The property was well situated; near the station and the centre of the city. The room was a comfortable temperature and the staff very warm and friendly. Breakfasts were beautifully cooked and the restaurant meal in the evening was delicious.

The lighting in the room was too low for my liking. I struggled to read a book once it was dark outside, unless I moved to the desk lamp. Ideally the television should have been at the foot of the bed, so that you didn't have to twist to the side to watch it. This couldn't happen because the bed faced the window. Therefore the bed needed to be moved against the desk wall.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Malmaison York in April. The hotel is very stylish and modern and the rooms were a good size. Breakfast was delicious (although expensive!). One thing to note if you aren't travelling as a couple - there is no 'bathroom' as such in the club rooms. The shower cubicle in the has a clear glass door that opens directly into the room, with only a glass wall between that area and the rest of the room. My octogenarian mother wasn't very comfortable with this arrangement (neither was I!) but we were able to upgrade to a family room which has two rooms, one with a sofa bed and one with a king size bed, with the bathroom in between them. The bathroom technically doesn't have a door but you can close both bedroom doors for privacy. Both the club rooms and family rooms have a Nespresso machine with pods supplied. The lighting in the rooms is quite moody so it can be dark, but we didn't find this to be a problem, and it adds to the style of the rooms. One aspect we did find irritating is the lack of surfaces or pegs to put things on in the bathroom. The sink is large with very little surface round it, some shelves in the empty space below the sink unit would have been appreciated to store toiletry bags etc, and some hooks for hanging robes or towels outside the shower. None of this would stop me going back to the hotel though, we had a really lovely stay, and the hotel is perfectly positioned for easy access to the centre of the city and to the train station. The staff were really helpful and friendly.

Excellent location to get into City if York easily. Walking distance to many points of interest. The room was very chic and unusual to have divider enabling a shower/wash room in same room. Very modern. Sensor lighting enabling nighttime visit to toilet easily lit automatically. Hidden television was impressive. Plugs everywhere with USB sockets incorporated. Plenty of coffee sachet, herbal and English teas. Opted to ‘go green’ and not have housekeeping the 2nd day. As a thank you hotel gave us a voucher for £7.50 per person drinks in the bar. It meant towels were not replaced, bed wasn’t made and refreshment tray not replenished. On 3rd day we had to ask for more toilet paper as well as refreshments. Refrigerator was plenty big enough to place out water and snack but not really cold enough. We were told by ‘Alice’ in the bar to visit the Japanese restaurant for the view of York from the perimeter balcony on 7th floor. We did this and it was a nice view. The restaurant was huge but we don’t like Japanese food so chose not to eat there. The main restaurant where breakfast is served is excellent. Main breakfasts are cooked to order and always perfect. The pastries were freshly cooked, yogurt fresh, fresh fruit salad NOT out of a tin. All freshly cut/prepared every day. Large ‘Jackson’s’ slides bread for self-toasting, Bon Maman jams, honey l, fresh pats of real butter in a small tray ion the table. Fresh squeeEd orange, apple and other juice, fresh milk (not long life!) oat/almond milk available all time, cereals, raisins, seeds and home made granola (was a favourite!) Digital vending machine available at the life lobby serving snacks, chocolate, drinks etc. . All staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will returned if we get a good deal/offer in future! We were advised to upgrade and will definitely ask for a Minster view next time. The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk from York Main Line Train station.

The pillows were too soft for us but we put up with them as we kept forgetting to ask for firmer alternatives! No sink in the toilet so we took a bottle of water to assist with cleaning ourselves!

Clean, comfy room with good quality pillows. We got a suite with a bath… the water at best was warm. Run the bath with no cold water and could get straight it, the only fault for the whole stay (I’m Half mermaid 🧜🏻‍♀️ so would have loved a hot bath). We had brekkie and evening meal in the hotel. The evening meal was quality, tasty and reasonable and the breakfast is quality. The homemade granola is delicious. Drinks were reasonable in price, the cocktails we tasty. We also pre booked hotel parking, a bargain for £25 and you car is tucked away and safe. Staff we happy, smily and attentive. All round a great stay & I would highly recommend ⭐️

The location was excellent - everything we wanted to see was within a few minutes walking distance and also just a 5 min walk from the station. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. There was a slight delay in our room being ready (15 mins) and we were given 2 complimentary drink vouchers. We were enjoying our cocktail in the bar when the receptionist came to give us our room keycard and all the info we needed. Staff at breakfast were helpful and friendly.

