The courtyard is the saving grace, the front of house comes second, location - third, rooms - fourth. Sadly, the restaurant/breakfast/staff (in the pub and restaurant) let it down a bit. You know, when I am on holiday, I want to be spoiled a bit. The breakfast menu is so prescriptive. Two items from the continental menu OR one from the cooked menu (that is according to the menu). On holiday, I want to indulge,,,,, I might want a bit of fruit, yoghurt or toast before a bacon sarnie. But this is not allowed - according to the menu. I want to be able to get up and help myself to that second glass of orange juice. It’s all a little bit controlled. And, whilst the bar staff ask the correct questions, there is no eye contact or sincerity. A pity, as the Crown is great. Would I stay again? Yes. I would just go for a ‘no breakfast’ booking. I’ve never stayed in an hotel with such a difficult breakfast before. So much so, that we did not eat at the restaurant for other meals.

The breakfast was delicious and the staff were so friendly. My room was serviced every day to a great standard. The room was lovely, had homely touches and very clean. 10/10 stay!

Extremely minor point- when I went to make my tea in the morning, the milk had been taken away and a new one was not given to me. I stayed in the townhouse which was very nice, although my room was right by the front door so every time someone walked in or out I could hear everything- particularly annoying when I was trying to sleep. 2 very small complaints - it was a great stay overall.

Beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean, lovely staff. Room 42 was wonderful - an ensuite with a well-lit and well furnished dressing room between it and the bedroom. White Company toiletries in the bathroom. Lots of space. Fantastic central Stamford location. Food very nice indeed. Great ambience. My future travel plans will be harder because I only want to stay in Knead Pubs from now on. 😉

Their parking is in high demand but that’s nobody’s fault except ours for turning up late in the day. Lots of other local car parks, fortunately. Be careful not to confuse it with the Crown in nearby Great Casterton. We accidentally detoured there first.

Very nice room marred by the heat. We loved the courtyard for sitting out to have a drink. The restaurant was lovely and well set out.

The room was extremely hot. There was a fan but it was still very uncomfortable. Bath very high to get into for shower. We are not as young as we used to be. No handrail or bath mat either which needs to be addressed. We booked the restaurant for dinner but were very disappointed. I ordered chicken and mushroom pie which I found to be dry and completely inedible. a manager was apologetic and then brought me fish and chips. Fish batter was soggy and I could barely eat half of it. My friend ordered beef bourguignon which was nothing like it should have looked. Instead of a stew there was a big dollop of meat on top of mash along with a jug of sauce!! All in all a big disappointment. They did not charge for my meal. Most definitely spoiled our evening. Maybe we were just unlucky

The breakfast food was very good. Evening meal had a good choice of vegetarian and vegan food. The room had a fridge and microwave which I was not expecting.

The quilt was far too thick for a very hot night. No almond milk available at breakfast even though I had asked when I booked and I thought it had been confirmed. The room had a steep flight of stairs once inside to reach the bedroom. These were difficult to manage until I realised the key card must be in the door slot for the light to be on. There were unexpected road works outside at night which made sleeping impossible with the windows open in the heat.

Stayed here twice now for its location. Parked in the car park, located at the rear, entrance button is hidden by scaffolding serving a neighbouring property. Check in was very good and we were shown to our room. The bathroom was huge and lovely, with a central roll top bath and separate shower. Windows open which is always a bonus! Comfortable bed but it did have a duvet more suitable for colder months. We ate out at the Slanted

We like to sleep with the window open which also means noise from the alley below affects your sleep at both ends of the day.

The Crown is an old pub with lots of character. it has an excellent location in the centre of Stamford. The food at breakfast and dinner was excellent and the service was very prompt. The shower in the bathroom was powerful and roomy.

We found the bed to be overly firm, resulting in a difficult first night’s sleep. We asked about other rooms but apparently all rooms have similar beds. They didn’t have any toppers but we were offered a second quilt for the bed, which softened the bed for the 2nd night. We also found the bathroom lacking in shelf space near the washbasin to place personal items, and limited hanging space in the bedroom.

Central location with locked car park. Charming courtyard entrance to reception: greeting was warm and welcoming. We were assigned ground floor room 41 in the coach houses adjoining the main building. Generous sized twin bedded room which appeared to be newly refurnished, tasteful design in keeping with the building’s character yet modern and comfortable. Privacy window blinds, good interior lighting. Bathroom has the ‘wow’ factor with large walk in shower, two basins, free standing feature bath. Plenty of room if accessibility is required and a wonderfully luxurious sense of space. Toiletries by The White Company and reed diffuser from local independent retailer’Freckleface’. Good quality in-room tea and coffee.

We had a ‘cosy’ room, which was still decorated to a really high standard and felt really comfortable and welcoming. The en-suite shower room was modern, clean and stocked with The White Company miniatures. The shower was powerful and the towels provided were lovely and soft! Staff were able to check us in earlier than 2pm and we were able to park in the hotel car park to the rear of the hotel. Once we put bags in our room, we decided to see if we could get a table for lunch as it was busy, had a good atmosphere and the food looked really nice. Staff were really accommodating and we had a tasty ploughman’s platter to share. The included breakfast was a real highlight; we weren’t sure whether to expect a buffet style breakfast or not. Instead, we could choose from a proper breakfast/brunch menu ranging from yoghurt, cereals and toast to eggs royale or a full English - we went for the latter along with coffees and fruit juices. The location of The Crown Hotel is excellent and as first-timers to Stamford it was perfect for exploring the town. The only reason I haven’t scored 10 is that our room looked over the neighbouring wine bar which was a little noisy on a Saturday night but nothing that kept us awake for too long. We would definitely return!

Hotel was clean and tidy. Lovely and warm when we got there coming in from the cold. Reception were lovely on check in.

Couldn’t figure out to turn heating off or open a window so room was really stuffy in the night. Could hear every thudding footstep of the guests upstairs. Even when they flushed the chain, had a shower and ran the taps. Was very annoying when trying to sleep and they came back to hotel around 1pm. The glass mirror table in the room next to the bed, was higher than the bed, causing my husband to smack his head on the corner of the table in middle of the night and creating a bump. Our room was out of the hotel, down the street and round the back of a town house. Felt weird. Breakfast was nice, but felt like we weren’t welcome by the guy who seated us. Even though was plenty of tables, seamed annoyed about us being a table of 6.
