The breakfast was varied in choice. Lots of homemade continental little touches such as smoothies in little bottles, over night oats and natural yogurt compotes were fantastic. Excelled on cleanliness from the front door, it was immaculate, that included the high footfall areas and the bedrooms. The mattresses and pillows were just divine, we wanted to bring them home. Excellent value for money in what I would refer to as a "high end budget hotel". From booking to online check in, to online check out, everything was so simple and easy. A little box of chocolates and a hand written card were left for my daughter on her 19th birthday when we entered the room. A lovely thoughtful touch. Excellent location and reduced car parking when booking via the hotel's website. It was brilliant we could have 3 people in this room without having to have our daughter sleep on a sofa bed. Still plenty of space and above all it kept the cost very affordable.

If there was anything, and this is the tiniest thing; better lighting in the bedroom mirror as it wasn't the best.

All of the staff were wonderful and friendly, especially the bar staff in the evenings. They were always incredibly polite. The online check in made arriving and getting our keys effortless, and the same for check out. The lobby was pretty and welcoming. The room was clean and always refreshed to a high standard when requested. The bathroom was a good size, and also very clean. Beds were super comfy and extra pillows supplied in the room's wardrobe. Perfect location for spending time in the city - restaurants and entertainment just a few steps away and everything you could need close by.

Only negative was the size of the room. Me and my partner took our teenage daughter, and there wasn't much room for the three of us together. Narrow passageways between either side of the beds and not much more room at the foot of the beds. Would definitely look at upgrading to a bigger one next time.

They messed my booking up good and proper but did fix it to my satisfaction. The staff are friendly and good at sorting problems out.

The stress of things going wrong on what was meant to be a relaxing break. The online check in system they have caused all sorts of problems. It messed up my room upgrade, charging me twice but leaving me in the original inferior room. We had to go back to reception to get the already paid for upgrade but that room was unavailable so we ended up in a different kind of room which was fine but was neither what we had paid for nor what we wanted. Best advice is to avoid the online check in system!

Absolutely perfect location right in the city centre with access to all you could want for a visit to Newcastle. Hotel had the immediate “wow” factor on arrival and was clean and modern throughout. Staff were friendly and attentive (specifically Peter who worked in the bar during the evening). Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay, excellent value for money and can’t wait to return!

Unfortunately there was some disruption to our sleep on one of our nights stays due to an early morning delivery for the shop opposite the hotel. This wouldn’t put us off staying and we’d probably request a room away from the street (or just bring some really good ear plugs!)

We stayed for one night for the Great North Run. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and there was a real buzz in the hotel regarding the run. They provided a great varied breakfast, and a lovely touch of water and snacks for the runners to take before the run and discounted food and drink for medal wearers after the run, as well as a curtesy room to freshen up and shower in . I thought I had left my watch at the hotel, and the reception staff were very helpful in trying to locate it. I can't fault them.

The price more than tripled for the night before the Great North Run race, although I do understand all hotels were doing this so par the course, but it did make it an expensive stay for one night. Although I felt the location and the added touches made it worthwhile in the end.

The front desk lady…curt and abrupt attitude during check in to collect keys to room.

Spent a lovely 3 days at this hotel recently. We had a room on the 5th floor in the corner, away from the lift (just as I had requested). The room was so big it had 2 king size beds in it and masses of floorspace so we weren't on top of each other. Charming, funny and helpful reception staff made our 5 and a half hour journey (should have taken 1hr 30) all the better at check in. Despite there being what seemed like 100 footballers in reception we were dealt with swiftly. The hotel was clean throughout and we were given complimentary drinks on arrival. The breakfast was also very good and a great choice for all tastes. Personally, and I'm nit picking here, I would have liked some tomatoes with my breakfast, but that's just me! Everything else was fabulous. We would definitely stay again!

My only gripe with the room (and this is almost every hotel) there is no where near to natural daylight to do your makeup. Bathroom mirrors are always steamed up and over sinks so you can't get near...

Warm welcome. Having been unsuccessful in getting 2 upgraded rooms at the weekend, when the staff received a cancellation they held 2 rooms and shuffled bookings around so myself and my companion could be on the same floor. Also immediately responded to my request for sparkling water instead of still in my room. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast although self service was a relaxing affair even when busy, items replenished in a timely way and well laid out to help avoid queues. We ate dinner in the hotel one evening and that was also very good. I honestly did not believe the reviews this hotel receives but having now visited myself, I can confirm that the Maldron in Newcastle is exceptional in its class. Special mentions to Jodie, Alex, Ryan and the very smiley lady at front of house at breakfast (did not get her name).

Having booked The Maldron to stay in Newcastle for 2 nights to take in a show, and the nightlife, over the Xmas period I had never come across this hotel before despite living fairly locally. I would recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in the town centre as the location is perfect (The Gate, Bigg Market, Theatre Royal and Quayside to name but a few good hotspots). Only a 5 minute walk to the train station too. The room was exceptional for the price and the staff excellent. I shall be staying there again the next time I intend seeing a show or hitting the toon!

My stay was perfect.

The location was perfect and very central. The hotel was clean and modern. The staff were friendly. The bed was very comfortable.

Despite booking the room for two people, only one large towel and bathrobe were provided. There also wasn’t a toilet brush. We had room 442 which was supposed to be an Executive King Room, didn’t have any view and just looked onto a roof area. It didn’t seem to be worth the price of upgrading. The room service pizza was average and not worth £15. I had a Vodka and coke from the downstairs bar but it had a weird, bad taste and smelt off, to the point of it being undrinkable.