I feel that a hook and a small stool in the bathroom would have made having a shower easier. Also a hook in the room to hang up heavy coats - the wardrobe hanging space was quite small.

Brought my sister here for her 25th birthday; nothing asked of them was too much, All the staff in the hotel and both restaurants were a pleasure and nothing was too much for them even at 2-3am (Im not the easiest of customers) everything we asked for we received within 5 minutes. The coffee machine in room was broke but as soon as we told the ladies on reception they brought us a new one straight up. We stayed in a club room and it had a brilliant view from the window, was spotless, beds really comfy and the shower was out of this world. The resources within the hotel are great. The rooftop bar is fabulous and they have the best food by far. On the last day have to check out at 11am but wanted to spend the day in York still the hotel was happy to keep our luggage safe for us until our train this evening. Thank you very much to all staff that have worked over this weekend and for making our stay one to remember we will definitely be returning back here

Couldn’t open windows in room and it did get warm on night in there

Our 2nd time to York, 1st visit to Malmaison several days ago. The hotel was very nice. The family room was spacious compared to nearby hotels in a similar tier. The location was prime and very easy to get around the city center and key attractions. The hotel parking was convenient as we were lucky to have had the space reserved. The receptionists were helpful and supportive. We are very likely to be staying here again when visiting York next time.

Just a minor setback at the first breakfast when the lady (the older one, not the younger one) who serviced us could slightly improve on her etiquette, questioning as if we were there to have free breakfast, and asked us twice regarding our room number. Just a minor thing but just to inform you, the other staff were very nice, so it wouldn't be fair to the rest of staff who were trying their best while just one staff was behaving that way :)

Chic design and spotlessly clean. Spacious room with a lovely view. Breakfast was very good.

Open plan bathroom! Not ideal when staying in a twin room with my 20 year old son. We both would have preferred more privacy when showering. A system is required when ordering the hot breakfast option from the table. The waitress ignored us and took other guests’ orders first even though they were seated after us. When I asked if she could take our order her she was a bit rude. Continued to take other tables orders and then came to us with a “right, what do you want then”. A little customer service training would make all the difference. Shame as otherwise the breakfast was very good.

Superb service, attention to detail everywhere - bar team, reception etc. I was thinking this is the best hotel for value and service I’ve stayed in for years! And I’ve stayed in plenty! The thing that made it not a 10/10 (and a 9 is not bad as I’m hard to please) is being woken up an hour before my alarm goes off after a 70 hour week by discovering that my room is opposite a housekeeping cupboard which with the installation of a soft close hinge/closer would not be and issue but I am not over exaggerating when I say that door was opened and slammed perhaps 30-40 times per minute until I had to put my headphones on and get ready and leave.

Loved the unique layout of the room. It was immaculate, completely clean. The best shower I've ever had. The choice of TV Channels that includes Sky Sports, especially on a darts night was a very pleasant surprise (and something that won me over to come back here again in the future) Very spacious. Curtains that actually block out light. It was so quiet during the night, we did not hear outside or any other rooms or people walking past the door. The bed was massive and very comfortable. The check in and check out was pretty smooth. The service at the bar was superb. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to York, and I would go back certainly.

Very hard to think of anything to dislike. Only some petty things. The sideboard area seemed too dark. No sink within the same room as the toilet, so unwashed hands are touching the toilet door. No real place to place towels or clothes when in shower or out of. The light switch system was confusing. Not enough room in wardrobe to hang long coats. Facilities like roof bar, or spa, or gyms, weren't mentioned at check in. I can imagine that the very open bathroom layout and glass window in shower could be a problem for people who aren't comfortable being naked in front of each other. But that's all. Everything was brilliant.
