Great location next to the station so very easy to get to. Reception staff were extremely helpful and very nice - our flight was delayed so we arrived at 2am and the night receptionist let us have the room for a little later (12pm). The staff in the hotel bar were exceptional too - again we had missed breakfast due to our late arrival and they made us toast/ tea even though it was not on the menu. The bar was also a lovely place to relax and the food/ service was excellent. Free wifi too :-) and bags could be left and picked up from reception. Rooms were well stocked with tea/ coffee and milk and sugar Historically, the hotel is very interesting too. It was built in the 18th century (I think!) and has so much character!

It was a bit noisy at night as it is situated near a few bars (to be fair they actually provide ear-plugs!) The room was rather small and the bed was against the wall so 1 person (me!) could feel a bit trapped if you needed to get up in the night.

A wonderful Victorian building complete with a grand stairway and chandeliers.Excellent location 50 yards from the main railway station and easy walking to many places of interest ie the Castle,Tyne Bridge,St.James Park and pubs.I had a single room which was fine and cleaned daily.Plenty of choices for breakfast but no whole milk which was disappointing. Otherwise, everything was good.

No whole milk for tea/coffee at breakfast. A well established hotel ought to be big enough not to fall for the skimmed/semi skimmed con.It is NOT the healthier option and if it was then just offer fruit for breakfast and refrain from serving alcohol in the evenings. Neither is smoking a healthy option but a small smoking area (outside at the back of the restaurant with a seat or two?) would be useful and not disturbing those inside digging into their fry ups.

The bed was very comfortable. The reception area and corridors are lovely and grand. I also found the staff to be helpful and friendly. Having a pool, sauna, steam room and gym facilities is a great bonus. The location is fantastic, being right in the centre and next to the train station, taxi rank and bus station, makes getting around easy and being able to leave the car parked up is super.

The first room we were put in was so dark and dingy and couldn't see anything out of the window. It was also up and down loads of steps. As it stated having a lift at the hotel, so I wasn't expecting this to be an issue. However due to bad knees I asked to be moved, we were then moved to a room at the front of the hotel which was much better, although still a few steps. The rooms are very dated, I get that it is an old building, but the rooms could be better. The hot water went off for several hours, so unable to have a shower, and also the hot tub wasn't working.

The pool was lovely and so were all the facilities around it. The room was nice and was good they had the fan as lack of ac meant the room got very hot but atleast windows opened. The tv was good size and the room staff were very nice. I would 100 percent stay again as its such a good location and so easy to get to most places in Newcastle. I can definitely see passed the few negatives they were and say i enjoyed my time in the hotel the breakfast was delicious i had the porridge which was super and i also had a full breakfast from the buffer which it all was buffet and it was all good quality products which was nice and nothing tasted bland.

The room was nice but toilet was a little cramped into the bathroom next to bath i feel like getting rid of bath and just having shower tray would be a better fit but it's personal preference. I was wanting room service for water and a drink as tap dosnt run very cold but was told i would have a £3.50 tray charge on top of my bill which i just didn't bother with as didn't see it as being worth it.

We have never had such a warm welcome at a hotel. What a friendly and accommodating staff - from the front desk to management to wait staff to the porter to housekeeping. Everyone was just lovely and quite responsive. We arrived by bicycle after 28 days of touring Scotland. This was the perfect place to rest and recover for two days before sailing home. Our room was spacious, the spa was relaxing, and our bike was stored in a secure, indoor location. We opted for half-board and thoroughly enjoyed each meal. The charm of this hotel has been retained while updates have made the facilities more modern.

Wish we could have stayed longer.

My room suited me, it was at the back, so, apart from Saturday, there was a wedding on, people enjoying themselves no problem. I was there as my husband was in the Freeman Hospital, I had booked 4 nights, he was still going to be in over the weekend, on Thursday I asked for 2 more nights, after booking me another room on Saturday and yet another on Sunday, meaning I would have to keep changing rooms, they checked all the time for no shows or cancellations, they got me 2 more nights in the same room, on Saturday morning, this was day and night staff. Will DEFINITELY Highly recommend and if I need to return will stay here.

The TV wasn't a very good picture, obviously the aerial, but I fiddled with the aerial and it was much better. could do to be fixed though before some ackward guest complains.

very close to the town centre and the railway station.

The room was very dated and could have done with a fresh lick of paint.

Absolutely fantastic location, only a couple of steps from the train station and a 2-3 minutes walk into Newcastle, perfect for a weekend break. Hotel is exquisitely decorated, and the rooms are small but have above average facilities - my single room had a full bath tub.

The breakfast was good but not fantastic, and the layout of the hotel is fairly labyrinthine, to the point you'll likely walk further inside the hotel than you will to get there from the train station. Some signage on how to get back to reception would be useful deeper into the building.

On the first night I had an attic room with noise from the street. This was changed by a very helpful person at reception and I then had a more attractive room on floor 3 with a good view over the station to the bridges and Gateshead. I used the swimming pool, which I found ideal for my limited swimming ability. Having been to a restaurant where the deserts were not interesting my friend and I were able to enjoy a desert in the hotel.

The room I had first seemed to have been fitted with secondary glazing which was no longer in place. It would have made sense to provide such sound insulation from revellers below.

This is a very old hotel with some original Victorian decor . It’s dark and atmospheric. The two huge chandeliers in the entrance hall are beautiful. The breakfast was very good , served in a dimly lit restaurant. I was seated at a table with views over the street outside . It was raining and grey. There is a free spa/pool building . The location is excellent for people travelling by train. Loved the original revolving doors by reception

Room could of done with a good thorough vacuuming. The shower didn’t work (had a nice hot bath though) .
