nice traditional hotel with lovely beer garden and large room and lovely staff too.

loved the place so feel bad mentioning this as it’s such a great hotel and fab staff but sadly still using Covid policies on room cleaning and distancing signage on doors etc (need to move on, don’t spoil a super hotel with leaving this stuff in place ) eg- cleaners won’t go in unless instructed to. we didn’t realise this so didn’t get room cleaned for the duration of our stay which was our mistake so not a problem plus the rooms are very clean anyway. the staff on reception were great with providing the bits we needed instead. please review the clinging onto Covid stuff if there’s other reasons then that’s fine.

That the team in the morning resolved my room preference and booking issue. I also watched the team in the evening deal with an accident where an elderly visitor took a fall, and they were extremely professional and caring.

I had double booked and am now a regular, but I feel the new petson i was dealing with was not being considering with the room he had allocated me the 1st night considering I'm now there every week! I dealt with a new person for me, so maybe he was just following protocol. However, the next morning, my room for the following 3 nights was resolved, and I was very happy with it. When you're away from home, it makes such a difference. So thank you to the team.

Welcoming and professional staff. A mix of young people and more mature ladies who were well spoken and most helpful. Pleasant gardens to sit out and eat or drink. Menu slightly limited but well cooked and I was particularly impressed by the waiting staff. Property is in good condition, rooms and decoration a good blend of old and new. Very tidy and clean

I would have preferred a room away from the road for one facing the splendid rear views. Nevertheless there was little evening or late traffic noise to disturb me. Could have done with an extra blanket over the summer duvet but this was a minor point. Overall I found the hotel a very pleasant stay.

Friendly and helpful staff. Gardens at rear to relax and have a drink. Comfortable dining room and full English breakfast was freshly cooked to order and was excellent.

Our room was on the front of the hotel and subject to considerable traffic noise during the day if the window was open. So for our own comfort we kept the window closed and used the electric fan provided. There was a step down from the hallway to the bedroom and a step up into the bathroom which you had to be careful to negotiate at night when it was dark.

The location is good for a stopover on our way to Cornwall. There’s a good hairdryer in the room. The evening meal was delicious.

We asked for a quiet room but it was far from quiet so we didn’t get a good nights sleep. The traffic was busy on the road. There were workers outside our door and the people in the room above us we on a walk about during the early hours of the morning. The room was cleanish but the cobwebs on the ceiling need to be vacuumed. We cleared most of them on our arrival.

Excellent stay here! Staff were superb from checking in to checking out. Ample parking and a really nice view over the hills. We had a free upgrade through genius membership with booking.com and the room was a good size with a view over the hills. Tea and coffee making facilities and iron/ironing board in the room. Nice big bathroom also. We decided to eat in the restaurant as the menu looked nice. I can highly recommend the slow cooked pork belly for starters, melt in your mouth stuff. Breakfast is pre order (not stayed somewhere where they've done this other than seeing it on four in a bed lol) both for what you want and what time you wanted it. Was great, ordered it for 9.15 and was on our table 10 mins later, in the interim we enjoyed the continental stuff.

Rooms are a little dated but still very comfortable. The lobby/bar/restaurant are more modern. The room decor etc did not spoil anything though and still a 10/10 for me.

lovely comfortable room and as we had taken our westie it was great that there was a special area where we could have our breakfast with our dog. Bed was super comfortable.

the only thing that let the Shrubbery down was the breakfast. the first day was good but the second day if looked like microwave cooking..the scrambled egg looked like rubber. My husband said the same for his full English.

Staff were very friendly and very helpful ,Lovely surroundings, hotel was clean and well kept and very nice Breakfast

Traffic noise in room was a bit disturbing , I found the pillows uncomfortable and could have done with a bed cover as the quilt was on the thin side , No fault of the hotel but the local taxi services are abysmal would have been stranded if not for the wonderful staff who helped !

Beautiful hotel in Ilminster close to all we needed. As we were visiting Chard (quarter of an hour drive away) the location was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Be warned that the property has lots of internal stairs to reach rooms because of the building character, this isn't an issue as long as you're mobile!

The poor staff were clearly over-stretched. Assume this is part of the ongoing effect of COVID, but more than a skeleton staff is needed. No criticism of the staff there, all were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in a good location, the staff are welcoming and helpful.

The rooms aren't serviced at all during your stay. This was introduced during Covid but the hotel continues to do this, presumably to cut costs. Tea and coffee, etc, is provided on demand but you shouldn't need to do that in this type of establishment.
