Stunning hotel, beautiful rooms, gorgeous communal areas and lovely restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful.
Parking prices far too high for paying hotel guests. Lack of TV choices/channels for an otherwise luxurious hotel - expected options such as Netflix, streaming services etc. Very little coffee/tea/milk/biscuits etc in bedroom for what I’d expected for the price and for what otherwise seems a luxurious hotel. I was planning to order room service but no menu in room.

Comfortable hotel - we took advantage of a £20 upgrade to Junior Suite with Minster view which was great. Swimming Pool was good though a little cold and steam room was out of order....
Breakfast was disappointing. We arrived at the time suggested to us on a poster by the lifts when it was due to be less busy. It was very busy and most choices had gone and were not replaced. We had to look for cutlery which staff were slow to provide. Coffee was stewed and there were hardly any pastries left. Breakfast was our only grumble in an otherwise lovely hotel - needs attention. Perfect location lovely hotel staff v nice Christmas trees going up looked beautiful Location good for everything and Christmas market 10 mins walk Room clean, bathroom warm and clean
Standard room was very small and only a tiny wardrobe with not much room as fridge safe and ironing board in there. Need a set of drawers. AC doesn't get very warm more of a cool breeze, radiator doesn't work. Lighting is dull in the room. Bathroom ok. Would stay again but check room size. Reception area leads to foyer and seating which in November is quite cold and needs to shut more internal doors. Bar nice atmosphere.

The property location is great. A 10 minute walk into the main town. Also super convenient for the train station. The building is grand and has a sense of luxury in the main areas. Our room was comfortable and the bed was lovely.
The room we stayed in could have benefited from a lick of paint as there were paint chips and flaky walls in the bathroom so not much to fix but shame it’s not prioritised. The Peachy bar area was dirty, spilt drinks on tables, leaking roof and generally grubby. There were no nice areas to drink and relax. The breakfast was ok, understaffed and again un clean. The tables were not cleared away for a long period of time and the food was not refilled quickly enough. Shame. I would avoid Peachy’s and the breakfast. Go out and about.

Excellent location and parking available on site. Nice bar area. Staff very friendly Had a meal in restaurant one night which was lovely.
We enjoyed our stay, only things to comment on was the breakfast, It was great and tasty but a little messy. Had to ask for glasses for juice, butter and bread for toast. As these had ran out. For the price paid would have expected this to all have checked by staff more frequently. Chairs in bedroom were stained as were some in the lobby area which I didn’t want to use. Again as a luxury hotel I would have expected these to be immaculate.

The hotel was beautiful and the decor was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. My room had a wonderful view of york minster. The staff were all friendly and always saying hello. I arrived to early to check in but the hotel stored my luggage so I could go off and explore York. They also kept my baggage on my departure day too as my train was not till late afternoon. I did not have the breakfast as I am not a breakfast person, I did however have a meal in the hotel. Again the staff in there were fantastic and I didn't feel rushed. Exceptional service and a wonderful place to stay. I will definitely stay there again. Thank you to all the staff for making my visit such a wonderful time. It's a great location to get into the city about a 5 minute walk. Also the tour bus stops right outside the hotel and there are lots of buses to get on if you want to go exploring.

Beautiful room with a great view very quiet
We booked for Dinner B & B, and expected a beautiful dining room and an exceptional dinner considering the cost. The Dinner was well below average as in the Squid was not fresh (very chewy) the brisket was full of fat and the cheesecake was frozen i would expect this at a hungry horse cheap pub meal not in a lovely exclusive hotel like this !!!!! Also i emailed ahead and asked if they could make our stay extra special as it was an anniversary (Nothing at all not even an acknowledgement) really poor would have expected better.

The location was perfect for us and the hotel was beautifully decorated and furnished, every member of staff we came across was fantastic - polite, helpful, friendly. The very large bed was amazing! Breakfast was delicious and always being refilled.
The bedside light in our room was hanging by the cord rather than the actual fixing, looks like a repair had tried to be done but not very successful!! Lots of smeary glass all through the hotel in light fittings which took away from the beauty of them, get some white vinegar on them and get them buffed up and they will look so much better, giving the wow factor they should, same for the shower screens and mirrors ( there was a hand print on our shower screen along side the smears)

We went for Christmas, Monday to Friday - not the Christmas package, but some parts of it. We booked a room with 'a view', which turned out to be a splendid sight of York Minster. We pre-ordered Xmas eve and boxing day meals, which worked very well. The hotel was quite full but never overcrowded. The staff were great and always helpful. The hotel is next to the station so arriving by train was easy. We didn't hear any noise from the trains, York was a lovely city to visit - the Minster, walks on the walls and a trip on the bus to Pickering.
It surprised us that some families took young children to a hotel for Christmas instead of being at home where they could do as they pleased without affecting other people's enjoyment of the occasion.

excellent location. Very surprised how quiet the bedroom was considering our room overlooked the train station. No noise from other guests or road. No noise from fridge either which can be a problem. Excellent black out curtains. Good quality facilities in room like iron and hairdryer. Heating control in room easy to alter and quick to kick into action once changed. Bedding and particularly the pillows very comfortable. Enjoyed the pool etc Breakfast great , particularly the scrambled eggs. Check in and out efficient and friendly. Staff we passed in all areas of hotel made eye contact and greeted us warmly.
was slightly disappointed with size of room. Old sash windows could do with a re furb but is expected in such an old building. breakfast jams served from one large rather than individual glass pots seemed a little unusual. Having to vacate the side bar lounge at 10pm even though 3 tables were occupied. Parking was expensive but once parked up we left the car there all weekend so as not to loose a space and travelled very easily by bus when needed.
