The location is excellent: secluded and picturesque yet within easy reach of town centre. The free parking is a great bonus. Staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The public areas were comfortable and the bar menu was excellent value and quality.

Nothing much comes to mind. The Shears Inn is a public house and there is obviously some customer traffic. However this is not intrusive, does not continue late, and the accommodation is separate from the bar and lounge.

Love the quirky, sloped rooms, food is excellent and staff are helpful and friendly. Location is great - park the car, check in, have a drink or lunch then and head to the centre of Halifax about 10 minutes away.

It was very warm during our stay so a top sheet on the bed (so we could throw off the quilt) would have been great as would glasses for water during the night.

Large bedroom with ensuite shower. Nice but could be better with a fresh coat of paint. Large parking area Quiet and peaceful Lovely range of good food. WiFi good connection rate. Very near centre of Halifax Staff very friendly

Had to ask for heating to be put on at night. They did it right away. TV kept loosing signal every ten minutes seems to be a common fault. Town centre was nice to walk to but the steep hills on way are too much for me. Difficult to find the inn.

We had the small breakfast . It was a full English, very tasty and filling. We didn't need lunch! It was extremely good value for money. This place is in a beautiful location. Hidden away but we'll signposted. So quiet and peaceful so great night's sleep on comfortable bed. Extra pillows were no problem. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Plenty of drawers and wardrobe space. Bathroom is a little tight but the two of us managed well and could even get in the shower together! This is a great place and brilliant value for money.

Everything was great so nothing I didn't like.

it’s a perfectly clean little gem of traditional Yorkshire Hospitality at its’ best. The Walmsey family, very rightly, take huge pride in their quiet, quaint, perfectly located by a gently running stream, woodland and former mill-buildings, huge-car park, establishment. Paul, the Landlord, is of the old-school who knows “well maintained cellars, casks, and clean pumps” are vital. He has deservedly won the Marque Beer Award (supported by two of the best local breweries: Timothy Taylor and Carlsberg Marston’s). And he works 24/7 to maintain his impeccably clean bar. Paul’s Mum Tracy runs the kitchen. We booked in yesterday for one night only, but Tracy is one of the few cooks I know who can cook a better breakfast than I can make myself! Gillian, the Housekeeper can clean. When we arrived at 7pm last night I could see the bar was squeaky-clean. The Ladies was as clean as my own bathrooms at home. And our bedroom was deep-clean (not “superficially clean”. Before I even unpacked last night I instantly increased our bedroom reservation to four nights - and a week after Christmas Day (when they are shut to enjoy their own Family Christmas). Thank you Paul’s Auntie Janet for swiftly recognising that this solved even more problems for me than she knew I had. I’d actually been rushed into the local hospital from the previous local hotel we’d made the mistake of booking into 8 nights ago. GO NOT GO NEAR THE (supposed 3* “Wool Merchant Hotel, Halifax, unless you want to stay in a 20th Century Fawltry Towers managed by Micky Mouse, “cleaned” by three dirty mice, whose main male Receptionist either has ASD - so is in completely the wrong job - or is intrinsically one of the rudest, most obstructive, unkind people I have ever had the misfortune to meet. His only skill is creative writing/accounting. He single-handedly cooked up an Account that he had already (without my explicit consent, overcharged by more than £300!).

Nothing. It’s perfect.

Lovely room, very comfy bed & good shower, quiet despite rooms being above a pub

As a solo traveller walking from the railway station the location was a little out of the way for me especially when I was returning after 11pm after being to a concert in the city centre, the road was dark & very quiet but a little unnerving. I should have caught a taxi back but decided to walk, think if I stayed again I would make sure I got a taxi. This was my choice so not a bad review as such just wanted to highlight for people who do not drive

Quirky little pub, very old and extremely good value. Had dinner and breakfast and both were excellent. I had read previous and got nervous, but no idea where they were coming from. Staff were very polite and we had good service all round.

It's noisy when the pub is open but that shows its popular

Good location, hidden away below an old mill & a river and accessed via a cobbled road. No more than 15 minutes walk into the centre of town. Very quiet nights sleep. Welcoming & friendly staff. Room was small & compact, but was clean & comfortable. Pub has 6 cask ales & a good food menu. Full Breakfast was extra, large, freshly cooked & of quality ingredients. Free parking, free wi-fi. Good shower.

Bathroom was very small & compact, but otherwise all was fine.

Perfect little place for a night after a gig at the Piece Hall. A 10 minute walk from the venue, plenty of car parking space, lovely and quiet. Our room was fab, plenty of space for 2, with a small but perfectly useable en suite. A bit dusty but then it is a very old building. Freesat TV, tea & coffee, toiletries, lovely clean bedding. Lovely friendly staff, a nice evening meal and a fab full English breakfast in the pub itself. Far exceeded all our expectations for the £45 price tag!

Nothing - it was fab!

Great location, short walk to the centre, and nice and quiet. The staff were great and very welcoming and the breakfast was top notch.

The towel radiator was permanently on. In winter this would be great, but mid summer it's not!
