the road. It was a hot day when you only really need a sheet so a thick duvet is all or nothing. Bathroom very tight for space.

The breakfast was very good and the location was very handy for pubs and local shops. We used the co-op in the village which was close by. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and the bedroom had a excellent shower room.

The room was very small so no room for an easy chair which would have been nice. There was no outside space to sit in the sun.

An extremely friendly welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Bedroom spotless and modern. Breakfast brilliant. Loved the concept of an honesty bar which was absolutely reasonable and we used it to end our day with a bottle of wine with our friends. Would highly recommend to families and couples alike

Very friendly welcome from hosts again that is why I returned; spotlessly clean, excellent breakfast, happy atmosphere.

Parking this time was a slight problem as the village was very busy; but later in the evening it was possible to park directly in the road outside.

Firstly, Chris & Judy give you welcome as if they had known you for year’s. From entering their front door the cleanliness was immaculate. The decor was bright, fresh and beautifully designed. The rooms were all of the above and more, great size too, with a huge double shower that gave instant hot water and soft white towels that felt like being dried by angels with fluffy clouds. So, if that wasn’t enough for our stay. Let’s get to the part everyone remembers, The Breakfast…choice of cereal, yogurt, juices etc was outstanding - but the full English Breakfast is to die for (pardon the pun Chris & Judy). The food was cooked to perfection, the portion sizes were again, perfect and the quality of the food was to a vey high standard. To sum up; The location is beautiful, once in this B & B you feel like you have entered a 5* plus, establishment - but with the welcome and atmosphere of entering your best friends home. Finally Chris & Judy, a very big thank you for everything you did for myself, wife and friends. Also I hear you are no longer ‘ambulance virgins’. So, from my wife & I THANK YOU and I’m back home and feeling a tad better.

After you have read the above, you will understand when I say, we cannot fault a single moment of our stay at The Southgate B & B because from entering to leaving you have no reason to look.

After touring up and down the country for a week staying in different locations, the Southgate was head and shoulders above the rest. We arrived earlier than the check in time, this was no problem for Chris and Julie. The place on setting foot inside the door had the wow factor. Immaculately presented throughout. Warm and friendly, good food and service, extremely comfortable room which you could smell airfreshners where ever you walked. Shower was powerful and didn't want to get out.
