We were very disappointed at our dinner in the Oak room but did not complain as we were entertaining guests and did not find it value for the cost. Specifically my partner and I ordered Liver pink but when we tried to eat we both found that the liver had been heavily overcooked and the accompanying 'jus' was highly acidic and we were unable to eat the portions as might have been noted in the kitchens. Otherwise the food was OK Also the service in the lounge was slow as we had to wait for our drinks order to be taken and then our wine to be delivered both after reminders (a half an hour from from the time we arrived!) Generally the service was otherwise fine We will not be visiting the George again

The room was large and airy, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was, as usual, first class with a diverse selection of food available. Staff were all polite and helpful.

Sadly our room was located above the bar area and although there was no interruption to our sleep by way of people there was some sort of machinery which operated all night which did interrupt my sleep. I think it was some sort of glass washer and I will endeavour to not be loacted in that area of the hotel should we visit again.

The room was very nice and comfortable. The front desk was very welcoming when I walked in. The breakfast service was delicious and the staff was excellent.

The hallways had a slight odor , would recommend using some type of air freshener. The dinner service was a disaster. We were not seated at our table. The hostess said pick a table and gave us our menus. Very unprofessional. Two different people took out order which made it confusing. Overall four different people waited on us. However, the silver lining was that the food was delicious!

The hotel was a lovely old building in a pretty village. Parking was great. Room was very comfortable although a very long way from reception! Breakfast was very nice.

Lovely as it was I felt the cost of the room for one night was too much. (Having just come from an actual castle which was magnificent and only just over $100 more for 2 nights left me quite disappointed.) There was also no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which I haven’t come across before…

Fabulous historic building in a wonderful town. It was a real joy to stay here and the service is excellent. Excellent choice at breakfast, I loved the Whitby kippers. I’ll definitely stay here again.

Some parts could do with a refurb but all adds to the experience.

Luggage taken to room. Atmosphere was excellent. The Oak room dining experience was outstanding with oysters and Dover sole and attentive service.

As an older traveller it would be desirable if a non slip mat could be available in the bath to ensure safe entry and exit.

The George is perfectly situated with ample parking. The staff were all very polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Having a newspaper delivered in the morning was a nice touch. The room was very nice and the bathroom was great with a powerful shower and plenty of hot water. The bed was firm and comfortable, if not as large as we would have liked. We did not have dinner at the hotel, but breakfast was fantastic in terms of choice and quality.

There was an air purifier in the room that made annoying noises until we figured out how to turn it off. To coffee wasn't great, but to be fair I don't think I have ever stayed in hotel that does good coffee!

Very significant 1,000 year old Hotel half way between London and York. Magnificent history and set in delightful Stamford.

It suffers somewhat for being so old….no lifts, weak wifi and eye-watering drinks prices (£15 for a glass of wine 🤭)

The gardens at the hotel are absolutely beautiful, so that was a wonderful welcome when I walked through from the car park ... The hotel itself is steeped in history, and is looked after well from a maintenance perspective, it felt like I was staying in a posh friend's country house for the weekend! Room was well appointed, and clean. I ate dinner in the courtyard, and the food was delicious - great menu and great service. Breakfast was also excellent.

The wifi was very intermittent which wasn't a problem as it was a weekend stay, but would have been more of a challenge if I need to access emails etc for work.

Excellent dinner, well cooked and flavoursome. Portion size just right - I could have had other additions if I had chosen to. Service was swift, courteous and smooth. The setting was lovely and everything sparkled. Breakfast was also well cooked and served at the table in a timely manner. Elegant china and cutlery. Breakfast choice was excellent. Room and bed were excellent,.

Breakfast tea became cold and no one offered a top up. Toast arrived as a starter . Breakfast was menu driven and nothing available as a self service item. This meant choosing and telling staff what was wanted. The shower in the bathroom had a mind of its own, but the bathroom itself was spotless and very well appointed.
