Staff were wonderful, room nicely appointed, great location

Although there was an elevator too our floor we then had to go back down a narrow steep flight of stairs to actually reach our room. There was no indication of this on the booking site or information on the hotel. The bathroom was also on a different level requiring 4 steps to reach it The guest wifi was also not working well and kept asking us to sign in via facebook or to provide a lot of personal information which we were not willing to do. My cell phone and notebook kept notifying me that the site was unsafe and would not allow a connection. The staff did insist that this was normal I considered it a breach of confidentiality and was not confident we were on a secure system

The hotel is very conveniently located, only a 5 minute walk from the train station and within easy access to a host of bars and restaurants. The room was nice, though the shower pressure and temperature left a little to be desired. The lino on the bathroom floor let down the overall quality of the room but other than that it was very pleasant. I booked breakfast for the second morning and it was decent value for money.

The shower pressure was very weak meaning you hand to practically stand centimeters from the shower head. The temperature was quite variable too, swinging from hot to lukewarm.

A very good sized room. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean with a deep bath and good pressured shower. All the extra amenities in the room were great as well. The staff were very friendly and really helpful. Nothing was too much. The location is fantastic. A short walk in either direction to the city centre, or to the Quayside. Monument Metro station is less than a quarter of a mile away. Plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from along Grey Street as well.

Not the hotel's fault, but there were roadworks going on (into the early hours) immediately outside the hotel entrance, which was the only dampener of the stay. The curtains were a bit of a fiddle to open and close and the bathroom plugs were not easy to work out how to get the water to drain away from the sink and bath. Very minor bugbears that did not tarnish an otherwise wonderful stay.

The room was great- set on 2 floors with a flight a stairs to get to the bathroom and the corridor. The bar and the restaurant were very nicely decorated- really stunning. Breakfast was great, good choice and well cooked. I would definatly like to return here for another stay

The only thing was no light switch to turn the stairs lights off at the bottom of the stairs. You had to turn the light off and walk down the stairs in the dark- also the lighting over the desk / dressing table needed to be brighter- I couldn't see in the wardrobe to get my clothes out. This did not spoil my stay it just would have improved it. My friends stayed in the room next door and both things mentioned was not an issue in their room.

Lovely staff and a perfect for a visit to the Opera as it is on the same street. Very comfortable bed and nice bathroom with both bath and shower

The room was quite small with only one small window. We felt that it would have been better if all the walls, carpet and bedding were a lighter colour than the very dark grey it was decorated in. Not a complaint about the hotel but a warning to other guests. We stayed there to go to the Opera which did not finish until 9:45. We found most of the restaurants were closing or closed including the hotel dining room. The only one open was the Iguana which was very good.

Perfect location, good sized room, lovely setting. Nice products in the bathroom, lots of wardrobe and drawer space with iron and ironing board, inviting entrance. Breakfast was lovely, all freshly cooked and hot. Loads of it as well.

Teeny tiny lift which opened on 3rd floor to be met with a hoover, linen cart, dirty crockery etc right outside lift doors meaning we had to squeeze by with luggage. Bathroom radiator was boiling and right up against the toilet. Couldn't turn temp down and actually burnt my elbow on the radiator. Windowsills were VERY dusty and the mattress was so soft that I slept right at the edge to avoid rolling into the middle all night. Floorboards very creaky and we were woken up at 6.30am ( on a sunday) with people above us walking around. There are also loads of steps between floors so anyone with mobility issues might struggle.

The staff were wonderful, especially the reception staff. Most of the restaurant staff and bar staff were lovely.

More gluten free items marked clearly on the food menu please. The stairs in the junior suite was difficult to navigate at night. The beautiful room guide contained so many warnings not to steal anything that I began to feel guilty by default. Maybe a more positive way of phrasing the contents of the guide would be a good thing.

Just lovely. Great room #3 super comphy bed nice linens. Big bathtub. Coffee tea and biscuits bottled water. In room safe and iron and ironingboard. Quiet . Fantastic location for walking the city and amenities. The breakfast was absolutely top notch and the breakfast room is the beautiful restaurant . The bar is really nice and very popular . I live how the outside of the hotel is festooned in flowers. I really loved my stay.

One morning my wakeup call was half hour late. But she appologized and i was not on a schedule. The next morning it was on time as i had to.leave for the airport.

We were fortunate enough to have booked a junior suite, which was very nice, and more importantly, at the back of the property, so quiet. The room was spacious and the bathroom even more so! Bed was enormous and very comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good indeed - except the fruit juice, which has obviously been standing too long and tasty "fizzy". We also ate in the restaurant on the first night and was pleasantly surprised.

Cleanliness could have been better - especially outside the front entrance where there were a lot of cigarette butts. Also the lift was very small and damaged. Shower pressure was poor, but the bath was very big. Heated towel rail didn't work. All minor details.

Excellent friendly staff and location absolutely brilliant. Very central for everything you want to do in Newcastle. Nice bar and restaurant.

Two point let it down a small bit. The beds in our room the mattress went to the floor when I sat on the bed because the baseboards were not on properly so had to correct it ourselves. Also there was an issue with the key cards on the doors and the hotel staff had to break in the door for us to access the room and get our bags. A room upgrade was offered but we didn't bother to move room. Finding the room was like being in the crystal maze. All of these are really very minor in comparison to the super friendly staff, it's location and the value for money.
