The rooms were clean and comfortable. Clearly well loved and had great character! Some furniture could be newer but didn't detract from the lovely room. The room was very generously sized with comfy beds. The TV was a good size. The windows were openable - too many hotels lock them. A door was left open downstairs for ease of access at any time, and the 11am checkout time was generous. Far easier than 10 am! The breakfasts were comfortably spaced, 7 - 9 am on weekdays, 8 - 10 am on weekends. There was a useful "guest info" manual for FAQs. The hotel was an 8 minute drive (when traffic allowed) from a major town and a 5 minute walk - you could see the national Trust car park from the hotel - from the devil's punchbowl itself. The bath was a nice size and the tea and biscuits in the room were good. The towels were large, clean, and changed regularly. The proximity to roads and rail was great. The staff are incredible. As a first-time solo traveller for longer than an overnight stop, they made me feel so welcome. The adjoining restaurant and bar were brilliant. The best value for money in the local area, with an amazing chef. I can't praise the food highly enough. Breakfast was good. The servers were friendly and helpful. As I was coming in late some evenings, there were plenty of other restaurants open late and/or when the restaurant was shut. The Indian "Bay leaf" was recommended to me by a staff member and was excellent and walkable (20 mins). The hotel isn't luxury in the way of a spa or having a pool, but it's a comfortable, pleasant, and relaxing base with good food and all the amenities you actually need to explore the south downs and beyond. There's plenty of parking, walking routes and public transport. A huge thank you again to the wonderful staff. I'd definitely stay again!!!

If i was splitting hairs to find faults, the black tea selection could be broader, and the vegetarian breakfast vegetable portions (tomatoes and mushrooms etc) could be bigger. Nothing else detracted in any way from the stay. (And the tea thing was my own fault for not bringing a few tea bags and a small pot with me.)

Very clean comfortable room, the bed was clean & we slept really well, the staff were all excellent & helpful especially Emmy with some dietary issues we had with a meal one evening. Great location right next to the Devols Punchbowl Park..

The hotel is old & is what itnis however it needs a serious decoration internally & there were some cracked tiles & windows & a good freshen up would really make it great. The breakfast was nice & we prepaid but some other options like pastries & cereal (included) would've been nice....other hotels have a choice as well as cooked. The evening meal we had was good but a little overpriced....these are just little things but a for a bit of thought & not much expense can make this hotel brilliant

Great location for what we needed. Our room was right at the top and was absolutely adorable! Extremely comfortable bed and fab telly which was handy as we were watching Eurovision!. We had a great evening meal and the staff were lovely. It's not the Ritz - it's shabby round the edges and dated in places but that gave it charm! We loved it!

Unfortunately our only minus point was breakfast which had a few issues. However, we were given a discount and an apology and all was well! These things happen! It's not the problem but the way it's dealt with which counts.

The hotel was well located for what I wanted to do (explore Devil's Puncbowl, Hindhead Common, Frensham lakes). It was a quiet location, but still walkable to restaurants and the local pub (as well as having an on-site bar and restaurant). Make no mistake, this isn't a premier inn, and the decor is rather dated, but it is clean and comfortable and suited what I wanted it for. The food I had for breakfast and dinner was excellent, tasty and reasonably priced.

Some attention detail in this hotel would help. My window was a little draughty, and there were some cobwebs in the corners of the room (I've watched a few too many Hotel Inspectors I think), but the staff are very pleasant and attentive. It is also a quiet time of the year for them, with minimal staff so I can understand why this is the way it is.

The location is beautiful! When you book to stay here, please don’t expect polished perfection. The building and the rooms are very tired and some things aren’t working as they should. However what you can expect is exceptional customer service from staff who go above and beyond to ensure you have a lovely stay. The beds are super comfy and despite being attached to the pub, there are peaceful nights. oh and free parking! The pub attached serves amazing food and service was again, excellent. breakfast was great too. We had a lovely time and will definitely be returning.

This is 3 star hotel with 3 star facilities which (around the edges ) could do with a minor uplift but charges accordingly . Just about all the basics were excellent. Spotless white bed linen etc. Staff especially Friendly Very good food. Bar full of character, they put on the Rugby International when asked - and took it in good grace when England lost to Scotland. Excellent old school hotel.

Basically if you wish to pay double the price in the area to ensure the varnish on the room table isn't very slightly faded with a cup mark perhaps this is not the hotel for you otherwise book and enjoy the beautiful country surroundings.

Great location for the night before Goodwood Revival. Popular with other classic car owners too. Good on-site parking. Bar and restaurant staff were friendly and welcoming and the dinner we had was excellent. Comfy bed with very clean, fresh linen. Left too early for breakfast unfortunately!

Decor a little tired in places, but it’s an old building, lot to keep on top of everything. Bit hot in the loft bedrooms but we were there on the hottest night of the year

The staff were lovely and we were made to feel like treasured guests. It was comfortable for us with superb walks right on the doorstep. The breakfast was good.

The room decoration is very tired and the curtains could do with some work to fix them! The toilet didn't flush properly and we had to ask for a plug for the washbasin (which didn't drain very well). There are several light bulbs not working through the hotel. This all being said, it was comfortable for us. The evening meal was very expensive and not terribly good. We won't be having another evening meal there.

The location is perfect, the bed was very comfortable and clean, the room was cleaned nicely, the staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

Unfortunately the shower didn’t work properly and it was the same when we stayed other years. There is very little flow of water and the shower fixture on the wall is very stiff and solid and very difficult to turn on and off. Also there is a lot of black mould on the bathroom ceiling.
