Liked the grounds absolutely beautiful. The staff were friendly . Had a beautiful sleep
The way breakfast is served is not to our liking. You have a time you choose which is good . When you get to the dining hall it is self service. There was hardly any hot food left . One toaster which takes two turns to brown . One coffee jug and one jug of hot water for everyone there If you pick a time then you should have full choice of what's available . The servers should be in hall checking what people need and not having to ask and wait for more produce . Second night we stayed I rang and asked for vegetarian sausages so they were provided

The Stunning historic building is a real treat to be in, and the very tiredness of the the place was very comforting. The staff were both friendly and efficient.
Breakfast was uninspiring and the breakfast room is a very long walk from the main areas. For those that have a mobility problem there is no lift so any room that not on the ground floor is a real trek to get to. Room 305, apparently a feature room, was found to be expensive for its facilities. No fridge, the bedside lights had no bedside switching( only by entrance door). Only two small bottles of water supplied in the room and were not refreshed for our second night, and there was no evidence that the room had been visited, as it should have been. The evening meal was appalling, albeit it was an event dinner but a roast chicken dinner is not hard to cook.

The location was nice and quiet but enough to look around for just a one night stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious.
No lift, we were on the top floor. Not able to have the expierence of the resturant berties. The lighting in the room was rather low. The bathroom was not a separate room. The sink plus shower and bath were part of the room. There was a step up, which you could easily trip up when going to the loo, which was separate, however you could not put just the toilet light on, you had to put the light on for the bath/shower area. Which was not great for getting up in the night. You wake your partner with all the light.

This was a return visit to Ruthin because we both enjoyed our stay at the castle. We returned to visit some of the local attractions that were closed on our first visit. We loved staying at the castle and the spa. We booked in for two sessions and had a fantastic time. The hotel is steeped in history. The grounds are beautiful and are blessed with a muster of peacock's that have free roam of the grounds. We notice this time there are sandwich style boards scattered around the grounds highlighting interesting parts of the castle and grounds. Every member of staff that I spoke to were friendly and happy to answer any questions. The member of staff who manages the Bazaar Spa was friendly and remembered us from last time which was friendly. We did have a strange thing happen to us we'd always taken the same route to the spa which involved a staircase and several changes of direction. We went to take the same route back to our room, which was directly over the Spa, we took the 'back stairs' route back went through the usual door but came out virtually opposite our room. I'd love to find the answer out to what had happened. I must add the Castle is haunted by Lady Grey, whose grave is in the castle grounds. Although at the present time it's closed off because of a collapsed wall. Our only complaints are that I walk with crutches and we ended up in the room furthest away from reception. We asked to be moved, but we were told there were no other deluxe rooms available on our arrival day or the following day. After that, it seemed pointless to move rooms then. We were offered a down grade, which we wouldn't take. The second point may seem pointless to most, but it's important to me. There was no rubber bathmat available. I asked upon arrival, and the person on reception said it would be available that evening. I ended up asking twice more. I ended up using a towel to prevent me slipping
The room problem, as stated above. The problem with no rubber bathmat available. I never had a problem before.

The castle grounds were beautiful. Every single staff member were very helpful & friendly nothing was ever too much. Our room was very spacious, very clean & comfortable. It offers spa facilities too & I loved that peacocks roamed freely. The outside eating area is beautiful with a Teepee tent too. Every time we asked for our room too be serviced it was done and we also had a large storage area for all of our clothes. We paid for breakfast every day which included a help yourself full English and continental with unlimited Tea, coffee & juices too. The whole stay was wonderful and we will definitely be returning. The village is literally a 5 minute walk with other places to eat & drink. Local shops and even Ruthin Gaol which we visited was worth the visit too. Everyone is so friendly.
The only thing I would say is if your on the 3rd floor like we were there is no lift so if you struggle with lifting heavy objects like cases ask for a lower floor & also couldnt connect to the free wifi at all despite trying in our room.

The whole castle and hotel was fantastic. Sumptuous decor and history all around. The gardens were beautiful, peaceful, enchanting. The resident peacocks were beautiful and entertaining , especially the baby chick's. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The rooms were nicely decorated and very comfortable.
The breakfast could have been better. A wider choice of fresh fruit. Hot food served fresh, as the hotplate system made the eggs overcooked and the hot buffet was often left untidy , with lids left off . The juices, cereals, hot water and other items were often in need of replenishment.

This hotel is set in the most idyllic, spectacular surroundings ever! The bar area was very atmospheric too (we enjoyed a really good 3 course meal here; we couldn't eat in the restaurant as we travelled with our little dog). We enjoyed our stay enormously, especially exploring the stunning gardens with our dog. Thankfully, we didn't encounter the ghost of the grey lady, but there was an amazing, historic feel about the place, so I wouldn't have been surprised if she had floated past!!!
I wouldn't say we disliked anything, although the bedroom and en suite didn't really live up to the amazing setting and lovely grand reception and bar areas. Saying that, the bed was extremely comfy, and the room and bathroom were clean. Just a bit tired decor-wise. Assuming the place is being done up bit by bit, it will probably end up being so amazing that the price will go up massively, so I recommend going now whilst it's affordable. Certainly, the fabulous grounds and grand shared areas make it worth every penny, despite the slightly scruffy room.

The decor and structure was beautiful, they made it feel really majestic. The grounds were incredible too with original structures still standing and peacocks wandering around. I absolutely adored my room, it was on the second floor and my bed was by a corner window which meant I could wake up and look out at the grounds.
The shampoo holder in my shower was broken so I couldn’t get any out. Where it was old plumbing when you flushed the toilet it was really loud but in all fairness I don’t think that could be helped. This didn’t impact on the comfort of the room though, I would still want to stay here again.

The setting is amazing, peacocks and rabbits roam this Victorian remodelled castle built on the orginal 1300 ruins some of which still remain. It must have been breathtaking in those days and still is now, a romantic air permeating every stone. The staff were fantastic ready to help at any request. They should be proud of themselves.
The room (212) wasn't serviced however this was rectified by the receptionist who was very helpful. The bathroom was imposing and a wow factor which was slighly marred by a couple of practical issues with the shower. We mentioned this on our departure, the staff said they would look into the matter and also the lack of a towel rail. Other than those niggles we were very happy and look forward to our next visit.
