One of the nicest stays my mother and I have probably ever had. Had a ground floor conveniently placed courtyard room separate from the main hotel where I could wander over to the expansive lawn a walk my dog, The staff were fantastic where nothing was too much trouble, I especially liked the ladies on breakfast duty who, whilst being incredibly busy, managed to accommodate our needs. I am vegan and the breakfast menu was one of the most varied I have come across. We ate in the hotel on our last evening and the food was lovely, and reasonabley priced. I believe this hotel gave a high standard of good old fashioned customer service, something that is unfortunately lacking in much of today's service industry. I will definitely recommend to others.

Only to be incredibly picky, I already knew that you could hear footsteps above you being on the ground floor as it was mentioned in an earlier review but there was a deafening amount of banging and playing from a young boy at around 6am one morning in the room above. This is not directly the hotels fault though I did mention it to the reception. I never heard them again so believe the hotel may have had a polite word. I don't think it is an environment suitable for a small child, the hotel's charm is it's quiet, relaxed atmosphere.

We had an upstairs room overlooking the Courtyard, it was quite spacious and larger than expected. The bed was comfy and warm, we had everything needed in the room. We didn't feel the room was any noisier than other places we have stayed. We didn't have breakfast but had a drink in the bar which was very quiet when we stayed. All staff were very pleasant and helpful.

There was a sales team from Virgin Media staying, most were very pleasant but there was an incident on our first night. Some of the Virgin staff returned the worse for drink after midnight and were a little noisy. Shortly after their return the fire alarm went off so everyone had to leave their rooms. This was caused by 1 idiot smoking in his room. We later found out he was abusive to staff members and told to leave the next morning by his Team Leader. Emma was the staff member on duty and handled the situation very well as did Virgin's team leader the following morning.

After researching the surrounding areas I wanted somewhere a bit quieter but close enough to Scarborough and Whitby + Robins Hood. Taking my 4 Yr old daughter and my dog I think we all had a great 5 night stay here and the money I paid was spot on. The main garden is really well kept and is a great view from the Lean to dining area that opens out onto it. Within walking distance is a local shop and petrol station, and 2x pubs. The family room was exactly as pictured, the beds were comfy, the rooms were nicely decorated and we all slept very well each night. We enjoyed the local walks to the castle, the little field next to the church and along the river to the rope swing in Forge Valley. The breakfast was superb and great quality, you help yourself to cereals fruit and apple/orange juice and then the staff take your orders for a full English or just toast etc. Evening meals were great, generous and cooked nicely. I thought the kids menu option which is a 2 course meal with a drink was great value. Most importantly the table service was really good and we were all looked after. I'm sure to come here again as it's dog and kid friendly whilst providing a relaxing and peaceful place to stay, with good ammenities close by.

The Car park could be almost full by early evening, so just be aware if you come back a bit late. They need a WiFi Access point booster for the rooms.

For the price I was a bit anxious as to what I had booked but it exceeded my expectations. The staff were exceptionally helpful and polite. We hadn't realised that food stopped being served at 8.30pm which is when we arrived in the restaurant to eat but the staff very helpfully allowed us to order. The choice of breakfast options and the price were excellent. The sausages were particularly delicious. The bedrooms were clean and very comfortable. The outdoor area was great for the kids to run around and let off steam. It was brilliant value for money for the evening and we would all (a party of nine ranging from 10-67) definitely stay again. Location is very convenient for Scarborough beach.

The tea and coffee at breakfast was a little watered down but that could be personal preference. We like them quite strong. The black pudding was very dry however the choice of breakfast options and the price were brilliant. It is worth noting, it is an old building full of character and our room was quite quirky. This meant the flooring was a bit uneven and we all slipped/skidded a bit entering the bathroom for the first time as the tiles slope down a bit. It's not particularly a con its just something to be aware of. Would happily stay again however!

In a lovely peaceful setting....rooms are very clean and a comfortable bed...pleasant decor.. Nice walks around and about...not far from the coast about 10 minutes drive..

We were on the lower ground level in the dog friendly rooms...you could hear every footstep up above and voices...the outside lighting was very bright and remained on all night..hence the room also being lit up. Pillows need changing as they are very uncomfortable.. We had a meal in the restaurant and felt the staff waitresses were unprofessional ...we were served food and had to ask for cutlery...there was nobody about at the time so had to wait...also the food wasn't great the menu made it sound lovely... At breakfast we were served quickly but the full English alot of the food was cold....and we had really strange tasting mushrooms...not sure they'd even been cooked...

We had a downstairs courtyard room which was perfect. Had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. We were at a wedding at Hackness Grange the day after so was an ideal stop off the night before

They had a large(ish) group in the same night as us and told us that we had a reduced menu (basically burger, scampi or veggie option) because they were concentrating on them so this also made service slow between courses which was a little disappointing. Only 3 staff to be seen, 2 young lads working the bar and serving food and a young woman looking after reception and assisting the lads. Could have been better organised

A lovely place that was stylishly decorated and furnished. Soft bed..I slept soundly but would have preferred a firm pillow instead of all soft ones. The free toiletries were a bonus as well as the free tray in the room with a kettle, tea, coffee, chocolate, bottled water AND biscuits....A VERY NICE TOUCH INDEED. The bathroom had a great, hot shower but would benefit from having a hook or two to hang towels and robes up. We stayed in family room with a king-size bed and 2 singles. The room was very spacious but one chair to sit on was not sufficient. The place throughout was very clean indeed. All the points above are just our recommendations and NOT negatives.

The only negative was next doors shower made a loud banging noise....not very practical at 7am !

Lovely room. Travelled with our dog and had a courtyard room which couldn't have been any better for us, there was even a doggy welcome pack. Parking was right outside too. Nice comfortable beds for a lovely nights sleep. Breakfast was lovely and we sat in the dog friendly section which was very good. The bar was good at night and again the dog came with us. Very friendly staff and very welcoming.

The room was cold until the heating came on but I did ask at reception and the heating was put on, to be fair though it was unseasonably cold and much colder than you would expect for late April. The only thing I would have liked is a dinner in the hotel.

Our room was a good size and comfortable, with everything we needed. We were warmly welcomed by Amy, and found all the staff friendly and helpful. The location is lovely - rural outlook but not far from the coast. We had Sunday lunch in the restaurant, and breakfast in both mornings of our stay - all the food was good, and staff were able to accommodate our choices. There’s a comfortable bar for a drink in the evening, and also a quiet snug.

The rooms in the main hotel would not be suitable for less able visitors, as there are lots of stairs to negotiate - unless there is a lift somewhere?

Booked here for a last minute break. Was not disappointed. The hotel is in a lovely village just outside of Scarborough so ideal for visiting the coastal towns. We stayed in a courtyard room which were the dog friendly rooms, really pleased with the size of the room and everything you needed was there. The bed was very comfy. All the staff we did speak to were friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again.

Nothing at all really. The only reason haven't given a 10 is that we were advised in our confirmation email that the restaurant did not open for evening meals Sundays and Mondays so we had to walk down to the village pub, which was very nice can I say, but would have been nice to try the hotel restaurant. Also if staying in the courtyard rooms they are very thin walls so be warned. We are not too bothered about a bit of noise but others may be!
